CES 2025: Robot Vacuums Get Mechanical Arms—What the Saros Z70 Can Actually Do

The Saros Z70 turned CES 2025’s robot-vacuum arm demo into a real product. Here is what it can move, where it falls short, and who should buy it.

Robot vacuums with mechanical arms are no longer just science-fiction concepts. The main CES 2025 example, Roborock’s Saros Z70, became a commercial product in January 2025. Its foldable five-axis OmniGrip arm can identify and move selected lightweight objects before cleaning—but it is not a general-purpose robot servant.

The crucial limitation is weight: Roborock specifies a 300-gram safety threshold. The arm is best understood as an automated floor-clearing tool, not a replacement for tidying.

The robot vacuum that reaches out and grabs things

At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Roborock unveiled the Saros Z70, a robot vacuum and mop equipped with a retractable mechanical arm called OmniGrip. Roborock describes it as a five-axis arm integrated into a robot only 7.98 cm (3.14 inches) tall.

When it is not in use, the arm folds into the robot. During a cleaning run, the machine can identify certain objects, plan a movement, grip an item, and relocate it so the previously blocked floor can be cleaned.

That makes the Z70 different from ordinary robot vacuums, which generally avoid socks, cables, toys, and other obstacles. Avoiding an object leaves part of the floor dirty; manipulating it attempts to remove the obstruction.

Short version

  • Yes, the technology is real: the Saros Z70 was launched as a mass-produced product, not left as a CES concept.
  • It moves selected lightweight objects: examples include socks, tissues, and small footwear.
  • It has a 300-gram safety threshold: many shoes, toys, bottles, and household objects are too heavy.
  • It relies on software: recognition categories, app settings, destinations, and updates determine what it can attempt.
  • It is not a universal tidying robot: buyers should still expect to clear cables, fragile items, hazardous debris, and heavier clutter.

How the OmniGrip arm works

Roborock says the Z70 can spot supported objects during an initial pass, mark them, and return later to move them. The robot can then clean the area that was previously obstructed. Users can designate places where objects should be deposited—for example, moving a sock toward a closet or a sandal toward an entrance rug.

The company lists recognition support for 108 pre-programmed objects. It also says users can define up to 50 additional objects through the Roborock app, subject to software support and configuration. The arm can be manually controlled in the app, and its built-in weight sensor is intended to prevent lifting beyond the stated threshold.

These are specific recognition and manipulation behaviors, not general household intelligence. “Recognizes 108 objects” does not mean the robot understands every object in a room or can safely judge every possible use.

What can it pick up?

Object What to expect
Tissue A demonstrated type of lightweight object, provided it is accessible and recognized.
Sock A practical target for reducing floor clutter, but position and grip still matter.
Lightweight sandal Possible only when its weight, shape, and location are within the arm’s operating limits.
Heavy shoe or boot Likely outside the 300-gram threshold.
Cable A poor target because it may snag, remain trapped, or create a safety problem.
Fragile object Should not be treated as a suitable target merely because it is lightweight.
Pet waste or contaminated debris A hygiene and recognition concern; the arm should not be treated as a safe solution for these materials.

The 300-gram limit is the most important qualification. It excludes many ordinary household items, including heavier footwear, full drink containers, and some toys. Even a light object may be impossible to move if it is wedged under furniture, partly trapped, too close to another item, or positioned beyond the gripper’s reach.

Why put an arm on a vacuum?

Robot vacuums have largely solved autonomous navigation, but they still depend on a prepared floor. A sock can be avoided, a cable can cause a tangle, and a toy can leave a patch of floor untouched. The owner must usually perform the final preparation step.

The Z70’s arm attacks that bottleneck. Its practical purpose is not to perform household chores broadly; it is to reduce the amount of lightweight clutter that must be moved before vacuuming and mopping begin.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That could be useful in homes where socks and tissues regularly interrupt cleaning, in children’s rooms with small lightweight items, or for owners who want to start a cleaning cycle without first clearing every visible object.

Why the arm may still feel like a gimmick

The feature is impressive, but its usefulness depends heavily on the home.

  • Limited strength: 300 grams is enough for some small objects, not for arbitrary household clutter.
  • Limited access: an item must be exposed and positioned where the gripper can reach it.
  • Recognition errors: identifying an object category does not guarantee that it is safe to move.
  • App dependence: custom objects, destinations, and some recognition behavior require setup and supported software.
  • Hygiene questions: users may not want one gripper handling clothing, food remnants, bathroom debris, or pet-related materials.
  • More mechanical complexity: a five-axis arm introduces additional joints, sensors, and mechanisms that could require maintenance or repair.
  • Safety concerns: Roborock says the arm has an emergency pause button, child lock, weight sensor, and default-disabled behavior. Those features do not make unsupervised interaction by children or pets advisable.

What “AI” means in this product

In this context, AI refers mainly to perception and planning functions: recognizing supported objects, labeling them, navigating around furniture, selecting a movement path, and placing objects at configured destinations.

Because the system uses cameras or other perception sensors, privacy is another reasonable buying question. Before purchase, check the current privacy documentation for information about local processing, uploaded images, app data collection, retention, and whether recognition features can be disabled. Those policies can change and should not be assumed.

What about Dreame and the other CES demonstrations?

CES 2025 included a broader wave of experimentation around robots that manipulate their surroundings. However, not every arm-equipped demonstration represented a retail product.

Dreame’s first-party CES announcement confirmed the X50 Ultra, including U.S. availability from February 14, 2025, but it does not clearly establish a commercially available arm-equipped Dreame vacuum. It is more accurate to describe competitor arm demonstrations as prototypes or development concepts unless a manufacturer confirms a shipping product.

The Z70 is different. Roborock says it was the first mass-produced robot vacuum with a foldable five-axis arm, and its U.S. store listing confirms that it became a product offered for sale. “First” remains Roborock’s claim rather than an independently audited industry title, but calling the Z70 only a prototype is inaccurate.

Z70 versus conventional premium robot vacuums

Roborock showed the Z70 alongside the Saros 10 and Saros 10R. The Saros 10R represents the more conventional premium approach: advanced cleaning and navigation without the headline object-grasping arm.

Dreame’s X50 Ultra is another relevant alternative for buyers interested in high-end automated cleaning rather than manipulation. Its CES-announced U.S. launch price was $1,699.99, though that was a launch price rather than a current 2026 price.

These products should not be judged by suction numbers alone. Roborock lists 22,000 Pa HyperForce suction for the Z70, but manufacturer Pa ratings are not a complete or directly comparable measure of real-world cleaning performance.

Who should buy the Saros Z70?

Choose the Z70 if the arm is the reason you are shopping, your home regularly has lightweight floor clutter, and you are comfortable with app configuration and occasional supervision. It makes the most sense for early adopters who value novel automation and are willing to accept first-generation limitations.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose a conventional premium robot vacuum if your priority is dependable vacuuming and mopping, lower complexity, mature navigation, or better value. If you already clear the floor before every cleaning run, the arm may eliminate little manual work.

Questions to ask before buying

  1. How often do socks, tissues, or small toys actually stop your current robot?
  2. Are those objects usually below 300 grams?
  3. Are they exposed enough for a small gripper to reach?
  4. Are you willing to configure destinations and object categories in an app?
  5. Is the arm worth the price difference over a premium model without one?
  6. What service, replacement-part, and warranty support is available in your country?
  7. Have you considered privacy, hygiene, child-safety, and pet-safety implications?

Current product status and price

As checked on August 18, 2026, the Saros Z70 was listed on Roborock’s U.S. store. Captured official pages showed prices ranging from approximately $999.99 to $1,299.99, with a former price around $2,599. Because store pricing and promotions varied, those figures should be treated as time-sensitive rather than a permanent MSRP. The U.S. product page also stated a one-year limited warranty and free returns within 30 days of delivery; verify the terms at purchase.

Ownership costs also include dust bags, cleaning solution, mop cloths, filters, brushes, and possible replacement parts. A lower sale price does not remove those recurring costs or the potential complexity of servicing a mechanical arm.

The verdict

Robot vacuums with arms are real, but the useful development is narrower than the CES spectacle suggests. The Saros Z70 can move selected lightweight objects and clear some obstacles before cleaning, yet its 300-gram threshold, software dependence, limited reach, safety concerns, and added complexity prevent it from becoming a universal household helper.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For buyers who want the best cleaning value, a conventional premium robot vacuum is likely the safer choice. For early adopters with frequent lightweight clutter, the Z70 is a legitimate—and unusually ambitious—attempt to remove the last manual step in autonomous floor cleaning.
