Usually, no—not directly. Kobalt’s published guidance supports using Kobalt 24V batteries with Kobalt 24V tools. It does not establish that a Kobalt battery will fit or safely operate a tool from another brand, even when both products carry a 24V label. A third-party adapter may exist for a particular battery-and-tool pairing, but compatibility and safety must be confirmed for those exact models and by that adapter’s manufacturer.
Do not force a battery into a tool, modify terminals, or treat a Kobalt accessory adapter as proof of cross-brand compatibility. First identify the battery, tool, voltage platform, connector and any adapter documentation.

What Kobalt’s published guidance actually confirms
The clearest official statement concerns one battery family and one tool family. In a Lowe’s product Q&A answer dated March 10, 2021, the Kobalt Team wrote:

That answer is limited to Kobalt 24V batteries and Kobalt 24V tools. It does not say that Kobalt 24V batteries work with another manufacturer’s 24V tools. A customer question about whether a Kobalt 24V battery would interchange with an XTR 24V tool prompted the answer, but the answer still describes compatibility inside the Kobalt 24V system rather than approving an XTR or any other outside platform.
Accordingly, the defensible answer to “Can I put my Kobalt battery on another brand’s tool?” is: direct compatibility has not been established by the cited Kobalt or Lowe’s guidance. Treat the battery and tool as incompatible unless the tool maker, battery maker or a documented adapter manufacturer specifically supports the exact combination.
Why the same voltage label does not prove compatibility
“24V” identifies a nominal voltage class, not a universal mechanical or electrical standard. Two products can display 24V and still use different rails, contact layouts, locking features, protection requirements or control arrangements. A pack that slides into a tool is not automatically a pack that the tool is designed to use.

Kobalt’s own answers show why platform labels must be read precisely:
- A Kobalt Team answer dated May 16, 2023 says Kobalt 20V and 24V batteries are not interchangeable.
- A Kobalt Team answer dated May 24, 2023 says Kobalt 24V and 40V batteries are not interchangeable; each is intended for matching-voltage Kobalt tools and chargers.
Those statements concern Kobalt products, but they are an important warning against using voltage as the only test. “24V” on a battery and “24V” on a tool is a starting point for investigation, not a compatibility guarantee.
Three different things people call a battery adapter
A Kobalt-to-Kobalt accessory adapter
Lowe’s lists the Kobalt KCA 1024-06 24V battery adapter for Kobalt 24V and 24VX2 tools. Its listed brand and model compatibility is Kobalt 24V. The operating manual cited with that product warns: Only use Kobalt 24V batteries with the product.
It also says that if the battery does not fit easily into the adapter, it may not be installed correctly and could damage the battery and/or product.

This is an accessory within the Kobalt ecosystem. It should not be presented as a bridge from Kobalt batteries to another brand’s tool.
A USB power-source adapter
Lowe’s also lists a Kobalt 24V MAX Power Source Adapter for charging USB devices from a Kobalt battery. The listing says that item is no longer sold on Lowes.com. It is a power source for USB devices, not evidence that a Kobalt battery can run another manufacturer’s drill, saw, light or other tool.
A third-party cross-brand tool adapter
Some independent manufacturers may make adapters intended to let one battery platform supply another brand’s tool. The existence of an adapter, a marketplace photograph or a claim that two platforms are “compatible” does not establish that a particular combination is supported. The adapter must be documented for the exact battery model and exact tool model, with instructions that address installation, operating limits and battery protection.

No specific Kobalt-to-other-brand adapter was verified in the cited material, and no adapter was tested. Do not infer approval by Kobalt or Lowe’s from an adapter listing alone.
How to check a proposed battery-and-tool pairing
Use this process before connecting anything, especially on a construction site where a failed tool can create downtime or a damaged pack can become a safety problem.
- Record the exact battery model. Photograph the label and write down the platform designation, such as Kobalt 24V, plus the model number and any capacity marking. Do not rely on the color or the wording “MAX” alone.
- Record the exact tool model. Read the tool label, manual and manufacturer’s compatibility list. “Another brand’s 24V tool” is not specific enough; the model number matters.
- Confirm the voltage platform. Separate Kobalt 20V, 24V and 40V systems. Kobalt’s published answers say 20V and 24V are not interchangeable and 24V and 40V are not interchangeable.
- Inspect the interface without forcing it. Compare the rails, latch, keying and contact arrangement. If the battery does not slide in easily and lock as designed, stop. The KCA 1024-06 manual specifically warns that a battery that does not fit easily may be installed incorrectly and could damage the battery or product.
- Find model-specific adapter documentation. The document should name the battery model or platform and the tool model or tool family. A generic statement such as “works with 24V batteries” is not enough.
- Check protection requirements. Look for the adapter maker’s instructions on battery protection, low-voltage cutoff, current limits, temperature monitoring and charging. If the instructions do not explain how the combination is protected, you do not have enough evidence to use it.
- Check charging instructions separately. A tool adapter does not automatically make a charger compatible. Use the charger specified for the battery platform unless the battery maker explicitly documents another method.
- Review warranty and responsibility. Determine whether the tool, battery or adapter maker excludes damage caused by third-party batteries or adapters. Keep the instructions and purchase record for the exact adapter.
- Do a no-load check only when documentation permits it. If the adapter is documented for the exact pairing, install the battery with the tool switched off, verify the latch, and follow the adapter maker’s startup procedure. Stop immediately for heat, odor, arcing, unexpected movement or error indications.

What can go wrong when compatibility is assumed
The battery will not seat or lock
Stop rather than shaving plastic, bending contacts or holding the pack in place by hand. A poor fit can leave contacts partially engaged, allow movement during operation or damage the housing. The cited Kobalt adapter manual treats an effortless, correct fit as an installation requirement.

The tool powers on but behaves abnormally
Unexpected stops, flashing indicators, weak output or immediate shutdown are reasons to disconnect the battery. They do not prove that the tool is safe to keep using. Record the battery and tool models and ask the adapter maker or tool maker for a model-specific answer.
The pack or adapter becomes hot, smells unusual or shows damage
Turn the tool off, remove the battery only if it can be done safely, and place the equipment out of service. Do not continue testing a pack that is swelling, leaking, smoking or showing melted plastic. Follow the battery maker’s damaged-pack and disposal instructions.
The charger accepts the battery but the tool does not
Charging and tool operation are separate compatibility questions. A charger connection cannot be used as proof that a battery is suitable for a different tool brand, and a tool adapter cannot be assumed to authorize charging through that adapter.
When buying a replacement or spare
If your tool is a Kobalt 24V model, a Kobalt 24V replacement or spare battery is the most directly supported choice in the cited information. Confirm the particular tool and battery interface before purchase, because the broad 24V statement still assumes Kobalt 24V products.
If your tool belongs to another brand, start with that brand’s approved battery list. A Kobalt pack should be considered only if the tool maker or a documented adapter maker names the exact battery and tool models. Do not buy on the basis of a shared voltage number, a similar-looking rail or a seller’s unsupported compatibility claim.
A practical decision rule for the jobsite
- Both products are Kobalt 24V: the cited Kobalt Team statement supports compatibility, subject to checking the exact product instructions.
- The products are Kobalt 20V and Kobalt 24V, or Kobalt 24V and 40V: do not interchange them; Kobalt’s published answers say these platforms are not interchangeable.
- The tool is another brand: assume no direct compatibility unless exact model-specific documentation says otherwise.
- An adapter is involved: verify the battery model, tool model, voltage, fit, protection instructions and warranty before use. A Kobalt accessory adapter or USB power source is not automatically a cross-brand tool adapter.
The safest conclusion is narrow but useful: Kobalt’s published support covers the Kobalt 24V tool system. It does not authorize putting a Kobalt battery on another brand’s tool. Without exact, credible documentation for the proposed pairing, use the battery platform approved for that tool.
