The DCR025 manual describes USB charging at up to 2.1 amps. The DCR028B manual describes charging an audio device or phone at up to 2 amps. These are charging-current figures, not a promise of USB Power Delivery or fast charging.

Can you play music from a USB flash drive?
For the DCR025, DCR028B and DCR010, the answer is not according to the available official documentation. Their listed audio sources are Bluetooth, auxiliary input and, for the DCR028B, AM/FM radio. Their USB features are described as charging functions.
A flash drive may receive power when connected, but the radio still needs USB media hardware, supported file formats, a USB source mode and controls for browsing files. Those features are not documented for these models. Reformatting the drive, renaming MP3 files or changing bit rates is therefore unlikely to solve the problem.
A USB-to-3.5-mm cable or USB-to-headphone adapter is not a guaranteed workaround. The radio must support the relevant USB audio protocol, and the adapter must actively convert the signal. A simple cable normally cannot make a charging port decode music.

How to play music over Bluetooth
- Turn on the DEWALT radio or speaker.
- Keep the phone close during first pairing. The DCR025 manual specifies approximately 1 metre (3.3 feet) for pairing.
- Press the Bluetooth button on the DEWALT unit to enter pairing mode.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth on the phone and turn Bluetooth on.
- Select the DEWALT device when it appears.
- Wait for pairing to complete. On the DCR025, the Bluetooth indicator becomes solid when the connection is established.
- Open a music, podcast or audio app and start playback.
- If necessary, open the phone’s audio-output selector and choose the DEWALT unit.
Some DCR025 playback controls may work through AVRCP, including play/pause and track navigation. Actual behavior depends on the phone, operating system and music app; do not assume every app will support every button.
Bluetooth range in a jobsite
DEWALT lists Bluetooth connectivity of up to 100 feet, but the manuals qualify this. Approximately 30 feet (9 metres) line of sight is the optimum streaming range; up to 100 feet (30 metres) may be possible in favorable conditions. Walls, metal framing, machinery and competing wireless devices can reduce the range substantially. A 100-foot connection should not be treated as a jobsite guarantee.
How to use the 3.5-mm auxiliary input
- Connect the phone, MP3 player, laptop or other source to the radio’s 3.5-mm (1/8-inch) auxiliary input.
- Select the auxiliary mode if your model requires it.
- Start playback on the source device.
- Set the source volume to a moderate level, then adjust the radio volume.
- Keep the cable away from walkways, rotating equipment and sharp edges.
This is often the most predictable option when Bluetooth pairing is unreliable or when several people use the same radio. Newer phones may require a USB-C-to-3.5-mm adapter with its own digital-to-analog conversion; compatibility depends on the phone and adapter.

Can the radio charge a phone while music plays?
Yes, the reviewed manuals document USB charging while the units operate from AC power or a compatible battery pack. This works particularly well with Bluetooth: the phone can stream wirelessly while connected to the radio’s USB charging port.

- Actual charging speed depends on the phone, cable, battery level and charging protocol.
- A standard USB port may not provide USB-PD or a manufacturer’s proprietary fast-charge mode.
- Charging a phone consumes additional energy and can reduce runtime when the radio is running from a battery pack.
If charging stops, follow the applicable model manual. Battery depletion, protection circuitry, a damaged cable or a device requiring a different charging protocol can all be involved.
Troubleshooting decision guide
The phone cannot find the DEWALT unit
- Toggle Bluetooth off and on again on the phone.
- Move the phone close to the radio.
- Confirm the radio is in pairing mode, not merely switched on.
- Disconnect another phone that may already be connected.
- Forget the DEWALT device in the phone’s Bluetooth list, then pair again.
- Restart both devices.
- Repeat the model-specific pairing procedure in the manual.
On the DCR025, the Bluetooth indicator flashes during pairing and changes state after pairing or when the pairing window expires.

The radio pairs but produces no sound
- Raise both the phone’s media volume and the radio volume.
- Check that audio is not routed to earbuds, a vehicle or another Bluetooth device.
- Make sure the music app is not paused.
- Set the radio to Bluetooth mode rather than AM/FM or auxiliary mode.
- Move closer to eliminate distance and obstruction problems.
- Check whether another previously paired phone has taken the connection.
Bluetooth keeps disconnecting
Reduce the distance, remove obstructions and move away from sources of wireless interference. Also check phone battery-saving settings and automatic audio-output switching. If the Bluetooth connection is lost and the unit remains inactive for about an hour, the DCR025 and DCR028B manuals describe automatic shutdown behavior.
Use the auxiliary input when uninterrupted playback matters more than wireless convenience.
The USB flash drive is ignored
This is expected if the port is charging-only. The radio may power the drive without recognizing its files. Use Bluetooth or the auxiliary input instead. If direct thumb-drive playback is essential, choose a separate speaker or radio that explicitly lists USB media playback, supported file formats and file-navigation controls.

The phone will not charge
- Try another cable and inspect both connectors.
- Confirm the radio is on and its battery has sufficient charge.
- Check whether the phone needs a fast-charge protocol the radio does not provide.
- Inspect the USB port for dirt or damage.
- Disconnect other loads and test again.
