Sometimes—but only if the soundbar’s manufacturer approves that orientation and the compatible mount is designed for it. Sonos documents an inverted below-TV installation for Playbar; that example is not a general rule for other soundbars. Check your exact model’s manual and wall-mount instructions before drilling or attaching hardware.
Why the answer depends on the soundbar
Soundbars do not share a universal mounting orientation. A model’s controls, connection panel, mounting points and manufacturer instructions can all affect how it should be installed. A bracket that appears to fit—or a successful installation on another model—does not establish that your soundbar can safely or correctly be mounted upside down.
Start with the exact model number, then consult its current official manual and the instructions for the compatible mount. Confirm the approved orientation for your intended position above or below the TV, as well as required clearances and attachment details.
What manufacturer examples show
Sonos Playbar
Sonos’s Playbar wall-mount guidance illustrates the bar below a TV in an inverted position and above a TV with the logo upright. It also says: “When wall-mounted, the side with the Sonos logo, power, optical, and Ethernet port should be facing away from the TV.” That is model- and placement-specific guidance, not approval to invert other soundbars. For Playbar, Sonos specifies at least 1 inch (25 mm) between the bar and TV when the bar is below it, at least 2 inches (50 mm) when it is above, and 1 foot (30 cm) at each end from a wall or other obstruction. These are Playbar measurements, not general soundbar clearances. See the Playbar placement instructions.
Sonos Arc SL
Arc SL guidance says the touch controls should face up, recommends the custom-designed Arc wall mount, and specifies at least 4 inches (102 mm) between the soundbar and TV. Follow that model’s wall-mount instructions rather than assuming Playbar’s inverted example applies. Read Sonos’s Arc SL setup guidance.

Sonos Beam Gen 2
Sonos recommends its custom-designed Beam wall mount. For placement on a stand, the guide says to position Beam horizontally—not vertically or on its side—and keep its touch controls facing up. That stand-placement direction alone does not settle every possible wall-mount orientation; use the Beam wall-mount instructions for a wall installation. Read Sonos’s Beam setup guidance.
Bose Solo II and Samsung soundbars
Bose’s Solo II owner guide says the soundbar can be wall-mounted, directs owners to follow the supplied installation instructions and cautions against using other hardware. Samsung Australia publishes wall-mount instructions that include aligning a template and attaching the soundbar to wall-mount brackets. Neither example establishes a universal upside-down policy for those brands: check the instructions for your precise model. Check these details before mounting
- Exact model and approved hardware: Confirm that the mount is intended for your soundbar and that its mounting points, dimensions and weight rating match the manufacturer’s requirements. A generic bracket listing is not proof of compatibility.
- Orientation and position: Verify whether the soundbar may be inverted in the planned above- or below-TV position. Check control access and the direction of the connection panel.
- Clearance: Use the exact model’s specified spacing from the TV, walls and other obstructions; do not substitute another model’s measurements.
- Wall and fasteners: Follow the soundbar and bracket instructions for the wall material and required fasteners. Ensure the attachment is secure before placing the soundbar on it.
- Cables: Check that power and signal connections remain reachable and that the chosen orientation will not bend, trap or strain cables.
How to decide for your installation
- Find the model number on the soundbar or its documentation.
- Open that model’s official manual and locate its wall-mount instructions. Check orientation, mounting points and clearances for the intended position.
- Confirm the bracket is approved or explicitly compatible with that model, and follow its instructions for your wall and fasteners.
- If the manual does not clearly allow the intended inverted orientation, do not infer approval from a bracket’s shape or another model’s installation. Contact the manufacturer or use a documented orientation.
