1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWyze’s Palm Lock can unlock a compatible deadbolt when it recognizes your palm, but it does not make a physical key obsolete: it also supports access codes, app control, integrations and a physical key. Its “biometric” feature reads palm-vein patterns at close range, not fingerprints. Door fit, backup entry and manufacturer-only performance claims are important to weigh before treating it as a key replacement.
What “biometric” means on Wyze Palm Lock
Wyze describes Palm Lock as using contactless palm-vein recognition. To unlock, hold an open palm about 3–7 inches from the screen while it scans. Enrollment can take up to 30 seconds, according to Wyze’s palm setup instructions. This is different from a fingerprint reader: the lock scans the palm rather than asking you to touch a sensor with a finger.

Wyze’s product introduction calls it “The key is the palm of your hand.” In practical terms, palm recognition is one of several entry methods, not the only way into the house.

Wyze lists four alternatives to palm recognition: access codes entered on the keypad, control through the app, integrations, and a physical key. That mix matters if a scan fails, a user has not enrolled a palm, or someone needs access without a smartphone. See Wyze’s unlock instructions for its supported methods.
#1 Best Overall
- Contactless Palm Vein Recognition — Wyze Palm Lock uses a highly secure biometric technology that reads the unique vein pattern beneath your palm. Simply hover your hand to unlock—no touch needed. Faster and more reliable than fingerprints.
- Dual-Battery System with Emergency Charging — A 6-month main battery is backed by a 2-week secondary battery. If both drain, use the integrated USB-C port and any power bank for an emergency charge—ensuring you're never locked out.
- Peace of Mind with Auto Lock — A built-in gyroscope detects the angle and movement of the door in real time. Once it senses the door has closed then it automatically locks, preventing false or jammed locks.
- Secure & Shareable Access Codes — Create up to 50 unique or one-time guest codes on the illuminated keypad. Our Anti-Peep Technology keeps every code secure, allowing you to add extra digits before or after your real PIN to prevent snooping.
- Smart Battery Saver — Wyze Palm Lock is equipped with millimeter wave radar, the same used in self-driving cars. It scans for the presence of a person (not just movement) and only “wakes up” the lock when a person is detected.
Wyze says the lock can automatically lock after the door closes. Automatic locking is useful for avoiding an unlocked door, but it is separate from how a person unlocks it; check the lock’s settings and make sure the door closes and latches correctly after installation.
Privacy and security: what Wyze says, and what is established
Wyze says enrolled palm scans are encrypted and stored locally on the lock, where Wyze cannot access them. The company states that a device can hold up to 50 registered palms. Wyze also says access codes are encrypted and stored locally, that it cannot access the codes or access history, and that a device can hold up to 50 codes. These are Wyze’s stated practices, described in its palm setup and access-code setup documentation; no independent security audit of the biometric system is established here.

Palm Lock is a deadbolt replacement, so compatibility depends on the existing lock and door—not just the door’s appearance. Wyze says it fits most standard US doors with thickness from 35 mm to 55 mm; its guidance says not to install it on a door thinner than 35 mm. The company flags mortise or integrated lock-and-handle hardware, rim cylinders, Dutch doors and storm doors as compatibility concerns. Some nonstandard installations may need drilling, chiseling or additional tools. Review Wyze’s door-compatibility guidance and measure before purchase.

- Allow for the possibility of extra tools or door modification if the door is nonstandard.
For setup, Wyze’s guide calls for 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi; the app may request Bluetooth and location access during pairing. The official quick-start and installation guide specifies a Phillips-head screwdriver.

Wyze says the removable main battery can last up to six months. A backup battery can keep the lock running for up to two weeks while the main battery charges, and emergency USB-C charging can provide power to enter an access code. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently measured results; actual battery life varies with use and installation conditions. Wyze’s introduction to Palm Lock describes these power features.

Because the lock retains a physical key and keypad entry, a depleted main battery does not mean palm recognition is the sole route in. Keep track of the battery state and understand the backup procedure before relying on the lock for everyday access.

Is Palm Lock a sensible key replacement?
It can reduce the need to carry or hand over a key for routine entry, especially when household members prefer palm recognition or access codes. It is not a key-free system: Wyze explicitly lists a physical key as a backup, alongside keypad, app and integration-based entry. The practical decision hinges on door compatibility, whether the available unlock methods suit everyone who needs access, and whether you are comfortable relying on Wyze’s published privacy and battery claims without an independent biometric-security assessment.
