Two fold-down terraces open the cabin toward vineyard and mountain views, while architect-reported solar-battery power, gas backup, stored water and controlled ventilation support its off-grid setup.
Where Cabin Devín sits
Designed by Ark-Shelter and ARCHEKTA, the cabin is set at the edge of the Zlatý Roh vineyards, about 3 km above ECK restaurant and above Devín Castle. Its outlook crosses the vines toward sunset over the Austrian Alps, according to the architects’ description published by ArchDaily. The project page lists the cabin at 20 m² and dates it to 2024; it credits Martin Mikovčák and Viktor Mikovčák as authors and BoysPlayNice for photography.
Area figures differ across project records. ArchDaily lists 20 m², while archiweb distinguishes 15 m² of area from 20 m² of built-up area. Those are different reported fields, so the figures should not be treated as interchangeable measurements of interior living space.
How the small floor plan opens up
The principal design move is to connect the enclosed room to outdoor space. Fold-down terraces on two sides reveal sliding glass walls, while integrated shading screens the full-height glazing at the front. The architects say the terraces extend the usable space both visually and functionally; they do not add to the enclosed floor-area figure.

Inside, the living area leads to a kitchenette and a bathroom with a shower. New Atlas also reports a dining table and seating, a toilet, and a wood-burning stove for warmth. The loft sleeping area is concealed during the day and reached by a retractable ladder integrated into the cabinetry; a skylight brings daylight into the loft. New Atlas describes the wooden loft ladder as removable.
How the off-grid systems are described
The architects describe photovoltaic panels with battery storage and a gas-powered backup. Hybrid appliances are designed to switch from electric power to gas when battery charge falls below a threshold. The project description does not publish panel output, battery capacity, or measured energy use, so it establishes the system concept rather than a quantified level of energy independence.

Water is managed on site: service water is stored in a reservoir in the raised floor, and wastewater is held in a separate tank. The architects also describe sensor-regulated ventilation and heat recovery, using carbon dioxide and humidity sensors. Their claims of all-season operation and comfort are stated design intent and system descriptions, not independently measured seasonal-performance results.

New Atlas reported on March 22, 2026, that Cabin Devín was offered as a vacation rental with a starting price of €119 per night, citing Cabin Devín. That is a reported starting rate at that time, not confirmation of today’s price or availability. Check directly with the operator for current booking details and any terms that affect the stay. New Atlas also identifies the model as non-towable: it is a fixed vacation dwelling, not a tiny house intended to be moved by road.
