Its target is specified as 41 inches tall, 13 inches wide, with a 48-inch-deep base. Keep its pipe size and fittings together rather than mixing them with a different 1-inch design.
Choose the frame plan and gather materials
This build follows FORMUFIT’s PVC Ladder Golf Game Plan, which lists the dimensions and materials below. FORMUFIT also offers downloadable PDF and SketchUp plans. The page describes the project as easy, low-time, and low-cost; those are the publisher’s descriptions, not independent estimates.

Use fittings sized for the pipe you buy, and check the project plan’s diagram before cutting: the source lists the overall frame dimensions and materials, but not a cut-by-cut pipe schedule in the page details summarized here. Do not assume that a cut list from another design will produce these dimensions.
Why not combine plans?
Dremel publishes a separate 1-inch PVC ladder golf plan. It calls for 30 feet of 1-inch pipe, six 1-inch T-connectors, six 1-inch elbows, and cuts of five 32-inch pieces and ten 17-inch pieces. Those dimensions and fitting counts belong to that plan, not the FORMUFIT frame. The sources do not establish that either design is stronger, cheaper, or easier in practice.

Assemble the PVC target
- Lay out the plan. Open the FORMUFIT diagram or downloadable plan and identify the uprights, rungs, and feet before cutting pipe.
- Measure and cut to that plan. Use a measuring tape and a suitable PVC-cutting method. The specified finished frame is 41 inches high, 13 inches wide, and has a 48-inch-deep base; use the plan’s component layout to determine each segment rather than borrowing Dremel’s cuts.
- Dry-fit the frame. Push together the listed tees, four-way tees, elbows, caps, and pipe in the diagram’s orientation. Confirm the target sits as intended and the base extends in the correct direction before making any permanent connection.
- Finish the joints if desired. The FORMUFIT materials list does not make paint necessary. Krylon’s ladder ball instructions include PVC pipe, connectors, measuring tape, and paint as an alternate finish approach; they state, “All paint should be used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.”
Make the bolas
A documented DIY option uses golf balls connected in pairs by nylon cord. Dremel’s plan specifies 12 golf balls and 12 feet of 1/8-inch nylon cord, arranged as six bola strands. It describes each strand as 21 inches long, with approximately 13 inches between the two balls. Follow that plan’s assembly instructions if using this particular pattern; bola dimensions are design-specific, not a universal standard.
Drilling golf balls is the key tool operation. Dremel’s project instructions describe securing each ball in a Multi-Vise before drilling; the Ladder Golf history page recounts an early method of holding balls by hand but explicitly says that is not recommended. Do not hold a ball in your hand while drilling.

Dremel’s safety warning: “To reduce the risk of injury user must read instruction manuals for all tools used in this project. Wear eye and respiratory protection. Use clamps to support work piece whenever practical.”
Read the manuals for the tools you use, secure the workpiece, and wear appropriate eye and respiratory protection. Dremel names branded tools in its project plan, but the available sources do not establish that those particular brands are required.

Set up and play
The Ladder Golf branded rules provide one playable scoring system. They call for three bolas per player per round and count only bolas still hanging on a rung after everyone has thrown.
- Top rung: 3 points
- Middle rung: 2 points
- Bottom rung: 1 point
Set the official toss line 15 feet from the target. The rules also note that five paces is commonly used and that the line can be closer for children’s games. Players take turns throwing three bolas per round. The first player to reach exactly 21 points wins; if a throw takes a player over 21, that player does not score for that round. These are the branded Ladder Golf rules, not mandatory rules for every backyard variation.

Keep the throwing area clear while anyone is tossing. The cited sources do not establish a universal safety standard for backyard play, so supervise children and set a distance and play area appropriate to the people and space involved.
