BS EN 13279-2:2014 is the UK adoption of a European laboratory standard describing reference test methods for gypsum binders and gypsum plasters covered by EN 13279-1. BSI lists it as Current, Under Review (checked 4 October 2026). It is a test-methods document, not a guide to choosing a plaster product or applying plaster on site.
What BS EN 13279-2:2014 covers
The standard’s scope sentence is: “This European Standard describes the reference test methods for all gypsum binders and gypsum plasters covered by EN 13279-1.” The methods are intended to provide a common reference for testing products within that scope.
The accessible preview exposes part of the standard’s framework, including references to EN 196-1 for strength determination, EN 196-7 for sampling and preparing cement samples, EN 459-2 for building-lime test methods, EN 932-1 for aggregate sampling, and ISO 565 for test-sieve openings. For dated references, the cited edition applies; for undated references, the latest edition, including amendments, applies.
How Part 2 differs from Part 1
| Part | Role in the series | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| EN 13279-1 | Definitions and requirements | Defines the relevant gypsum binders and plasters and sets their requirements. |
| EN 13279-2 | Test methods | Specifies reference methods used to test products covered by Part 1. |
These parts serve complementary purposes; they are not competing standards. Part 1 establishes what products and requirements are in scope, while Part 2 addresses how relevant properties are tested.

Is BS EN 13279-2:2014 still current?
BSI’s catalogue entry lists the UK document as Current, Under Review, with a publication date of 31 January 2014 and committee B/544 as its maintainer. “Under Review” is part of BSI’s stated status; it should not be read as meaning that BSI has already withdrawn or replaced the edition. The previous UK edition, BS EN 13279-2:2004, is marked withdrawn as of 31 January 2014.
The corresponding EN catalogue record from NEN gives 1 January 2014 as the European publication date for EN 13279-2:2014, a final 23-page English publication. That is a different catalogue date from BSI’s UK adoption date.

What conditions does the accessible preview show?
The preview gives a reference atmosphere of (23 ± 2) °C and (50 ± 5) % relative humidity. It also states that the room, equipment, plaster and water are kept at (23 ± 2) °C. These are reference test conditions, not a complete laboratory protocol or a guarantee that results from different laboratories are comparable unless each follows the applicable full procedure.
- Sampling is directed to EN 196-7. For granular material, the preview points to EN 932-1 procedures and says to minimize moisture and carbon-dioxide absorption.
- The stated spot sample is (8 ± 3) kg, with the test sample kept in hermetically sealed containers before testing.
- For chemical analysis, the preview specifies taking a representative (50 ± 5) g sample and grinding it to a particle size of ≤ 0.1 mm.
- Water for reference tests and chemical analysis is distilled or deionised.
These extracts should not be used as a stand-alone operating procedure. The complete standard is needed for the applicable method, apparatus, calculations, precision and reporting requirements.

Where to obtain the full standard
BSI lists the standard for purchase as a digital download or hardcopy. The accessible preview distributed through ANSI Webstore is not the complete standard. Check BSI’s product entry for current availability and purchase details before ordering; the catalogue page is the appropriate place to confirm that you are obtaining BS EN 13279-2:2014 rather than a different edition.
