The announced scope covered the 12-storey tower, an adjoining three-storey building and associated site works. The cleared site is intended for a 109-dwelling development combining social, affordable and specialist disability housing.
What demolition work was announced?
The 2024 appointment covered both buildings and work to prepare the former public housing site for redevelopment. The National Tribune reported that demolition permit approval was required before preparatory activity could begin. The Department of Communities was to lodge the permit application, with City of Vincent feedback informing its conditions. The announcement also identified significant land remediation as necessary to support redevelopment. The National Tribune’s 3 July 2024 announcement described the appointment and scope.
PerthNow reported the contract value as $2.398 million in July 2024. That amount is attributed to PerthNow; the project announcement did not state a value. PerthNow’s 11 July 2024 report is the source for the figure.
What is planned for the site?
The approved development is made up of 109 dwellings. The City of Vincent lists 42 one-bedroom homes and 67 two-bedroom homes, allocated across three categories:

The three categories add up to the total; the planned development should not be described as 109 social housing dwellings. The City of Vincent project page provides the approved breakdown.
In the 2024 announcement, Housing Minister John Carey described the redevelopment as a build-to-rent model combining social, affordable and market rental arrangements, supported by on-site tenancy management. Carey also said the State Government was pursuing large-scale redevelopment projects as part of an urban renewal effort to increase housing supply. These are statements about the government’s plans and rationale, not an independent assessment of future outcomes.

What is the latest reported demolition status?
The City of Vincent’s available project page says demolition was entering its final stages, but work had paused to allow electricity infrastructure to be relocated, with work expected to continue in the coming weeks. That update does not confirm that demolition has since been completed.
The page also records an expectation that construction would start in Q3 2025. That was a forecast, not confirmation that construction began. The available status information therefore establishes neither completed demolition nor a construction start.

Why was this site selected for redevelopment?
Carey said the site was close to Perth’s CBD, shops, public transport, parks, education, sporting and entertainment facilities. This reflects the minister’s description in the 2024 announcement; it is not an independent assessment of access or travel times.
