Perth City Council approved a $1 million heritage adaptive reuse grant in 2025 to support converting Bon Marche Arcade, the historic building at 78–84 Barrack Street associated with Le Vietnam’s former shop, into short-stay accommodation. That is approval and a planned use—not confirmation that construction is complete or that rooms are open or bookable.
What has been approved for Bon Marche Arcade?
PerthNow reported on 16 December 2025 that the council had approved a $1 million grant for 30 iParks Pty Ltd to support the arcade’s conversion to short-stay accommodation. The council decision was made on 9 December 2025. The grant supports a reuse project; it does not establish that the accommodation has opened, that an operator has been appointed, or that bookings are available. PerthNow’s report
The grant program, as described in the report, allows funding of up to 10% of project cost, capped at $1 million per project. Works must be completed within three years, and some grant funding is retained until multiple floors are tenanted or activated. The three-year period is a grant condition, not a published opening date. Grant-program details
Which building is involved?
Bon Marche Arcade is the heritage building at 78–84 Barrack Street. PerthNow identifies it as built in 1901 and designed by architect H. J. Prockter. The project concerns the building associated with Le Vietnam’s former Barrack Street location—not a newly confirmed accommodation venue above the restaurant’s current shop. Broadsheet reported on 31 July 2026 that the team planned to move to Raine Square and intended to keep trading at Barrack Street until the new shop was ready. Its forecast of an early September opening was a forward-looking plan; the later City listing is the evidence for the restaurant’s location in September 2026. Broadsheet’s move report

The reported plan is short-stay accommodation, but the available reports do not name an accommodation operator or specify room count, amenities, a confirmed opening date, or a booking channel. Grant approval and the required works timetable alone cannot confirm when guests might be able to stay.
