When and where is the ACHD candidate forum?
Boise Bicycle Project is hosting an all-ages forum for Ada County Highway District (ACHD) commissioner candidates on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Lost Grove Brewing, 1026 S. LaPointe St. in Boise. The discussion is intended to cover transportation, infrastructure and the community’s future. BoiseDev reports that ACHD seats three and four are up for election and county voters may vote in both races. BoiseDev’s October 10 roundup has the event details.

Is Eckert Road closed, and can I still get to Barber Park?
ACHD says Eckert Road closures and detours may begin as early as Monday, October 12, 2026. Barber Park and its parking are to remain open, with access maintained during construction. ACHD says pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle detours will use routes established during the winter 2025 interim-repair closure. For the reported phase, BoiseDev identifies Parkcenter Boulevard and Bown Way as driver alternatives and says Barber Park can be reached via Boise Avenue from south of the river.

Because traffic controls can change as work proceeds, check ACHD’s Eckert Road Bridge Replacement project update for day-of access and detour details. ACHD says a temporary canal bypass will maintain Barber Park access.
Construction hours and nearby impacts
- ACHD lists weekday work hours as 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekend hours as 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., unless otherwise approved.
- Pile driving is expected between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
- Nearby residents and visitors may hear backup alarms and experience dust and ground vibration.
What work is planned, and in what order?
The project replaces the Boise River and Ridenbaugh Canal bridges. It also adds a multi-use path on the west side of Eckert Road between the Greenbelt and Boise Avenue, a Greenbelt underpass connecting existing and future Greenbelt with the Dallas Harris Legacy Walkway, and updated access to the Barber Park driveway. The bridge work comes first. ACHD says the Boise Avenue/Eckert Road intersection phase will follow after the bridges reopen. The project is accelerated because of the bridges’ age and condition. ACHD says state funds administered by the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council through the Leading Idaho Local Bridge Program fund the Boise River Bridge portion; the City of Boise funds the Greenbelt underpass portion. ACHD’s project update also reports that 183 neighbors attended a construction open house.
When will the Eckert Road bridges reopen?
The project is expected to finish in 2028, but the cited estimates differ on the season: ACHD’s project notice says summer 2028, while BoiseDev’s October 10 roundup says fall 2028. Neither source establishes a specific reopening date for the bridges, so check ACHD’s project update for schedule changes.

The bridge currently in use is the existing structure after interim repairs, not the replacement bridge. It closed in January 2025 after significant structural decay was found, received interim repairs and reopened in March 2025. The Idaho Transportation Department confirmed it was safe for passenger and commercial traffic within legal load limits. ACHD and ITD estimated the interim repairs at $500,000; that figure is not the cost of the replacement project.
