The best tripod sprinkler is the one that matches your water pressure and flow, the area and shape you need to water, and the height of the plants the spray must clear. Claber’s published specifications offer two useful examples: its fixed-height Impact Tripod (code 8709) and adjustable-height Impact Tripod kit (code 8715). Their coverage figures are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results or guarantees for a particular yard.
Which tripod sprinkler should you choose?
Choose by installation and watering needs rather than by the largest advertised coverage figure. The fixed-height Claber Impact Tripod 8709 is a candidate when a steady aluminium stand suits the site. The Claber Impact Tripod kit 8715 is the more relevant option when adjustable stand height is useful for clearing beds or other low plantings. Both are pulsating sprinklers with a listed 0–360° watering angle and a stated operating range of 1–4 bar.
The manufacturer’s pressure-dependent coverage and flow figures are useful for comparing the two models, but actual useful coverage depends on pressure and flow at the sprinkler, layout, wind, and obstructions. Neither product is established here as universally best or independently tested.
Compare the published specifications
| Model | Tripod and materials | Working pressure | Published coverage by pressure | Published flow by pressure |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Claber Impact Tripod, code 8709 | Aluminium tripod; POM nozzle; brass central pin | 1–4 bar | 1 bar: 227 m², 17 m diameter; 2 bar: 346 m², 21 m; 3 bar: 437 m², 23.6 m; 4 bar: 491 m², 25 m | 1 bar: 9.3 L/min; 2 bar: 11.9 L/min; 3 bar: 14.8 L/min; 4 bar: 16.9 L/min |
| Claber Impact Tripod kit, code 8715 | Painted steel tripod; POM nozzle; brass central pin | 1–4 bar | 1 bar: 296 m², 19.4 m diameter; 2 bar: 401 m², 22.6 m; 3 bar: 531 m², 26 m; 4 bar: 572 m², 27 m | 1 bar: 9.3 L/min; 2 bar: 11.9 L/min; 3 bar: 14.8 L/min; 4 bar: 16.9 L/min |
These are the manufacturers’ published figures; they do not establish independently measured performance or a guaranteed watered area on a real lawn. Treat the stated diameter and area as conditional on the listed pressure, and account for site conditions when planning coverage.

Check your water supply before buying
A sprinkler needs both suitable pressure and sufficient flow. A pressure reading alone does not show whether the supply can sustain the model’s stated flow while it is operating. Measure or confirm pressure and flow at the source, then account for losses through the hose, fittings, and other lines so the sprinkler receives the pressure it needs at its installed position.
Compare the result with the model’s operating range and its pressure-specific flow requirement. The figures above are in bar and litres per minute; do not assume that a published maximum area will be achieved if the supply cannot deliver the corresponding conditions. IrrigationKing’s sprinkler buying guide explains pressure, flow, line losses, and matching a sprinkler to conditions at the installation point.

- COVERAGE AREA: Sprinkler for garden hose, the coverage area is about to 20-35 FT in radius. It can be work on low pressure, but the distance of water jet is related to the water pressure. Recommended water pressure is 20-60psi.
- WIDELY USE: Suitable for most commonly US standard 3/4 inch internal thread fittings, fit for a variety of garden hoses. Perfect for agriculture, lawn, garden, patio, greenhouse, flower bed, swimming pool misting fog cooling irrigation and so on.
Match the spray to the yard
Consider the shape of the area as well as its total size. A 0–360° head can water a full circle, but that pattern may also spray paths, walls, or neighboring areas. Aim and adjust the watering angle to limit overspray where the model permits, and check the pattern in place before relying on it for a whole lawn.
For larger areas, one sprinkler may not distribute water evenly from edge to edge. IrrigationKing gives 50–70% of wetted diameter as general spacing guidance for many impact and rotator sprinklers arranged in triangular or rectangular grids. This is layout guidance, not a guaranteed spacing rule for every model or lawn; terrain, wind, pressure, and the sprinkler’s actual pattern matter.

Also consider how quickly the soil absorbs water. If application exceeds the soil’s intake, water can pond or run off before it soaks in. Adjust run time or coverage so water is applied at a rate the soil can accept.
When is a tripod better than a stake-mounted sprinkler?
A tripod can raise the sprinkler head above low plants, shrubs, or garden beds that would otherwise interrupt the spray. That extra height can help direct water over plantings, while an adjustable-height stand offers more flexibility when the required clearance changes.

A stake-mounted sprinkler sits closer to the ground and may suit an unobstructed lawn where elevated spray is unnecessary. The right choice depends on clearance, placement, stability, and the pattern needed—not on the stand style alone. A tripod must have stable footing, particularly on uneven ground or where hoses could pull against it.

- Verify compatibility. Check the sprinkler’s connector and thread against the hose and fittings you intend to use. Tripod stands and heads can use different connection arrangements; do not assume a fitting will match based on appearance.
- Check conditions at the sprinkler. Confirm that pressure and flow remain suitable at the installed location, including losses through the hose and fittings.
- Flush the line before fitting the nozzle. IrrigationKing recommends flushing lines before installing nozzles to reduce the chance that debris reaches and blocks the spray head.
- Inspect the nozzle and pattern. Check for blockage or wear if the spray becomes uneven, and clean or replace parts as appropriate for the model.
- Protect the equipment in freezing weather. Drain and protect above-ground equipment in freezing climates to reduce the risk of cold-weather damage.
A filter or screen, pressure regulator, hose, riser, stand, or fittings may be useful depending on the water source and installation; they are not automatically required for every setup. Follow the sprinkler maker’s connection and operating instructions.

What the available evidence can—and cannot—tell you
The Claber product pages provide specifications for codes 8709 and 8715, including pressure-dependent area, diameter, and flow. They do not establish how either model performs in a particular yard or prove that one is the best tripod sprinkler overall. YardToolLab’s 2026 comparison also says its picks were not personally tested on a lawn, so it should be treated as secondary comparison rather than hands-on performance evidence.
For a practical choice, compare the required pressure and flow with your supply, the watering pattern with the site, and the stand height with nearby plantings. Verify connector compatibility before purchase.
