The Brinly BS-36BH and Agri-Fab 45-0547 are close alternatives, rated at 175 lb and 185 lb respectively. These are manufacturer specifications, not results from a shared independent test, so the right choice depends on your lawn area, material, hitch and tow vehicle—not capacity alone.
Large-capacity tow-behind spreaders compared
The figures below come from the manufacturers’ product information. Spread width and coverage are not directly comparable test results: the sources do not establish common materials, application rates, terrain, speeds or procedures.

The Spyker product page also specifies 15-by-6-inch pneumatic turf tires and a one-year warranty. Brinly lists a two-year warranty and provides parts and accessories resources on its product page. Warranty terms and parts support should be checked with the manufacturer for the exact model and market.
Which spreader suits your lawn?
Spyker SPY200T-1P: prioritize the largest listed load
Choose this model to consider when minimizing refill stops is the main goal and your mower has a compatible rear hitch. Its 200 lb and 3.5 cu ft ratings are the highest documented combination in this shortlist. Spyker describes it for riding lawn and garden tractors and ZTRs, and sets a 5 mph maximum towing speed. Its product page lists a one-year warranty, metal gears and an included cover.

Brinly BS-36BH: prioritize stop-and-go flow control
Brinly’s 175 lb, 3.5 cu ft model is a reasonable match for larger lawns where its Autoflow feature is useful: the manufacturer says it stops material flow when the tractor stops. Brinly describes the spreader for properties of one acre and larger and lists an 8–12 ft spread width and two-year warranty.
Agri-Fab 45-0547: consider its lawn-and-garden configuration
Agri-Fab’s 2024 guide rates the 45-0547 at 185 lb, up to 12 ft spread and approximately 40,000 sq ft coverage. The same guide lists an 185 lb ATV tow spreader as a separate configuration, so verify the model number and hitch style rather than assuming that two products with the same weight rating are interchangeable. The guide also includes a 175 lb drop spreader with a 42-inch controlled spread; that is a different spreading pattern, not another broadcast spreader equivalent.

Choose capacity by both weight and volume
A pound rating alone does not tell you how much of every material the hopper can hold. Material bulk density varies: a hopper’s volume and the load’s weight are separate constraints. Spyker and Brinly both publish weight and volume ratings, while the cited Agri-Fab guide gives a weight rating for the 45-0547. Check the exact model manual and the material label before filling; do not infer an approved load or setting from a different product.
More capacity can mean fewer refill stops, but it does not guarantee even application. The material, spreader setting, travel speed, overlap, terrain and operator all affect coverage. Treat Agri-Fab’s approximately 40,000 sq ft figure as that manufacturer guide’s claim for the 45-0547, not a universal result or a directly comparable test against the other models.

Measure the lawn before deciding
Estimate the area you actually intend to treat rather than relying on the property’s total acreage. Agri-Fab recommends measuring lawn sections and converting square feet to acres by dividing by 43,560. Its guidance covers rectangular, triangular, circular and irregular areas.
- Break an irregular lawn into simple sections and measure each section using the appropriate shape-based method.
- Add the section areas to get the total lawn area to be treated.
- Divide the total square footage by 43,560 to convert it to acres.
Use the area estimate alongside the product’s capacity and the application rate on the material label to judge how often you may need to refill. The available specifications do not establish a shared coverage-per-load figure for these three models.

Check the hitch, tow vehicle and full load
Before buying, confirm that your mower has the required rear hitch plate and that the spreader’s hitch geometry matches it. Spyker identifies riding lawn and garden tractors and ZTR mowers as compatible tow vehicles, but that does not establish fit with every mower. Confirm compatibility for the exact machine and spreader combination.
- Consider the fully loaded implement—not just the empty spreader—and whether it is suitable for your tow vehicle and terrain.
- Check turning room, storage space and access through gates for the spreader’s overall dimensions; consult the model manual for exact measurements.
- Observe the manufacturer’s speed limit. Spyker and Brinly each specify a maximum tow speed of 5 mph.
- Confirm that the manufacturer lists your intended material and follow the exact model’s manual and the material label for settings and use.
Use flow control and settings carefully
Flow shutoff and directional controls can matter at turns, edges and stops. Brinly specifically describes BS-36BH Autoflow as stopping material flow when the tractor stops. That feature is not a promise of perfect edge control or uniform coverage; follow the model manual for operating and adjustment instructions.

Set the spreader using the instructions for the exact model and material. Where appropriate, calibrate on a safe test area before treating the lawn, and follow the material label. Do not exceed the listed towing speed or assume that a setting from another spreader will transfer.
What the specifications can—and cannot—tell you
The manufacturer pages and Agri-Fab’s 2024 guide establish listed capacities, spread widths and described features, but they do not provide a common comparative test. They therefore support a specification-led shortlist, not a claim that one model lasts longer, spreads more evenly or performs better in every yard. Check current product details, warranty terms, parts availability and fit with the manufacturer before purchase.
