Best Soundbars With Built-In or Included Subwoofers

“Built-in subwoofer” can mean bass drivers inside the bar or a separate wireless subwoofer in the box. Here are the best choices for both designs, plus advice on Atmos, dialogue, connections, placement, and setup.

The key distinction is simple: some soundbars put bass drivers inside the bar, while others include a separate wireless subwoofer. An all-in-one soundbar saves floor space and reduces setup, but a separate subwoofer usually delivers deeper, more powerful bass for films, games, and music.

For a true all-in-one system, start with the Sonos Arc Ultra or Bluesound Pulse Cinema. If you want the strongest cinematic bass and can accommodate another powered component, consider the Samsung HW-Q800F, Sony BRAVIA Theatre Bar 6, or a JBL package with detachable rear speakers.

Dialogue-friendly alternative Polk MagniFi Max AX or AX SR Separate subwoofer AX is listed as 3.1.2 and expandable Yes Depends on the exact bundle Check the current model, bundle, and stock carefully

Prices and availability change quickly, particularly for newer model generations. Confirm the exact US model and complete package on the manufacturer’s page before buying. For example, Samsung’s HW-Q800F page has displayed a $1,099.99 reference price while also showing periods of no stock.

What “built-in subwoofer” really means

Retail listings use the phrase loosely. Before comparing products, identify which of these designs you are considering:

#1 Best Overall
ULTIMEA 5.1CH Surround Sound Bar System with Dolby Atmos, Poseidon M60 | VoiceMX, BassMX, APP, 300W Soundbar for Smart TV, Surround Sound System for TV, with Subwoofer, Bluetooth 5.4
  • Simplified 5.1ch Dolby Atmos Setup: Enjoy immersive 4D sound with real Dolby Atmos and 5.1-channel audio. Five built-in speakers, including two side-firing drivers, create wide surround without rear speakers. Precision DSP ensures <0.5 ms latency for smooth, theater-like sound. Setup takes less than 1 minute.
  • Voice Clarity Enhancement: VoiceMX technology uses advanced DSP algorithms to isolate and enhance vocal frequencies in real time. Dialogue remains crisp and easy to follow by separating speech from background effects and music, even at low volumes or during intense scenes.
  • 300W Output with 6-Driver System: Featuring five precision-tuned full-range drivers and a dedicated wired wooden subwoofer, the system delivers up to 300W of peak power for bold, room-filling sound. With a frequency response of 45 Hz–18 kHz and a maximum SPL of 99 dB, it reproduces everything from subtle nuances to explosive cinematic effects.
  • 18 mm High-Excursion Driver: Powered by BassMX technology, the wired wooden subwoofer features a 18 mm high-excursion driver, a 5.3L tuned cabinet, and a high-density magnetic circuit. This design delivers deeper, tighter bass with greater air displacement and enhanced low-frequency performance—bringing more realism to every scene.
  • HDMI eARC for True Dolby Atmos: HDMI eARC supports up to 37 Mbps of bandwidth, unlocking the full potential of lossless Dolby Atmos 5.1-channel audio. Compared to standard ARC, eARC delivers richer surround effects and greater detail. CEC integration allows the TV and soundbar to work together with unified control.
  • Integrated bass drivers: The woofers are installed inside the soundbar cabinet. This is the true all-in-one interpretation.
  • Bass-reflex or passive-radiator design: Ports or passive radiators help a bar produce more low-frequency output, but they are not the same as a conventional powered subwoofer.
  • Included wireless subwoofer: A separate powered subwoofer ships with the bar. It communicates wirelessly for audio but still needs a mains power cable.
  • Optional subwoofer compatibility: The bar works on its own but requires a separate purchase for serious low-end performance.
  • Virtual bass: Digital processing creates the impression of added bass without reproducing the deepest frequencies at high output.

A separate subwoofer normally has a larger cabinet, a larger acoustic volume, and more driver excursion available than a slim soundbar. “Built-in” therefore means simpler and tidier—not automatically more powerful.

Best true all-in-one soundbars

Sonos Arc Ultra: best premium all-in-one option

The Sonos Arc Ultra is the strongest fit for buyers who want a premium bar with bass-producing drivers inside the cabinet and no separate bass box. Its appeal is as much about convenience, appearance, music playback, and the Sonos multiroom ecosystem as it is about home-cinema effects.

Choose it when you have limited floor space, already use Sonos products, or want a clean installation that can later expand with a Sonos Sub, Sub Mini, or Era speakers. Its integrated design can produce impressive bass, but it should not be expected to match the deepest, highest-output performance of a large separate subwoofer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is a poor value if your only goal is maximum movie impact per dollar or if you do not want an app-dependent ecosystem.

Bluesound Pulse Cinema: best all-in-one choice for music

The Bluesound Pulse Cinema is a premium all-in-one bar aimed at listeners who also care about music and streaming. Current coverage highlights features including an analog input, wired subwoofer output, USB storage access, aptX Adaptive Bluetooth, and Bluesound multiroom integration. Its larger enclosure may help it sound fuller than smaller integrated-bass designs.

At a reported $1,499 in 2026 review coverage, it is difficult to justify for basic dialogue improvement alone. It makes more sense for someone who wants one substantial bar for television, films, and music, while retaining the option of adding a wired subwoofer later. Confirm US availability and the current price before purchase.

  • Wireless Subwoofer, Place It Anywhere: The wireless subwoofer connects to the soundbar without audio cables, giving you the freedom to place it anywhere in your room for flexible setup.
  • Mica-Reinforced Drivers for Greater Accuracy: Mica-reinforced diaphragms increase driver rigidity by up to 30%, helping suppress cone breakup and unwanted resonance. The enhanced stability helps reduce distortion by up to 20%, delivering cleaner, more accurate sound with improved clarity and detail.
  • VoiceMX Technology for Clear Dialogue: VoiceMX technology uses advanced DSP algorithms to isolate and enhance vocal frequencies in real time. By dynamically boosting the 120 Hz–6 kHz vocal range with adaptive EQ and gain control, dialogue stays clear and easy to follow in any scene.
  • BassMX Deep Bass Technology: With an 18 mm high-excursion driver, 6.5 L tuned cabinet, and high-density magnetic circuit, the wireless subwoofer produces strong low-frequency output. BassMX optimizes 45–150 Hz bass for deeper, tighter, and more realistic sound at any volume.
  • 240W Peak Output with 2.1 Channel System: Featuring a precision-tuned soundbar and a dedicated wireless subwoofer, the system delivers up to 240W of peak power for room-filling sound. With a frequency response of 45 Hz–18 kHz and a maximum SPL of 95 dB, it reproduces clear dialogue, detailed mids, and impactful bass for movies, music, and gaming.

Best soundbars that include a separate subwoofer

Samsung HW-Q800F: best midrange movie system

The Samsung HW-Q800F is a 5.1.2-channel system with a separate wireless subwoofer, Dolby Atmos, wireless Dolby Atmos, Q-Symphony, and SpaceFit Sound Pro, according to Samsung’s specifications.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is a strong choice for films and games when you want more low-end impact than an all-in-one bar can usually provide without moving to a full surround package. Samsung TV owners can benefit most from Q-Symphony, which coordinates compatible Samsung TV speakers with the soundbar. Owners of other brands can still use the core soundbar, but that ecosystem feature has little value.

Remember that the subwoofer needs floor space and its own power outlet. This is not a built-in-subwoofer soundbar in the literal sense.

Sony BRAVIA Theatre Bar 6 / HT-B600: best simple 3.1.2 system

The Sony BRAVIA Theatre Bar 6, identified in support documentation as the HT-B600, combines a 3.1.2-channel bar with a separate wireless subwoofer. It supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, and includes voice and night modes.

Connectivity includes HDMI eARC/ARC, optical input, Bluetooth 5.3, and control through Sony | BRAVIA Connect. Sony lists the bar at approximately 37.4 inches wide and the subwoofer at 210 × 388 × 388 mm, so measure the stand and floor area before ordering.

This is particularly attractive for Sony TV owners who want BRAVIA Sync integration and a simpler system without rear speakers. Its virtual surround and height effects should not be described as equivalent to dedicated rear speakers. Consumer Reports’ 2026 guide gave it a reference price of $650; treat that as a market signal, not a guaranteed current offer.

  • PICK UP EVERY PIECE OF DIALOGUE: Hear voices more clearly with automatically amplified dialogue allowing it to stand out so you don't miss a word, no matter what you're watching.

JBL Bar 1000MK2: best flexible surround package

The JBL Bar 1000MK2 includes a separate subwoofer and detachable surround speakers. Those battery-powered surrounds can create a more convincing wraparound effect than a single bar, provided they are charged and placed sensibly behind the listening position.

It also provides dedicated HDMI inputs in addition to the TV’s eARC/ARC connection and includes room calibration. JBL’s manual lists the subwoofer at 325 × 400 × 325 mm. That makes it substantially less discreet than an all-in-one bar, but the arrangement is more capable for action films, games, and larger rooms.

Choose it only if you are comfortable with extra setup, charging, another powered component, and the physical presence of a subwoofer.

JBL Bar 1300MK2: best high-end one-box surround system

The JBL Bar 1300MK2 is not a simple soundbar with built-in bass. It is an 11.1.4-channel surround package with detachable rear speakers and a separate subwoofer. JBL documentation specifies a subwoofer rated at up to 1,200 W maximum output.

That wattage is a specification signal, not a direct measurement of sound quality. The system is best suited to buyers who want substantial action-movie impact and a complete surround experience without assembling an AV receiver system. It is unnecessary for a small room, an apartment, or someone whose main problem is unclear speech.

Polk MagniFi Max AX or AX SR: dialogue-friendly alternative

The Polk MagniFi Max AX range is worth considering when clear speech and strong bass matter more than an extensive ecosystem. Consumer Reports’ 2026 guide lists the MagniFi Max AX as a 3.1.2-channel, non-surround system that can expand to 5.1.2, with a reference price of $580.

  • Stream it all: Not in the mood for a film. No problem. With the JBL Bar 2.1 Deep Bass, you can also enjoy wireless music streaming via Bluetooth from your mobile or tablet.

Check the exact current listing: the AX and AX SR bundles are not interchangeable, and rear speakers may or may not be included. Verify the successor model, package contents, stock, HDMI features, and current price before relying on an older recommendation.

Choose by room and listening habits

  • Small bedroom or office: Choose a compact all-in-one bar and prioritize dialogue, low-volume balance, and night mode.
  • Small living room: An integrated-bass bar may be sufficient. A compact bar-plus-subwoofer system works if you have a suitable floor position.
  • Medium room: A separate subwoofer will usually be more satisfying for films, especially at moderate or high volume.
  • Large or open-plan room: Consider a larger bar with an external subwoofer and rear speakers. A single integrated bar may sound thin when asked to fill a large space.
  • Apartment or late-night viewing: Favor adjustable bass, voice enhancement, and night mode. Night mode reduces dynamic range; it does not make deep bass disappear.
  • Dialogue-heavy television: A well-tuned 3.0 or 3.1 bar may be a better purchase than a bass-heavy Atmos package.
  • Music: Look beyond bass quantity. Streaming support, stereo width, vocal balance, app quality, and multiroom features matter. The Bluesound Pulse Cinema is the most music-oriented candidate in this group.

Dolby Atmos: useful, but not decisive

Dolby Atmos support means the bar can decode an Atmos soundtrack. It does not guarantee convincing sound above or around you.

Up-firing height drivers work best with a reasonably flat, reflective ceiling and a suitable seating position. High, angled, textured, or heavily absorptive ceilings can weaken the reflected effect. A bar with separate rear speakers will generally produce more convincing surround envelopment than a bar relying solely on virtual processing.

Do not choose Atmos over clear dialogue, balanced tuning, useful connections, or a bass system that fits your room. A codec label cannot overcome poor placement or an unsuitable room.

Connections to require

  • HDMI eARC: The preferred connection for modern TVs and the broadest support for high-quality formats.
  • HDMI ARC: Adequate for many setups, but more limited than eARC.
  • HDMI inputs on the bar: Useful when the TV lacks enough compatible inputs or when connecting a console or disc player through the soundbar.
  • Optical: A practical fallback for older TVs, but it has more limited format and control support.
  • Bluetooth: Convenient for casual playback, though not a replacement for Wi-Fi streaming.
  • Wi-Fi, AirPlay, Chromecast, or Spotify Connect: Important for buyers who will use the bar for music.
  • USB: Often limited to firmware updates or particular local-playback functions; check the exact model.

Before buying, inspect the labels on the TV. Confirm whether the HDMI socket is ARC or eARC, whether the TV passes Atmos from its apps and connected devices, and whether a console’s 4K/120Hz, VRR, and HDR signals can pass through the soundbar. A socket labeled HDMI does not automatically support every gaming feature.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Also check the bar’s height. It should not obscure the screen or block the TV’s infrared sensor. Sony recommends HDMI ARC/eARC where available and lists optical as the fallback for the HT-B600; its guidance is a useful reminder to check both devices’ terminals before choosing a cable.

How to place a separate subwoofer

  1. Put the subwoofer on the floor rather than inside a cabinet.
  2. Start near the front wall, close to the TV.
  3. Try more than one position. Bass response can change substantially across a room.
  4. Avoid forcing it tightly into a corner unless calibration and your ears confirm the result is controlled.
  5. Keep it within the manufacturer’s recommended wireless range.
  6. Remember that wireless audio still requires a mains power cable.
  7. Run room calibration again after moving the subwoofer.

If bass sounds weak in one seat and boomy in another, the problem may be room interaction rather than a defective subwoofer. Lowering the bass level, moving the unit, or changing the listening position can help more than selecting a louder sound mode.

Dialogue, bass, and surround are separate decisions

Strong bass does not guarantee clear speech. Look for a dedicated center channel, voice enhancement, night mode, and intelligibility at low volume. Excessive bass can mask dialogue, particularly when a bar’s tuning emphasizes explosions over voices.

Likewise, a multichannel or Atmos label does not mean the system provides real rear-channel placement. Distinguish among a bar-only virtual system, a bar with up-firing drivers, a bar with separate rear speakers, and a system with detachable surrounds. The latter options generally require more space, power outlets, pairing, and setup.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Setup and troubleshooting

No sound

  1. Set the TV audio output to HDMI ARC/eARC or optical.
  2. Select the matching input on the soundbar.
  3. Mute or disable the TV’s internal speakers if both systems are playing.
  4. Check HDMI-CEC settings, such as Samsung Anynet+ or Sony BRAVIA Sync.
  5. Try optical temporarily if ARC/eARC negotiation fails.
  6. Power-cycle the TV and soundbar.
  7. Check whether the source is sending an unsupported format.

The subwoofer will not pair

  • Confirm that both devices are powered.
  • Move the subwoofer closer temporarily.
  • Enter pairing mode using the exact button sequence for that model.
  • Check for firmware updates.
  • Reset the system only after recording your preferred settings.

Pairing controls vary by manufacturer. JBL’s Bar 1300MK2 manual documents a specific manual re-pairing process; do not assume it applies to Samsung, Sony, Polk, or Sonos products.

Audio is delayed

  • Prefer HDMI eARC over Bluetooth or optical where possible.
  • Disable unnecessary TV audio processing.
  • Use the soundbar’s audio-sync control.
  • Test both signal paths: console to TV to bar, and console to bar to TV.
  • Update the TV and soundbar firmware.

Sony has published HT-B600 firmware information addressing ARC startup delay and an audio-decoding/display issue. That illustrates why the exact regional model and firmware version matter.

Bass is weak or boomy

  • Move a separate subwoofer away from the corner.
  • Reduce its level rather than relying on a bass-boost mode.
  • Run room calibration again.
  • Check whether a sound mode is adding bass.
  • Remove the subwoofer from enclosed furniture.
  • If the bass is integrated into the bar, recognize that cabinet size and room acoustics set practical limits.

When a soundbar is the wrong choice

Choose an AV receiver and separate speakers if you want the most flexible upgrade path, independent speaker placement, and genuinely full-room surround. Choose powered stereo speakers if music quality matters more than Atmos effects and you have room beside the TV. Choose headphones if late-night viewing is the priority and you need to eliminate bass transmission to neighbors.

An existing soundbar may also support an optional subwoofer or rear speakers. Before replacing it, check whether an upgrade kit is compatible and compare the complete cost with buying a new system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Final buying checklist

  • Does “built-in” mean drivers inside the bar, or is a separate subwoofer included?
  • Do you have floor space and a power outlet for an external subwoofer?
  • Are rear speakers included, detachable, optional, or unavailable?
  • Does the TV have HDMI ARC or eARC?
  • Will your console’s 4K/120Hz and VRR signals pass through the bar?
  • Does the bar fit below the TV without blocking the screen or remote sensor?
  • Are dialogue enhancement and night mode available?
  • Does the room suit up-firing Atmos drivers?
  • Are Wi-Fi streaming and multiroom features important?
  • What is the complete system price, including required accessories and optional surrounds?
  • Is the exact model currently available in your country?
