For a true one-vessel workflow, compare the GreenPan 7-in-1, GreenPan Elite 14-in-1, Instant Pot Superior Cooker, All-Clad Gourmet, and Morphy Richards Sear and Stew—but check the exact model, cooktop compatibility, capacity, controls, and current availability before buying.
What “browning” means on a slow cooker
A conventional slow cooker may not reach the heat needed to brown meat or sauté aromatics. Browning-capable models address that in two different ways:
- Powered sear or sauté: the cooker heats ingredients in its pot, then switches to slow cooking. This keeps the process in the appliance, though the sear results and controls vary by model.
- Stovetop-safe removable pot: brown ingredients on the hob in the pot, then place it in the slow cooker base. This can avoid transferring food to a separate pan, but compatibility depends on the pot and your heat source.
Do not assume a removable insert works on induction. For example, Ideal Home describes the Morphy Richards Sear and Stew’s aluminum pot as hob-safe but not induction-compatible. Its guide also highlights practical handling and control drawbacks. Read Ideal Home’s tested slow-cooker guide.
Slow cookers with browning: what the sources establish
| Model | Browning approach and functions | Capacity | Useful qualifications |
|---|---|---|---|
| GreenPan 7-in-1 6-Quart Slow Cooker with In-Pot Browning | Brown/Sauté and Slow Cook; removable pot is stovetop- and oven-safe up to 400°F, according to GreenPan. | 6 quarts | GreenPan says the pot and lid are dishwasher-safe and recommends silicone utensils to extend coating life. The page showed the item temporarily out of stock when accessed October 8, 2026; availability can change. GreenPan product details. |
| GreenPan Elite 14-in-1 6-Quart Slow Cooker | In-pot browning with presets including slow cook and sear/sauté. | 6 quarts | GreenPan describes a removable hard-anodized pot and says its ceramic coating is made without intentionally added PFAS. That is the manufacturer’s wording, not an independent safety assessment. GreenPan product details. |
| Instant Pot Superior Cooker | Slow cook, sauté, steam, and warm; Instant Pot says ingredients can be browned before slow cooking and sauces reduced afterward. | 7.5 quarts | These are manufacturer descriptions, not comparative test results. Instant Pot’s product-page copy says, “Sears, sautés, steams, and stores.” Instant Pot product details. |
| All-Clad Gourmet Slow Cooker with All-in-One Browning | Food Network lists sear, slow cook, steam, rice, and simmer settings. | 7 quarts | Food Network named it best overall in its 2026 tested roundup, reporting tender meat, steady temperature, and a rapid arrival at simmer in its testing. It also notes the higher cost and large countertop footprint; no price is quoted here. Food Network’s 2026 tested roundup. |
| Morphy Richards Sear and Stew | Brown in the removable aluminum pot on the hob, then return the pot to the cooker base. | 3.5 litres in Ideal Home’s tested model | Ideal Home’s review says this hob method is not induction-compatible. In its test, the pot slid on a cast-iron gas-burner support and its handles became hot; the manual cooker lacks automatic shutoff and keep-warm. The separate Morphy Richards Australia product sheet conflicts: its title says 6.5L, while its capacity field says 3.5 litres. Confirm the exact regional SKU rather than assuming those listings are the same model. Ideal Home guide; Morphy Richards Australia product sheet. |
How to choose the right design
Choose powered sear/sauté for an integrated workflow
If you want the appliance itself to provide the browning heat, prioritize models that explicitly list sear or sauté and slow cook as functions. GreenPan’s 7-in-1 and Elite 14-in-1 list both; Instant Pot lists sauté and slow cook; Food Network lists sear and slow cook for the All-Clad. The sources do not establish that these functions produce identical browning, so treat the labels as feature descriptions rather than a ranking of searing performance.

Choose a stovetop insert only if it suits your hob
A removable pot can save a separate skillet and food transfer, but confirm the manufacturer’s permitted heat sources for the exact pot. The Morphy Richards example is aluminum and not induction-compatible. Ideal Home’s test also found that its pot could slide on a cast-iron gas-burner support and that the handles became hot, so check burner stability and use appropriate protection when handling hot cookware.
Match capacity to the way you cook
The cited options range from Ideal Home’s tested 3.5-litre Morphy Richards model to 6-quart GreenPan cookers, a 7-quart All-Clad, and a 7.5-quart Instant Pot. These are different products and regional listings; the figures alone do not establish the best size for a household. Consider the batch size you normally make and confirm the stated capacity for the exact model you are shopping for.

Check holding, cleanup, space, and extras
- Unattended schedules: confirm whether the cooker has automatic shutoff or keep-warm if you need either. Ideal Home says its tested 3.5-litre Morphy Richards model has neither.
- Cleaning: GreenPan says the 7-in-1 pot and lid are dishwasher-safe and recommends silicone utensils to extend the coating’s life. Check the care instructions for any other model rather than assuming the same rules apply.
- Counter space and cost: Food Network flags the All-Clad’s large footprint and higher cost as tradeoffs. Recheck current pricing and dimensions before purchase.
- Extra functions: steam, rice, or simmer modes can be useful if you will use them, but they are not a substitute for checking slow-cooking controls and capacity.
Bottom line by cooking style
- For built-in browning functions: compare the GreenPan 7-in-1, GreenPan Elite 14-in-1, Instant Pot Superior Cooker, and All-Clad Gourmet. Their listed controls differ, so choose based on the functions and capacity you actually need.
- For stovetop browning in the same removable pot: the Morphy Richards Sear and Stew is an example, but its tested 3.5-litre version is not induction-compatible and has handling and control limitations noted by Ideal Home.
- For any option: verify the exact regional model and live stock status. In particular, the GreenPan 7-in-1 was temporarily out of stock when its page was accessed, and Morphy Richards Australia’s product sheet lists conflicting capacities.
