The best choice is a treadmill-specific silicone lubricant only if your treadmill’s owner’s manual specifies silicone. Treadmills can require silicone, wax, a proprietary lubricant, or no user-applied lubricant at all, so check the exact model before buying. A generic silicone aerosol spray is not automatically suitable beneath a running belt.
How to choose the right treadmill lubricant
Start with the exact model’s manual
Check the owner’s manual for the lubricant type, application method, and service interval. Treadmill requirements vary even within a brand: some models use silicone, others use wax or a proprietary product, and some have self-lubricating systems. A brand-level guide can help identify what to check, but it cannot replace the instructions for your machine. Johnson Fitness’s treadmill lubrication guide summarizes these differences.
Choose a treadmill-specific product when silicone is required
If the manual calls for silicone, look for a treadmill-specific 100% silicone lubricant. A bottle with a long nozzle or an applicator wand can help reach beneath the belt, but use only a format compatible with the manufacturer’s procedure. Johnson Fitness describes its Treadlube system as silicone-based and intended for treadmills that use silicone lubricant on the running belt and deck; the product page currently says it is not available for online purchase. See the Treadlube product listing.
How treadmill lubricant options compare
| Option | When it fits | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Treadmill-specific silicone lubricant | When the manual specifies silicone for the belt and deck | Confirm the formula, application method, and compatibility with your model. |
| Wax or proprietary lubricant | When the manual names that product type | Do not substitute silicone based on a general brand guide. |
| Self-lubricating system | When the treadmill is designed to operate without routine user lubrication | Follow the manual’s maintenance instructions rather than adding lubricant by default. |
| Silicone wand applicator | As an application accessory when compatible with the treadmill and the lubricant | The Vision VFW-LW listing says lubricant is sold separately and excludes Infinity Belts and Infinity Decks, warning that use can increase deck friction. Check the Vision applicator listing. |
Do not treat “silicone spray” as a sufficient compatibility description. Matrix Fitness’s April 2020 approved-lubricants document says it does not recommend aerosol sprays for guide rods; that warning concerns guide rods and should not be generalized into a prohibition on every aerosol treadmill product. Use the machine’s instructions to determine what belongs on the belt and deck. Read Matrix Fitness’s approved-lubricants document.

- 4.2 Ounce / 1 Bottle-Includes : 1 Bottle of Silicone treadmill belt lubricant (≥ 4.2oz) + 1 Hard application tube (easy to apply) + 1 Replacement application tube (choice) + 1 Precision screw cap (control the flow of silicone oil) + 2 Pcs of Oil absorption cloth (can be wiped if the operation is wrong) + 1 Sealing cap (long-term storage)
- Silcone Lubricant : Specially customized pure silicone oil lubricant for treadmills.Colorless transparent silicon lubricant .
- Patented Applicator :The patented design of the applicator easily completes full width belt lubrication (without the need to loosen the belt).Adjustable:Up to 10 inches in length.A long and hard tube that can easily move under the belt and reach the designated position to complete the application.Even if the tube is broken or bent, we still provide spare new tube for replacement.
- Applicability :Suitable for treadmills that require non-petroleum silicon-based lubricants. If you have not used lubricants before, you can consult the treadmill sellers or manufacturer to confirm if they are suitable. It is widely used in modern treadmills. It's Suitable for household and heavy commercial treadmills, most elliptical equipment, and other sports equipment.(non-toxic and Odorless.
- NOTE : -1. Ensure that there are no cleaning agents under the belt (chemical reactions can affect effectiveness and use) -2.Do not recommend using silicon lubricants on metal structures. Because silicone lubricants have a good effect on plastic/ rubber products and cannot replace metal lubricants (chains, metal gears, bearings, etc.)
How often to lubricate a treadmill
There is no universal schedule. The interval depends on the treadmill model and its lubrication system. Johnson Fitness’s guide, published December 18, 2025 and last edited May 14, 2026, gives these examples:
| Brand or model example | Example interval in the guide | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| NordicTrack | Every three months or 130 miles, whichever comes first | Retailer-guide example; confirm the interval for your exact model in its manual. |
| Horizon | Every three months or 150 miles | Retailer-guide example; confirm the interval for your exact model in its manual. |
| Some Landice L7 and L8 models | Every 2,500 miles | Guide example using proprietary SlipCoat, not a general silicone schedule. |
These examples illustrate why a schedule should not be transferred from one treadmill to another. Check the manual for both the required product and the interval.

- The original applicator tube for easy full width belt lubrication. Each controllable squeeze bottle of treadmill lubricant comes with 2 dispensing options, both caps specifically chosen to match the silicone viscosity for ideal flow control. Each bottle comes with a twist spout dispensing top for general purpose lubricating. Also included is our patented 8 inch extension tube cap, designed with a straight and stiff tube to reach under the belt for full width belt lubrication.
- Pure silicone treadmill belt lubricant formulated for a wide range of modern treadmills. Works great for home and heavy duty commercial treadmills, most elliptical equipment, and other exercise equipment. Non-toxic and odorless.
- Eliminate mess. Full belt width lubrication with no need to lossen the belt. The patented cap with tubing easily slides between the belt and deck to deliver lubricant to the center of the belt, right where it's needed. The tube size was selected to match the lubricant viscosity for ideal flow control. Modern crush resistent packaging and an induction sealed cap seal the bottle for safe shipping.
- Protects your equipment from costly repairs by reducing friction between the belt and deck. Experts advise that regular lubrication reduces noise, extends both belt and motor life, eliminates belt hesitation, and makes your workouts safer and more enjoyable. Each 4 oz bottle contains approximately 4 applications, enough to protect your treadmill for a full year.
- Keeps you and your treadmill in tip-top shape! Ideal for all treadmills requiring non-petroleum silicone based lubricant including Nautilus, Epic, Landice, LifeSpan, NordicTrack, Sole, ProForm, Life Fitness, Horizon, Lifestyler, Sportcraft, Star Trac, Schwinn, PaceMaster, Precor, Smooth, Spirit, Vision, Fuel, and more.
How to apply lubricant safely
- Confirm the procedure. Read the manual for the correct product and whether the belt should be loosened or accessed in a particular way.
- Turn off and unplug the treadmill. Johnson Fitness recommends disconnecting power before starting its lubrication procedure.
- Apply only where directed. The guide describes applying lubricant beneath the belt, onto the deck. Follow your treadmill’s manual for the amount and placement; do not infer a dosage from a different model or product.
- Distribute the lubricant as instructed. Johnson Fitness describes running the treadmill slowly after application to spread lubricant. Use the speed and duration specified for your machine.
Product quantities are not interchangeable across models. For example, Matrix’s April 2020 document lists its specified S-Drive silicone lubricant in a 100 ml package for two applications per bottle and a 2-liter package for 40 applications. Those are package-use quantities for that product, not a universal treadmill dose. Matrix Fitness approved-lubricants document.
