Which mounting method is most suitable for textured tile?
Tile texture can keep a suction cup from forming the seal it needs. A shower-tidy seller says its suction product is unsuitable on non-flat, porous, rustic textured, and mosaic tile. Treat suction mounting as a poor default on those surfaces; it may be suitable only where the caddy can attach to a sufficiently smooth, nonporous area.
Adhesive mounting is not automatically compatible with every textured wall either. Look for an explicit surface-compatibility statement, follow the installation directions, and check that the shower-wall material can tolerate the adhesive. If neither suction nor adhesive is appropriate, a tension-pole organizer or a drilled basket may be alternatives, but their fit depends on the room and installation conditions.

- Surface match: Confirm the manufacturer names your tile or wall material. “Tile” alone does not prove compatibility with every texture, grout pattern, or porous surface.
- Installation and wait time: Follow the product’s surface preparation and curing instructions. For ShowerGem, the stated instruction is to apply the included adhesive to the wall bracket and wait 24 hours before use.
- Load capacity: Treat a listed capacity as the manufacturer’s stated limit, not a guarantee for every installation. 3M lists 6.5 lb for BATH11; avoid exceeding that limit and account for the combined weight of the caddy and its contents.
- Wall-material restrictions: ShowerGem says its caddy is compatible with textured, smooth, porcelain, and ceramic tile and PVC/plastic hygiene walls, while warning against laminates, wall boards, and vinyls. Its product page advises checking with the bathroom-surface manufacturer.
- Storage design: Compare basket layout, drainage, and whether the items you use will fit securely. Surface compatibility alone does not establish how well a particular layout will suit your shower.
- Removal implications: Check the product’s removal instructions and consider whether the attachment method could affect the tile finish or underlying surface. Do not assume an adhesive is damage-free to remove unless the manufacturer says so for your surface.

For an adhesive caddy
Use the manufacturer’s specified adhesive and bracket, prepare the wall as directed, and observe the full set time before putting anything in the caddy. ShowerGem’s directions call for 24 hours before use. Its stated compatibility and restrictions are product-specific and should not be treated as a universal guarantee for all tile or shower-wall materials.

For a suction caddy
Inspect the exact spot where the cups would sit. Raised texture, grout lines, pores, or a mosaic pattern can interrupt the seal; a nearby smooth patch may be different from the rest of the wall. If the cup cannot sit flat on a suitable surface, select another mounting approach.
For a drilled or tension-pole organizer
Drilling is a permanent intervention, so establish what is behind the tile and whether the wall can safely take the fixings. A tension pole avoids wall attachment but depends on a suitable floor-to-ceiling span and stable contact. These options are installation approaches, not endorsements of a particular product.

What the product claims do—and do not—establish
The available product information supports a useful distinction: ShowerGem explicitly claims textured-tile compatibility, while 3M lists tile compatibility without a specific textured-tile statement. Neither claim independently proves long-term performance on every tile profile or installation. There is no independent side-by-side performance test or durability trial here, so the options should be compared by their stated compatibility and installation constraints rather than called a tested winner.
