The right panel-ready undercounter ice maker depends less on a universal “best” and more on whether its drain, dimensions, ice type, and custom-front requirements fit your kitchen plan. JennAir, KitchenAid, Sub-Zero, and Summit publish options in this category, but the available manufacturer specifications do not establish an independent winner for performance or reliability.
What “panel-ready” means—and what it doesn’t
A panel-ready ice maker is designed to accept a cabinet-matching overlay on its front. The term does not mean that the custom panel or handle is included. KitchenAid explicitly says the custom panel and handle for its KUIX515SPA are not included; Summit publishes recommended panel dimensions for its BIM26H32IF. Check the exact model’s panel thickness, hinge and handle compatibility, and installation instructions before ordering cabinetry or hardware.
These are built-in, undercounter appliances, not countertop ice makers. Their fit depends on the cabinet opening and utility layout as well as the visible front.
Compare the models by installation fit and published specifications
| Model | Drain and installation notes | Ice and capacity | Panel and other details |
|---|---|---|---|
| JennAir JUIFX15HX | 15-inch panel-ready undercounter model with a drain pump. | 25 pounds of storage, according to JennAir. | Manufacturer accessory listings include panel kits, filters, handles, and a water-line kit. Confirm compatibility with the model’s hinge and design line. |
| JennAir JUIFN15HX | 15-inch cutout width; 33.75 inches high and 24 inches deep; gravity drain. | 25 pounds of storage. | Gravity drainage makes the location and plumbing route a key planning constraint. Verify the installation guide for the specific site. |
| KitchenAid KUIX515SPA | 15-inch panel-ready automatic ice maker with a pump system. | Clear-cube technology; 25-pound bin. KitchenAid says, “The storage bin holds up to 25 pounds of ice for added convenience.” | Custom panel and handle are not included. The product page showed temporarily out of stock when checked; recheck current availability. |
| Sub-Zero DEU1550I | 15 inches wide by 34 1/2 inches high by 23 1/8 inches deep. Electrical specification: 115 VAC, 60 Hz, dedicated 15-amp circuit. | Sub-Zero lists 25 pounds of storage. Its quick reference guide, generated October 4, 2026, says it produces up to 65 pounds of clear, cube-shaped ice per day. | Confirm panel and installation details in current documentation. Do not substitute specifications for older Sub-Zero UC-15I or UC-15IP models. |
| Summit BIM26H32IF | 14.88 inches wide by 31.75 inches high by 20.13 inches deep; front-breathing. Summit says no drain or pump is required. | Up to 25 pounds of crescent ice per day. | Recommended panel: 27 9/16 by 14 13/16 inches, 3/4-inch thick. Verify the installation drawing and current inventory. |
All figures above are manufacturer-published, model-specific specifications, not independent measurements. Production per day and bin storage describe different things: for example, Sub-Zero’s DEU1550I guide states up to 65 pounds per day, while its product specifications list 25 pounds of storage. Actual household output is not established by these published figures.

Choose the drain arrangement before choosing the cabinet location
Drainage can rule out an otherwise suitable appliance. These models illustrate three different approaches: the JennAir JUIFX15HX and KitchenAid KUIX515SPA list pump systems; the JennAir JUIFN15HX uses a gravity drain; Summit describes the BIM26H32IF as requiring no drain or pump. Those descriptions do not replace the installation guide’s requirements for plumbing route, drain height, or other site conditions.
- Pump-equipped: Consider this arrangement when the planned drain location makes gravity drainage impractical, then check the manufacturer’s exact pump and routing instructions.
- Gravity drain: The appliance location must work with the specified gravity-drain route. Confirm that route with the installer before fixing the cabinet layout.
- Drain-free, as described by Summit: This may offer placement flexibility, but confirm all other installation and utility requirements for the BIM26H32IF.
Check the opening, door, panel, and utilities as one installation
Do not finalize cabinetry from a nominal “15-inch” width alone. The documented models vary in height and depth, and a finished installation also has to accommodate the door, panel, handle, and service access. Sub-Zero’s current DEU1550I quick reference guide says specifications are subject to change and advises verifying them before cabinetry is finalized.

- Opening and clearances: Confirm the model-specific cutout width, height, and depth, plus finished returns, door swing, hinge side, and clearance from neighboring cabinetry.
- Overlay and hardware: Determine whether the front panel, handle, and hinge hardware are included or separately sourced. Match the overlay’s dimensions and thickness to the exact model and swing.
- Water and drain: Locate the water connection and shutoff, and check the required drain arrangement and routing in the installation guide.
- Electrical supply: Confirm the appliance’s voltage, frequency, circuit requirements, and access for service. The DEU1550I specifications, for example, call for 115 VAC, 60 Hz, and a dedicated 15-amp circuit.
- Maintenance and service: Check filter compatibility, cleaning and sanitizing instructions, and how the unit can be accessed for service after installation.
Have the cabinetmaker, plumber, and electrician work from the current installation documentation for the selected model. Published product-page dimensions are helpful for screening options, but the model-specific installation guide should govern the final opening and utility rough-in.

- If a pump-equipped model suits the planned drain route: Compare the JennAir JUIFX15HX and KitchenAid KUIX515SPA, then confirm panel and handle sourcing. KitchenAid’s page showed temporary out-of-stock status when checked, so availability needs a fresh check.
- If a gravity drain is workable: The JennAir JUIFN15HX is a documented 15-inch option with stated dimensions and 25 pounds of storage.
- If stated daily production matters most: Sub-Zero publishes up to 65 pounds per day for the DEU1550I, alongside 25 pounds of storage. Treat these as separate manufacturer specifications, not a comparative household-output test.
- If the site has no drain or limited counter height: Summit describes the BIM26H32IF as drain-free and lists a height of 31.75 inches. Verify its fit, panel dimensions, and all installation requirements against the current drawings.
These are fit-based ways to narrow a shortlist, not performance rankings. The available material does not provide comparable independent tests of noise, energy use, measured output, repair rates, or lifespan. Claims such as quiet operation, slow-melting ice, or long ice retention should be treated as manufacturer language unless independently corroborated. Check current price, stock, delivery, warranty, and regional dealer availability directly before purchase; availability and prices can change.
