If you want a Levoit purifier to supplement mold cleanup in one room, the Core 300S-P is a reasonable candidate to consider: Levoit rates it for 219 square feet at 4.8 air changes per hour (ACH). That is a more useful sizing figure than its larger 1,051-square-foot rating, which is based on just one air change per hour. An air purifier cannot fix a leak, remove mold growing on surfaces, or control the moisture that caused it. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says to address the moisture source and clean up the mold.
Which Levoit air purifier is best for mold?
The Levoit Core 300S-P Smart Air Purifier is a plausible choice for supplemental particle filtration in a suitably sized room. Levoit lists a clean air delivery rate (CADR) of 141 cubic feet per minute (CFM), with coverage of 219 square feet at 4.8 ACH or 1,051 square feet at 1 ACH. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent tests of mold removal. For choosing a room purifier, use the 219-square-foot figure if you want the higher stated air-change rate.
There is an important qualification if you are buying it specifically for mold: Levoit’s current U.S. product page describes “3-Stage Filtration” but does not identify a HEPA grade. An older Core 300S manual uses the term “H13 True HEPA” and claims at least 99.97% capture of 0.3-micron particles, while ENERGY STAR’s Core 300S record classifies its filter as “HEPA-Type.” Those descriptions do not establish that every current Core 300S-P or replacement filter has a verified H13 grade. Check the manual and packaging for the exact unit and filter you plan to use.
Levoit’s current U.S. listing is for the Core 300S-P, identified as model Core 300S. Its listed 23-watt rated power and 22–50 dB noise range may also matter when deciding whether it can run for the hours you need. Specifications can change; confirm them on the current Levoit product page.

Can an air purifier get rid of mold?
No. A portable air cleaner may capture some airborne particles generated by mold, but it does not remove mold growing on a wall, ceiling, or other surface, and it cannot stop growth while moisture remains. The EPA’s advice is direct: “To solve a mold problem, get rid of the source of the moisture and clean up the mold.” Filtration does not replace source control or ventilation.
Use a purifier, if you choose one, as a supplement to addressing the cause and cleaning up—not as a substitute for those steps. If growth is active, recurring, or extensive, prioritize repairing the moisture source and arranging appropriate cleanup. A purifier should not be treated as a way to prevent or treat illness.

How to size the Core 300S-P for your room
Match the purifier’s airflow to the room and the air-change rate you want, rather than selecting it by the largest coverage number on the box. Levoit’s 1,051-square-foot rating is for 1 ACH; its 219-square-foot rating is for 4.8 ACH. A larger open area or higher ceiling increases the volume of air the purifier must handle.
The EPA’s general estimate for rooms with eight-foot ceilings calls for at least 130 CFM CADR for 200 square feet and 195 CFM for 300 square feet. These are general sizing guidelines, not an endorsement of a particular brand or model. The Core 300S-P’s listed 141 CFM CADR is above the EPA estimate for 200 square feet but below its estimate for 300 square feet. This comparison is a rough guide, not proof of a particular room’s performance; the EPA notes that CADR is typically measured at the highest speed.

For more context, use the EPA’s Guide to Air Cleaners in the Home. The EPA says to place a portable cleaner where people spend time and keep its airflow unobstructed. Higher fan speeds and longer operating times generally filter more air, but noise can make a setting harder to live with.

Verify the filter grade for your exact unit
Do not assume that the older manual’s H13 wording or particle-capture figure applies to a current retail unit or every filter sold for the series. The older manual is dated 2021; ENERGY STAR’s listing gives a “HEPA-Type” classification and a certification date of April 27, 2021. Neither resolves the grade of a particular current replacement filter. Look at the current unit manual and the packaging for the specific filter, and avoid extending a general particle-efficiency claim into a guarantee about all mold spores.

Confirm compatibility before ordering
Levoit’s current U.S. product page lists a Core 300 Series Original Filter as a related item. Check the exact model and current manual before buying a replacement. An older manual names several filter variants, including one labeled “Mould and Bacteria,” but that historical listing does not establish current availability, compatibility with every unit revision, or an independently verified antimicrobial result.

Keep moisture under control
The older manual warns that excessive humidity can make the filter surface moldy and gives an operating condition below 85% relative humidity. Treat that as guidance from the older manual, not a substitute for the current manual’s instructions. Follow the documentation for your unit and address the source of excess moisture.
Is the Core 300S-P a good fit for your situation?
- Consider it as a supplement if the room is within the appropriate coverage for your desired ACH and you want to filter some airborne particles while addressing the mold and moisture problem separately.
- Look for more capacity if your room is substantially larger than 219 square feet and you want a higher air-change rate, or if high ceilings or an open plan add to the air volume.
- Check the filter documentation closely if a specific HEPA grade is a deciding factor. The current product listing does not name one.
- Avoid intentional ozone generators. The EPA identifies ozone as a lung irritant and advises avoiding portable cleaners designed to produce it. Levoit labels the Core 300S-P ozone free; that wording is the manufacturer’s claim.
The Core 300S-P is not a mold-remediation device. Its usefulness depends on room size, airflow, filter documentation, and whether it can run at a practical speed for the time needed.
