The best kegerator conversion kit is the one that fits your refrigerator, keg connection, and desired tap count—not simply the kit with the most parts. Before buying, choose a tower or door-mounted faucet, confirm whether your keg needs a US Sankey D, ball-lock, or pin-lock coupler, and verify what the kit actually includes.
What to check before choosing a kit
A conversion kit connects a keg to a faucet and supplies the hardware needed to dispense beer. Kits vary, so compare the parts list rather than assuming every package includes a tank, regulator, coupler, lines, or drip tray.
- Mount: A tower sits on top of the refrigerator; a door-mount setup passes a faucet shank through the door or sidewall.
- Keg connection: The cited standard commercial-keg kits use US Sankey D couplers. Homebrew kegs may need ball-lock or pin-lock hardware instead.
- Tap count: Match the number of faucets and couplers to the number of kegs you plan to serve, and check that the gas distribution suits that setup.
- Included components: Look for the faucet and mount or shank, beer line, gas line, coupler, regulator, CO2 tank, and any cleaning or drip-tray items. Check whether a listed tank is supplied empty.
- Appliance fit: Measure usable interior space for the keg and coupler, and confirm there is room for the mount and its hardware. The cited sources do not establish a universal refrigerator or keg fit dimension.
Choose the mount that suits your refrigerator
Tower-mounted kit
A tower is mounted on top of the refrigerator, with the faucet attached to the tower and the beverage line running inside to the keg. The Kegworks tower instructions depict a tower, faucet, beer line, US Sankey coupler, gas line, double-gauge CO2 regulator, and a 5-pound tank as kit components. Treat that list as specific to the depicted kit, not a guarantee about other listings. See Kegworks’ tower conversion instructions.
Door- or sidewall-mounted kit
This arrangement places a shank through the refrigerator door or sidewall, with the faucet on the exterior and the keg inside. Kegworks’ instructions for the depicted door-mount kit specify a 7/8-, 15/16-, or 1-inch opening for the shank. Those are product-specific instructions, not universal hole sizes. The same instructions warn not to drill into the refrigerator’s back wall. Check the appliance layout and the current kit manual before drilling. Read the door-mount instructions.

Match the coupler to the keg
Do not order on the assumption that every keg uses the same fitting. The cited commercial-keg examples use US Sankey D couplers, while Kegco lists distinct Ultimate Tower kit configurations for ball-lock and pin-lock homebrew kegs. Confirm the connection on your actual keg before choosing a kit or replacement coupler.
- US Sankey D: Used by the cited Kegerators.com two-keg tower kit and the Kegco Deluxe Tower kit.
- Ball-lock or pin-lock: Separate Kegco Ultimate Tower kit listings illustrate these homebrew connection options.

How the conversion is assembled
The precise procedure depends on the refrigerator and kit. Use the product manual, and inspect the appliance construction before making holes. The following is the general connection sequence shown by the cited Kegworks instructions, not a substitute for the specific manual.
- Prepare the mount. Center and secure the tower on top of the refrigerator, or install the shank through the approved door or sidewall opening. For a door-mount kit, follow its specified hole size and do not drill into the back wall.
- Attach the faucet. Fit the faucet to the tower or shank using the kit’s fittings.
- Connect the beverage line. Run the beer line between the keg coupler and the faucet shank, then secure the connections as directed.
- Connect the gas line. Connect the regulator to the coupler with the gas line according to the kit instructions.
- Follow the manual to pressurize and check the system. Use the specified setup procedure and verify connections before serving.
When a kit is a good fit
A conversion kit can be a practical route if you already have a refrigerator or freezer that can accommodate the keg and can accept the chosen mount. It is not automatically a cheaper or easier choice for every appliance: the available evidence does not establish a universal cost comparison, and installation depends on the refrigerator’s construction and the kit’s requirements. Kegworks describes conversion as “an easy and cost effective way to get the beer flowing at home,” but that is the vendor’s promotional wording rather than an independently established result.
