For a bread-focused toaster with BALMUDA’s steam approach, consider BALMUDA The Toaster; choose The Toaster Pro if you specifically want its added Salamander finishing mode. Panasonic’s Bistro NT-D700 is another feature-oriented option, while BALMUDA’s steamless entry tier and Panasonic’s NT-D500 provide lower Japan-market price points. These are recommendations by feature and listed price—not a tested performance ranking.
Which Japanese toaster is worth buying?
The answer depends on what you want the appliance to do. BALMUDA’s Japanese comparison page separates its toasters into standard, Pro and entry tiers. Panasonic’s Japanese catalog lists the Bistro NT-D700 and, separately, the lower-priced NT-D500. The official pages describe features and catalog prices, but do not establish which model makes the best toast in a controlled comparison.
The prices below are figures on Japanese manufacturer pages, not live quotes or overseas prices. They can change. Check the exact model’s current specifications and local availability before buying.

What the BALMUDA tiers offer
BALMUDA The Toaster: steam tier
BALMUDA describes its standard model as using steam technology and lists it at ¥33,000 in Japan. That gives buyers a clear feature distinction from the maker’s steamless entry tier. The manufacturer’s description is not independent evidence that the appliance produces better-tasting toast. Consult BALMUDA’s Japanese specifications page for the model’s stated specifications.
BALMUDA The Toaster Pro: an added finishing mode
The Pro retains the standard Toaster’s features and adds a Salamander mode that BALMUDA describes as a finishing function. Its Japan-listed price is ¥38,500, ¥5,500 above the standard model on the same comparison page. The practical reason to pay more is the additional mode if you expect to use it; the available manufacturer information does not establish superior overall cooking performance.

BALMUDA’s steamless entry tier
BALMUDA lists this tier at ¥25,300 and describes it as steamless, with bread and fried-food reheating among its uses. How to read Panasonic’s two price points
Bistro NT-D700
Panasonic’s Japanese catalog lists the NT-D700 at ¥29,700 and dates its release to January 2021. The category page highlights Bistro toast features. That is enough to include it in a feature-based shortlist, but not to claim it outperforms the BALMUDA models or to compare its modes in detail without checking the complete product specifications.

NT-D500
Panasonic’s category page also lists the NT-D500 at ¥9,900, with an April 2026 release date. Its lower listed price makes it a useful Panasonic comparison point, but the cited material does not establish a like-for-like feature comparison with the NT-D700. Check Panasonic’s current product details to decide whether its functions suit your intended use.

Match the modes to your routine
- If steam technology is the feature you want, compare BALMUDA The Toaster’s official description and specification.
- If you want a dedicated finishing function, assess whether the Pro’s Salamander mode is useful enough to justify its higher Japan-listed price.
- If your priority is reheating as well as bread, BALMUDA describes its entry tier as suitable for fried-food reheating; confirm its complete supported functions before purchase.
- For Panasonic, review the exact NT-D700 or NT-D500 product specification rather than assuming the two models share the same capabilities.
Check countertop fit and usable capacity
Comparable footprint and capacity figures are not established by the cited comparison material. Before buying, use the official specification for the exact model and market version to check external dimensions, interior capacity and clearance around the appliance. Consider the size of the bread or dishes you actually plan to heat.
Rank #4
- PERFECTLY BROWNED: Choose from 7 different shade settings for the perfect amount of crunch for your toast.
- 3 COOKING MODES: Use the bagel function for that perfect crunchy-chewy ratio or defrost to add just enough time for crispy toaster waffles. LED indicator lights illuminate to highlight your chosen setting.
- BETTER BAGELS: Bagel mode toasts the cut side of your bagel and warms the outer crust; this setting is great for English muffins as well.
- SAFER TOASTING: This toaster’s anti-jam function turns off the appliance if any food gets caught or stuck inside; no more burnt toast.
- EASY-CLEANING: The removable crumb tray simply slides out to clean up crumbs and the sleek black toaster finish wipes up simply and looks classy on the countertop.
Confirm electrical and service compatibility
Japanese catalog listings do not establish that a model is suitable for use in another country. Before importing or buying outside Japan, confirm the voltage and plug requirements, local warranty and service coverage, and whether the seller is an authorized source. Do not assume a Japanese model will work safely or be supported in your location based only on its product name.
