Which rack fits your space and laundry?
Choose JÄLL for compact storage
JÄLL’s listed length and width are 31 in and 15¾ in, respectively, and IKEA says it folds flat. Those dimensions can make it easier to place in a smaller room or put away between uses. Measure both the area where you plan to open it and the space where you will store it; the listed product dimensions do not give the folded clearance you need in your particular cupboard or utility area.

Choose MULIG for more hanging room
MULIG’s two wings add hanging area, and its four hooks provide a place for smaller garments. Its stated dimensions are 173 × 57 × 103 cm, so check the full open footprint before placing it in a laundry room, bathroom or balcony. IKEA says it folds when not in use, but measure your storage spot against the product dimensions rather than assuming it will fit.

Add a separate hanger for small items
IKEA’s PRESSA is a 16-peg hanging dryer, not a replacement for a full rack. IKEA’s US July 2025 laundry catalogue lists green (905.791.57) and yellow (905.791.62) versions that hang indoors or outdoors and fold for storage. It can complement either rack when a load includes socks or other small items. Check the local IKEA listing for current availability.
Prices and availability depend on your market
Prices displayed on IKEA pages at the time they were accessed differed by country: IKEA US listed JÄLL at $11.99; IKEA Germany listed JÄLL at €8.99 and MULIG at €24.99; IKEA Sweden listed MULIG at 299 SEK. These are observations from different markets, not like-for-like comparisons or guaranteed current prices. IKEA Germany’s drying-rack category also lists JOSTEIN shelving configurations with drying racks. These combine storage and drying, but dimensions and prices vary by configuration; compare the exact setup rather than treating it as a direct price match for a standalone rack.

Where to place a drying rack
Both JÄLL and MULIG are designated for indoor and outdoor use on the cited IKEA pages. For indoor drying, IKEA recommends a balcony, an open window or another well-ventilated location, including in winter. Good airflow gives damp laundry a place to release moisture. The product pages do not establish how either rack performs under particular outdoor weather conditions, so their indoor/outdoor designation should not be read as an independent durability test.

IKEA’s category guidance says air-drying is gentler on clothes and can save energy, but the cited official material does not provide a quantified savings figure. The amount of energy avoided will depend on what appliance use, if any, air-drying replaces.
