Its fan does not refrigerate a room: Dyson explicitly describes it as a fan, “not air conditioning.” The HP09 adds a formaldehyde-focused catalytic filter, but independent testing reports similar overall performance in most scenarios and does not validate that formaldehyde claim.
These are combination appliances, not a proven ranking of the best air purifiers for every home. Compare their measured particle-cleaning results, noise, room fit and filter upkeep with your needs before choosing one.
What a hot-and-cool air purifier can—and cannot—do
A combination purifier can filter air while providing heater output or fan airflow. “Cool” refers to moving air, which can make people feel cooler; it does not mean the machine lowers the room’s air temperature like an air conditioner. Dyson states this distinction directly on the HP07 product page.
That makes this category useful when you value a single appliance for air filtration, supplemental heat and fan airflow. It is not a substitute for air conditioning during hot weather, and the combination feature alone does not establish how effectively a purifier will clean a particular room.

Best-supported all-season option: Dyson HP07
Dyson describes the HP07 as a purifying fan heater with automatic pollutant sensing, HEPA H13 filtration, heating, fan airflow and oscillation up to 350 degrees. It has ten speed settings. The listed dimensions are 30 inches high by 8.1 inches wide by 5.12 inches long, and its listed weight is 12.5 pounds. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.
Dyson states that its HEPA H13 filter has 99.95% removal efficiency down to 0.1 microns under its stated standard, and separately says the filters capture 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns. Those are manufacturer filtration claims about particles; they should not be read as a guarantee of the same removal rate throughout a room. Room-level performance depends on the appliance’s air cleaning output and operating conditions.
For the US model, Dyson says heater and temperature controls are not available in the myDyson app because of UL 1278 compliance; use the remote for those controls. Do not assume that app limitation applies to every market or model.
HP07 vs. HP09: what the comparison shows
The HP09’s principal distinction is its catalytic filter, which Dyson presents as addressing formaldehyde. RTINGS says the HP09 is a little more feature-rich and that the two models deliver similar overall performance in most scenarios. RTINGS also says it does not currently test formaldehyde absorption and cannot validate the claim. The filter’s intended function is therefore a manufacturer feature claim, not an independently confirmed advantage in that comparison.

Which model should you choose?
Choose the HP07 if you want the supported combination features
The HP07 is the straightforward choice if your priorities are a purifier, heater and fan in one unit and you do not specifically value the HP09’s formaldehyde-focused filter. The available comparison does not show the HP09 delivering better ordinary-particle performance overall.

Consider the HP09 if its formaldehyde-focused design matters to you
The HP09 may suit someone who wants the added catalytic filter, provided they understand the validation limit: RTINGS does not test formaldehyde absorption. Do not treat the feature as proof that the HP09 will outperform the HP07 for routine particle filtration.
Compare alternatives only with comparable evidence
TechRadar’s guide dated August 6, 2026 names the Shark 3-in-1 Air Purifier, Heater & Fan with NanoSeal HEPA as another combination product. The guide lists the HP09 at $769.99 / £699.99 / AU$1,149, but these are dated, region-specific guide prices rather than guaranteed current offers. The available information does not provide a fair head-to-head comparison establishing the Shark’s filtration performance, room fit, noise or ongoing filter cost against the Dyson models. Treat it as an alternative to investigate, not a ranked winner.

Filter upkeep and ownership checks
Dyson recommends replacing the HP07 HEPA+Carbon filter roughly every 12 months, depending on use; the appliance indicates when replacement is due. Check the exact model and filter assembly before buying a replacement, especially when comparing HP07 and HP09 consumables. Dyson’s HP09 user manual documents its HEPA+carbon and catalytic filter configuration, as well as remote operation and app connection.

How to make a sensible buying decision
- Decide whether you need heat, fan airflow or actual cooling. If you need refrigeration, a purifier with a fan is not a replacement for air conditioning.
- Match the purifier to the room and noise level you will use. Compare independent clean-air results at relevant operating speeds, not just a maximum-speed figure or a filter-media efficiency claim.
- Choose between the HP07 and HP09 based on the real distinction. The HP09 adds a formaldehyde-focused catalytic filter; the available comparison does not establish superior general particle cleaning.
- Check ongoing cost and local supply. Verify the correct replacement filter, current price and stock for your region before committing.
There is not enough comparable evidence here to name one combination purifier as best for every household or to rank the Dyson and Shark models across the market. The evidence supports the HP07 as a clearly specified all-in-one option and the HP09 as a feature step-up for buyers interested in its formaldehyde-focused design.
