A home steam press can make sense if you regularly press batches of clothing or broad items such as curtains and tablecloths. The right choice depends chiefly on pressing width, storage space, steam and temperature controls, and how confidently you can handle the machine—not on an independently established “best” model. The available product information documents SINGER presses in 20- and 36-inch widths and a Feiyue press offered in several listed widths, but it does not provide independent head-to-head performance testing.
What a home steam press does—and who it suits
A steam press brings fabric between a broad heated plate and a padded lower surface, pressing one section at a time. SINGER describes its presses for garments as well as curtains and tablecloths. Compared with a handheld iron, the wide plate is designed to cover more fabric per press, but a large appliance also needs a suitable place to operate and store it.

Choose a width you can use and store
Width is one of the most consequential choices: the documented SINGER examples span 20 and 36 inches, and 26-inch models are also referenced. A wider plate can cover more fabric at once, which may be useful for broad household textiles or repeated batches. It also calls for more storage and handling space. Measure the intended storage area and the surface where you would operate the press before settling on a width.

Do not treat surface-size comparisons as a standard across brands. SINGER’s 36-inch page calls its surface “10X larger than that of a standard iron,” while another claim on the page compares a 26-inch surface with a conventional iron and says ironing time may be reduced “by up to 50%.” These are SINGER’s promotional comparisons, not independently verified measurements, and the two statements use different comparison phrasing. If you want flexibility for different fabrics or tasks, check whether the model supports continuous steam, a burst of steam, dry pressing, or some combination. The 36-inch SINGER listing describes continuous and burst steam and use without steam; the 20-inch PROFESSIONAL page lists dry pressing and steam options. Do not assume one model’s controls or water instructions apply to another.

Tank size and refilling
The 36-inch SINGER and Feiyue pages each list a 1,000 ml tank. A tank’s capacity alone does not establish how long it will last: actual refill frequency depends on use and the machine’s operation. Check the manual for filling instructions and the manufacturer’s guidance on water.
Temperature controls and accessories
Clear fabric settings can help you choose a suitable heat level. The SINGER PROFESSIONAL 20-inch page lists five temperature settings; Feiyue lists five fabric settings; SINGER describes digital fabric controls on the 36-inch model. Check what is included with the exact configuration, especially if a pressing cushion or spray bottle matters to you.

Weight, stand, and shut-off
The SINGER 36-inch listing gives a weight of 38.5 lb (17.4 kg), a practical consideration if you need to move or put the press away after each use. SINGER describes a compatible universal stand for specified press families and widths, but compatibility should be confirmed by exact model. Auto shut-off is a useful listed feature on the SINGER presses discussed here; it does not remove burn or electrical hazards, and the listed feature alone does not establish the precise shut-off behavior.

Let the garment care label and the manual for your exact press determine the heat and steam settings. SINGER advises testing a small, inconspicuous area first. A SINGER Intelligent Pro manual says to select the fabric setting, begin with delicate fabrics, and warns that higher heat can damage nylon and silk. The 36-inch SINGER listing includes auto shut-off and heat-protection bumpers, but neither feature makes a hot press risk-free. Switch the press off and unplug it as directed by its current manual. An older SINGER manual describes heater behavior under particular idle conditions while noting that power remains on until the switch is turned off; that instruction applies to the model covered by that manual, not automatically to every press.
