Choose the De’Longhi HFX25S15L for a portable ceramic tower, the De’Longhi Dragon for gradual fanless heat, the Dyson HP07 for connected air purification plus supplemental heat, or the Pelonis CH1001 for close-range personal warmth.
These are zone-heating appliances, not substitutes for a home’s central heating system. Most plug-in electric heaters draw 750 to 1,500 watts and should be selected for the room, control method, and safety setup—not marketed as devices that heat an entire house.
This guide ranks the heaters by documented features and use case. It does not claim independent laboratory results for noise, room coverage, heating speed, or energy savings. Room-size statements from manufacturers should be treated as manufacturer claims rather than independently verified performance. The recommendations below are fit-based. The absence of a claim such as quietest, fastest, or most efficient is intentional: those rankings require comparable independent testing that is not part of the supplied evidence.
Best overall whole-room circulation: Vornado AVH10
The Vornado AVH10 is the strongest conventional choice for a living room, home office, or other occupied room where broad air circulation matters more than app control. Vornado’s 2025-generation model uses Vortex Action airflow, two heat settings, fan-only operation, electronic controls, and a digital display. It also has automatic climate control, a cool-touch housing, and automatic safety shutoff.
#1 Best Overall
- Powerful heat that fits everywhere: DREO space heaters for indoor combines Hyperamics 1500W advanced PTC system with a new heat funnel design to deliver heat within seconds and enhance warm air circulation for up to 200% farther reach than traditional heaters.
- Unbreakable safety:DREO goes beyond the unexpected to deliver peace of mind with every room heater. The innovative tilt-detection sensor improves accuracy and reliability for better tip-over protection, and built with V0 flame retardant materials, overheat protection, and safety plug, all certified by ETL.
- Ultimate temperature control: The enhanced NTC chipset brings more precision to turn your space heater with thermostat into a smart heating powerhouse, allowing you to set heat on a wider range from 41-95℉ with 1℉ increments, saving you energy while keeping you comfortable.
- Cozy quietness: No more choosing between quiet or warmth, DREO's heater for bedroom warms quietly thanks to its brushless DC motor with frictionless performance and a winglet fan design that reduces turbulence, reducing noise to only 34dB.
- Fits into your lifestyle: This portable heater handle makes it easier to carry and is equipped with multiple heating levels and modes to heat as you like (Power heat, ECO, Fan Only). It also features handy extras for a hassle-free experience (remote control, 12-hour timer, mute, child lock, and memory function).
Its most useful differentiator is Vornado’s thermistor-based Automatic Climate Control. According to the manufacturer, the heater reduces heat output and fan speed as the selected temperature is reached instead of simply alternating between full power and completely off. That design is intended to make room comfort steadier, but it should not be described as independently proven energy efficiency.
- Best fit: A room where you want warm air distributed through the space rather than aimed only at your legs or desk.
- Controls: Onboard electronic controls and display; no Wi-Fi or smartphone app.
- Useful extras: Fan-only mode, cool-touch housing, automatic shutoff, and a five-year satisfaction guarantee from Vornado.
- Limitation: It remains a supplemental heater. Do not treat it as a whole-home heating system.
Before buying or using any Vornado heater, check the exact model and date code against current recall information. Recent Vornado recalls involved other models, including SRTH tower heaters and certain VH2 units; that screening step matters even when a particular model is not named in those notices.
Best portable ceramic tower: De’Longhi HFX25S15L
The De’Longhi HFX25S15L is the best match for readers who want a portable ceramic tower with a remote, timer, oscillation, and thermostat without setting up a Wi-Fi appliance. It is a 1,500-watt ceramic heater intended for small spaces and personal comfort.
The feature list is unusually complete for a portable tower. It includes a digital thermostat, 24-hour timer, full-function remote, fan-only operation, ECO mode, oscillation, two-stage overheat protection, a thermal fuse, an internal tip-over switch, cool-touch handle and controls, and an anti-freeze standby mode that the manufacturer says activates below 41°F.
- Best fit: A bedroom, office, or small room where you want to adjust the heater from across the room.
- Why choose it over an oil-filled radiator: The fan-forced ceramic design provides faster, more directional warmth.
- Why choose it over a Wi-Fi model: It offers a remote and timer without depending on an app or wireless connection.
- Limitation: Fan-forced heat can be less appealing to sleepers or people who dislike moving air.
De’Longhi identifies this model as a Lowe’s-exclusive product, and its product page has shown a notification or availability state rather than a permanently in-stock purchase state. Check current Lowe’s and other authorized-retailer availability at publication; neither the listing status nor the price should be treated as permanent.
Best quiet, steady radiant heat: De’Longhi Dragon TRD40615EBK-6A
Choose the De’Longhi Dragon TRD40615EBK-6A when gradual, fanless heat is more important than rapid warm-up. This 1,500-watt oil-filled radiator uses a digital control panel, thermostat, 24-hour timer, ECO function, child lock, thermal cutoff, ergonomic handles, and SmartSnap wheels.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Oil-filled radiators are a good fit for a bedroom, reading room, or small- to medium-sized room that needs relatively steady comfort for several hours. Their fanless operation avoids the moving air associated with fan heaters and, according to De’Longhi, does not stir dust, pollen, or dander in the same way a fan-forced heater can.
- Best fit: People who prefer sustained, gradual warmth and no fan-driven airflow.
- Control features: Digital thermostat, timer, ECO function, and child lock.
- Portability: Handles and integrated wheels make it movable between rooms, although it still needs a clear, stable location while operating.
- Limitation: It is comparatively slow to change the room temperature and is not the best choice for instant heat directed at one person.
Fanless does not mean suitable for unattended overnight operation. Follow the heater’s instructions and the safety guidance below, including turning portable heaters off when sleeping or away from the room.
Best smart wall heater: Heat Storm HS-1500-PHX-WIFI
The Heat Storm HS-1500-PHX-WIFI is the clearest Wi-Fi-specific recommendation in this group. It is a 1,500-watt infrared wall heater with smartphone control, scheduling, a digital thermostat, child lock, dimmable display, ECO mode, tip-over shutoff, and a cool-touch grille, according to the manufacturer.
The wall-mounted format is useful in a bedroom, office, or small room where floor space is limited. Heat Storm lists 120-volt operation, 750- and 1,500-watt modes, a 6.25- to 12.5-amp range, and a 5,200-BTU rating. The unit is wall-mount-only, so it is not a conventional portable heater that can be moved from room to room.

- ETL-Certified Safety- Our customer service team will respond to your questions within 24 hours with a 30-day return and 12-month exchange guarantee for peace of mind.NOTE:ALWAYS PLUG HEATERS DIRECTLY INTO A WALL OUTLET/RECEPTACLE. NEVER USE WITH AN EXTENSION CORD OR RELOCATABLE POWER TAP (OUTLET/POWER STRIP)
- Best fit: A defined heating zone where remote scheduling and a clear floor are priorities.
- Smart features: Wi-Fi control, smartphone scheduling, thermostat control, and an ECO mode.
- Electrical reality: At full 1,500-watt output on a 120-volt circuit, the heater draws approximately 12.5 amps. That leaves little capacity on a typical 15-amp circuit for other substantial loads.
- Limitation: Wi-Fi makes control more convenient; it does not prove that the heater uses less electricity than another 1,500-watt resistive heater.
Do not use a smart plug as an automatic retrofit for this or another high-wattage heater. First follow both the heater and smart-plug manufacturer requirements, including wattage and amperage ratings. A remote switch must never be used to defeat the heater’s onboard thermostat or safety controls, and remote operation can allow a heater to run when nobody is present.
Best premium connected purifier-heater: Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool HP07
The Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool HP07 makes sense when air treatment is a primary goal and supplemental heat is an additional benefit. It combines heating, cooling airflow, air purification, remote control, voice-service compatibility, and MyDyson app control. It is not the value choice for someone who simply needs a basic room heater.
Dyson says the HP07 automatically senses and captures pollutants and uses a sealed HEPA H13 filtration system. The app supports temperature and fan control, and scheduling can be set for up to seven days. Dyson recommends replacing the combined HEPA and carbon filter approximately every 12 months or when the machine notifies you.
- Best fit: Buyers who want one connected appliance for supplemental heat, cooling airflow, and air purification.
- Connected features: MyDyson app control, remote control, voice-service compatibility, and multi-day scheduling.
- Maintenance: Budget for a Dyson HP07 replacement filter on approximately an annual cycle, subject to use and the machine’s notification.
- Limitations: It costs more, has more maintenance requirements, and should not be presented as equivalent to a dedicated HVAC filtration system.
The U.S. Dyson product page has shown the HP07 as out of stock, so verify current manufacturer or retailer inventory before presenting it as immediately available. Availability and price are especially volatile for this model.
Best compact personal heater: Pelonis CH1001
The Pelonis CH1001 is the practical choice for close-range warmth in a personal space, such as beside a desk or chair. Its compact ceramic design offers 700-, 900-, and 1,500-watt settings, an adjustable thermostat, fan-only mode, tip-over protection, overheat protection, cool-touch housing, and a molded handle.
The small footprint is its main advantage. It can provide personal heat without taking up the space of a tower or radiator, but the same compact format limits how broadly it should be marketed. A 1,500-watt setting describes electrical input, not proof that the heater can comfortably heat a large room.
- Best fit: Under-desk or close-range personal warmth.
- Controls: Three power levels, adjustable thermostat, and fan-only mode.
- Safety features: Tip-over protection, overheat protection, and cool-touch housing.
- Limitation: Not a whole-room or whole-home solution.
How to choose the right heater technology
Ceramic fan heaters
Ceramic heaters use a fan to move air across a heated element. They are generally the most useful format when you want quick, directional warmth in a small room or near a person. Oscillation can spread the airflow across a wider area, while fan-only mode can provide air movement without heat.
The trade-offs are moving air and fan noise. Do not label a model the quietest without comparable testing, and do not assume that a ceramic heater’s ECO setting guarantees lower operating costs.
Oil-filled radiators
Oil-filled radiators are fanless and gradual. They suit rooms where steady comfort matters more than instant heat, especially when the heater will remain in one location for a period of time. The De’Longhi Dragon is the example in this guide.
The trade-off is response time. A radiator is portable, but it is not the right tool when you need immediate directional warmth or frequent room-to-room movement.

Infrared heaters
Infrared models are often used for zone heating and can be mounted on a wall, making them useful where floor space is restricted. The Heat Storm is an example with Wi-Fi control and wall mounting.
Keep efficiency claims in context. Infrared technology and an ECO mode do not, by themselves, establish lower electricity consumption. Actual consumption depends on wattage, runtime, thermostat cycling, room conditions, and the electricity rate.
Whole-room air-circulating heaters
A whole-room circulation design focuses on distributing warm air through the room’s airflow pattern rather than simply blowing heat at one spot. Vornado’s AVH10 uses Vortex Action and Automatic Climate Control, but it is still a manually controlled heater rather than a smart-home device.
Purifier-heater combinations
A purifier-heater combination is worth considering only when air purification is an important part of the purchase. These appliances are typically more expensive than ordinary space heaters and add filter replacement to the ownership cost. They also should not be treated as replacements for a home’s HVAC system or as proof that every indoor pollutant has been removed.
Room size, wattage, and electricity use
Do not choose a heater solely because the box lists a large room size. Manufacturer room-size figures are not independent performance tests, and a portable plug-in heater is still limited by its electrical input and the room’s insulation, drafts, ceiling height, and heat loss.
Most units in this guide top out at 1,500 watts. At full power, a 1,500-watt heater uses approximately 1.5 kilowatt-hours per hour; a 750-watt setting uses approximately 0.75 kilowatt-hours per hour. For example, four hours at full 1,500-watt output equals about 6 kilowatt-hours before thermostat cycling. To estimate operating cost, multiply kilowatt-hours by your electricity rate.

A thermostat may reduce runtime by cycling the heating element, and an ECO mode may alter how the appliance operates. Neither feature is enough to support a blanket claim that one resistive electric heater is energy efficient. Compare the actual wattage, runtime, target temperature, and local electricity rate.
Smart-home controls: what they do—and what they do not do
There are three different levels of convenience that are often lumped together as smart heating:
- Manual controls: Buttons or dials on the appliance, as on the Vornado AVH10.
- Remote control: A handheld remote and timer, as on the De’Longhi HFX25S15L.
- Connected control: Wi-Fi, app scheduling, or voice-service integration, as on the Heat Storm and Dyson HP07.
Connected control is useful for scheduling and temperature adjustments, but it does not make a heater safe to leave running while you are asleep or away. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s advice to turn portable heaters off when sleeping or unattended.
Do not buy a recalled heater because its app features are attractive. In particular, the Govee smart space-heater models listed in the recall section below should not be recommended or used simply because they offer wireless control.

Portable-heater safety checklist
Safety should determine the installation and daily use of a portable heater as much as its heat output does.
- Keep at least three feet of clearance. Place the heater at least three feet from bedding, curtains, furniture, clothing, and other combustible materials.
- Use a wall outlet. Plug an electric heater directly into a wall outlet. Do not use an extension cord or power strip.
- Use a stable, level surface. Keep a portable heater where it cannot easily be knocked over, and use its tip-over protection as a backup—not as permission to place it precariously.
- Turn it off when sleeping or unattended. App control, timers, thermostats, tip-over switches, and overheat protection do not change this basic precaution.
- Respect the circuit. A 1,500-watt heater can draw about 12.5 amps at 120 volts. Avoid combining it with other high-load appliances on a circuit that cannot support the total load.
- Keep controls and airflow clear. Never cover the heater or block its intake and exhaust. Follow the clearance and placement instructions for the specific model.
- Use child locks where provided. A child lock helps prevent control changes, but it does not replace physical clearance from children and pets.
- Check recalls before purchase and use. Model numbers and date codes matter; a brand-level safety assumption is not enough.
Important 2024–2026 recall warnings
These notices do not mean every Vornado heater or every connected heater is recalled. They do mean that buyers should verify the exact model and, where applicable, date code. Product features and safety shutoffs are not substitutes for recall screening.
Electric indoor heaters versus fuel-burning portable heaters
The products in the main rankings are electric indoor space heaters. Fuel-burning portable heaters are a different category with different installation and ventilation risks.
CPSC warns about carbon-monoxide hazards from portable fuel-burning heaters. Outdoor heaters, grills, and generators must not be used indoors. Do not bring construction-site fuel-burning equipment into an enclosed room simply because the room needs heat. Use only equipment specifically approved for the environment, follow its ventilation and clearance requirements, and comply with applicable electrical, fire, and building rules.

Alarms are an important layer of protection, but they do not make unsafe heater placement or indoor use acceptable.
For renovations, workshops, and construction sites
A household space heater is not automatically a jobsite heater. Active construction areas may involve dust, moisture, temporary wiring, combustible materials, traffic, and circuits shared with power tools. Those conditions can change whether a consumer heater is appropriate.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a 1,500-watt portable heater heat an entire house?
Usually no. A 1,500-watt plug-in heater is best treated as a supplemental zone-heating appliance for one room or personal area. Whole-home heating requires a properly sized central or distributed heating system.
Is it safe to leave a portable heater on overnight?
The CPSC advises turning portable heaters off while sleeping or unattended. Built-in thermostats, timers, tip-over switches, and overheat protection do not justify ignoring that guidance.
Does a Wi-Fi heater use less electricity?
Not automatically. Wi-Fi adds remote control and scheduling. A 1,500-watt resistive heater still draws substantial power at full output; actual consumption depends on wattage, runtime, thermostat cycling, room heat loss, and the electricity rate.
Can I plug a space heater into an extension cord or power strip?
No. CPSC advises plugging electric heaters directly into a wall outlet. A 1,500-watt heater can draw approximately 12.5 amps at 120 volts, so circuit capacity also matters.
Which heater is best for a bedroom?
The De’Longhi Dragon is the better fit if you prefer gradual, fanless heat. The De’Longhi HFX25S15L is more suitable if you want faster fan-forced warmth, a remote, oscillation, and a timer. Either must be placed with proper clearance and turned off while sleeping.
How often does the Dyson HP07 filter need replacement?
Dyson recommends replacing the combined HEPA and carbon filter approximately every 12 months or when the machine notifies you. Actual timing depends on use, so budget for replacement as part of ownership.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Pick the Vornado AVH10 for conventional whole-room circulation, the De’Longhi HFX25S15L for portable ceramic features, or the De’Longhi Dragon for gradual fanless warmth. Choose the Heat Storm HS-1500-PHX-WIFI only when genuine Wi-Fi scheduling and wall mounting solve a real need. The Dyson HP07 is a premium connected purifier-heater, not a value space heater. Whatever you buy, treat it as supplemental zone heat, check recalls, plug it directly into a wall outlet, maintain three feet of clearance, and turn it off when sleeping or unattended.
