A split king describes the mattress and base arrangement; it does not establish that a particular headboard or bracket will fit. Start by identifying your adjustable base’s brand and model, then check its manual or ask the manufacturer which attachment methods it supports.

Depending on the manufacturer, fit may depend on the base series, size, serial number, or bracket version. Also confirm that the headboard itself accepts the bracket’s mounting hardware.
- Brand and model: Use the product label, manual, or manufacturer support to identify the exact base.
- Size and configuration: Confirm that the kit supports your size, including Split King where applicable.
- Mounting points: Check whether the base has the fittings needed for a headboard bracket.
- Serial number and bracket version: Follow any model-year, serial-number, or accessory-version restrictions in the manufacturer’s documentation.
- Headboard hardware: Compare the bracket’s mounting arrangement with the headboard’s attachment points.
Manufacturer listings illustrate why a generic compatibility claim is not enough. GhostBed’s steel headboard bracket kit is listed in a Split King size and includes hardware, with adjustments for width, height, and distance from the wall. That listing does not establish that the kit fits another brand’s base. Mattress Makers USA asks shoppers to select a bracket by base model and size and says brackets are sold separately from the base and headboard.

Restrictions can be narrower still. Sleep Science specifies compatibility with its Q Series and Q Plus Series bases for certain sizes and serial numbers beginning at 2006 or greater, and lists excluded model numbers. Treat that as an example of model-specific fit, not a rule for other bases. Tempur-Pedic’s accessory information distinguishes two bracket versions and notes different compatibility by bed size. Nolah says its headboard brackets are available by special order with its adjustable base.
When a surrounding bed frame is the better route
If you want a coordinated frame and headboard, or your adjustable base cannot accept a bracket, placing the base inside a surrounding frame may work. Check the dimensions and construction of both products, including whether the frame has a removable platform. Confirm with the base maker and frame seller that the specific combination leaves room for articulation; guidance for one maker’s base does not prove another setup will fit.

Keep frame components clear of the moving base and mattress. A frame that looks wide enough while the bed is flat may still interfere when the head or foot section rises.
When to choose a wall-mounted or leaning headboard
A wall-mounted or leaning headboard avoids relying on a bracket attached to the base. It can be a practical alternative when the base has no compatible mounting points, or when you prefer not to attach the headboard to the bed. Installation and stability depend on the headboard, wall, and room, so assess the actual setup rather than assuming every model will work.

Leesa recommends wall-mounted or leaning headboards for its platform bed, which cannot attach to a headboard. That is guidance for Leesa’s product; it does not establish compatibility for every adjustable-bed arrangement.
Choose proportions and materials for the room
Once the attachment route is confirmed, compare the headboard’s width, height, material, and overall style with the bed and room. These are design considerations, not compatibility guarantees.

- Width: Compare the headboard’s stated width with the bed configuration and surrounding frame. Do not assume that “king” or “split king” labels alone confirm a fit.

The mattress must raise and lower without catching on or pressing into the headboard. Tempur-Pedic’s guidance is: “Always make sure there is enough clearance to raise and lower your mattress without catching to prevent damage.” The manufacturer does not give a universal numerical gap, so follow the instructions for your specific base and headboard rather than relying on a standard measurement.
- Install the headboard or position the bed frame according to the relevant product instructions.
- With the bed unoccupied, operate the base through its full range of motion.
- Watch the mattress and headboard as the sections move; confirm they do not snag, press together, or obstruct one another.
- If anything catches or contacts the headboard, stop using that position and adjust the setup or consult the manufacturers.
What split king dimensions do—and do not—tell you
One manufacturer’s manual describes its Split King as two sections, each 37.5 in. wide by 79.5 in. long. Those dimensions apply to the base documented in that manual, not to every split king adjustable bed. Use your own base and mattress specifications when checking the surrounding frame or headboard proportions.
