The right choice depends on whether you need a portable or hardwired unit, standard convector or liquid-filled hydronic construction, and whether its voltage, wattage, length, controls and installation requirements suit your space. Fahrenheat’s PLF hydronic line retains heat after its thermostat switches off, but that feature alone does not establish lower electricity use.
Compare the Fahrenheat heater types
| Type and example | Installation and construction | Documented specifications and features | Best fit to consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard hardwired convector: F2500 | Hardwired, fan-free baseboard convector. | Marley describes a built-in thermal cut-off that disconnects power if it detects an unnecessarily high temperature. The product page links to installation, wiring and sales documents. Manufacturer product information. | Consider when a permanently installed, standard convector is appropriate and the home’s wiring and installation conditions support the exact model. |
| Liquid-filled hydronic: PLF; retail example PLF1504 | Hardwired; a sheathed electric element is partly immersed in heat-transfer liquid sealed in a copper tube running the heater’s length. | Marley says the heater continues radiating after the thermostat turns off as the element retains heat, and describes an automatic overheat cutoff. The Home Depot lists the PLF1504 at 70 inches and 1,500 watts; these are listing specifications, not a performance ranking. Manufacturer PLF information; Home Depot PLF1504 listing. | Consider when you want a hardwired hydronic model and its exact electrical and physical requirements fit the project. |
| Portable: FBE15002 | Plug-in portable heater; not a hardwired baseboard installation. | Marley specifies 120 volts; selectable 1,000/1,500 watts; 8.3/12.5 amps; and 3,413/5,120 BTU/h. It has a built-in thermostat and thermal cutout. The manufacturer page lists a two-year limited warranty; check the current manual for terms. Manufacturer FBE15002 information. | Consider when portability and a standard 120-volt plug-in unit are priorities, subject to the manual and the capacity of the outlet and circuit. |
What “efficient” does—and does not—mean here
The manufacturer describes the PLF’s liquid-filled construction and continued heat radiation after thermostat shutoff. That indicates a different thermal response, not proof that it consumes less electricity than a standard convector delivering the same heat. The reviewed product information does not provide independent comparative energy tests, typical operating costs, or evidence that one Fahrenheat type uses less electricity for the same heat output.
Marley also makes broad efficiency statements for the FBE15002. Treat those as manufacturer claims, not third-party test results. The FBE’s wattage and BTU/h figures are product specifications, not a ranking of operating efficiency.
How to choose a model for your project
- Choose the installation type. Decide whether the need is a plug-in portable heater or a permanently installed hardwired unit. Do not treat them as interchangeable.
- Match the electrical requirements. Check the exact model’s voltage, wattage, amperage, wiring method and circuit requirements against the home and the installation instructions. The FBE15002’s 120-volt specification does not apply to the hardwired models.
- Check physical fit. Compare the heater’s documented length and clearances with the available wall space and the exact installation instructions. The PLF1504’s listed 70-inch length is specific to that model, not every PLF heater.
- Select construction and controls. Choose between a standard convector and liquid-filled hydronic model, then confirm the thermostat and control arrangement needed for the exact unit.
- Size for the room, not wattage alone. Do not infer a room-size rating from wattage alone. A suitable heater depends on the building’s heat-loss requirements; the reviewed product pages do not establish room-specific sizing tables or a universal sizing rule.
- Use the model-specific instructions. Marley links product documentation for the F2500; consult the exact model’s current installation and wiring instructions and follow applicable local requirements. Product-page descriptions are not an installation assessment.
- Verify the listing before buying. Retailer assortments and listing details can change. Confirm current inventory and the precise model’s specifications at purchase rather than assuming a category page or older listing reflects present availability.
Safety features and installation cautions
The F2500 and PLF product descriptions identify thermal or overheat cutoffs. These are protective features, not substitutes for correct installation and operation. Follow the exact unit’s manual, including its wiring, placement and clearance requirements. For a hardwired heater, use a qualified professional where required by local code or where the electrical work is outside your competence.

Replacing or identifying an older model
Cadet’s cross-reference lists Fahrenheat PLF and F254 model numbers alongside Cadet alternatives. Use it as an identification aid only: a cross-reference does not establish that a replacement heater, wiring, controls or installation is directly interchangeable. Confirm the existing heater’s nameplate and the replacement’s exact installation requirements before making a substitution. Cadet replacement guide.

Where to check models and availability
Marley’s product pages are the primary source for F2500, PLF and FBE15002 product information and linked documentation. Retail pages can help confirm a specific listing, but prices, stock and assortment may change. Check the exact model number and current specifications at the point of purchase; the PLF1504 listing cited above is a retailer example, not a claim of current stock or price.
