Google Nest Doorbell (wired, 3rd gen) is the best overall choice if you want the deepest Google Home integration, reliable access to your camera on Nest displays, and the fewest compatibility surprises. Choose the Nest Doorbell (battery) when wiring is unavailable, Arlo Video Doorbell for the strongest non-Nest alternative, and eufy when local storage and avoiding a recurring cloud fee matter more than native Google controls.
The important distinction is that “supports Google Assistant” can mean anything from simply casting live video to a Nest Hub to providing doorbell announcements, motion alerts, Google Home automations, and full app integration. Those are not equivalent.

What “Google Assistant support” really means
Before comparing hardware, separate Google compatibility into four levels:
#1 Best Overall
- Meet the wired Nest Doorbell; with 2K HDR video and Gemini, it knows what’s at your door and and what to do next (Gemini features require a Google Home premium subscription; try it for 1 month at no cost to you)[4]
- No need to recharge or replace batteries; the Nest Doorbell keeps you plugged into home, day and night
- The Nest Doorbell keeps your data safe with encrypted video, two-step verification, and enhanced security through your Google Account; and a green LED light lets you know when it’s processing or streaming video
- With an Advanced subscription to Google Home Premium, know more about what’s happening with notifications like “Person with flowers”[3]; get even more detailed descriptions and tap to see a summary of what happened[3]
- Video is crisp and clear in 2K HDR, the Nest Doorbell’s highest resolution yet[1,2]; see rich color and details, see in the dark with night vision, and see the bigger picture with an expanded 166° field of view[1]
- Live video casting: you can ask Google to show the front door on a Nest Hub, Chromecast-compatible device, or supported TV.
- Doorbell-press announcements: a Google speaker or display announces that someone pressed the button.
- Motion and object announcements: the system can announce people, packages, animals, vehicles, or other events. This often depends on the exact model and subscription.
- Native Google Home controls: the doorbell appears in Google Home, exposes settings and history there, supports relevant automations, and works with Google’s camera features.
A “Works with Google Home” badge does not guarantee all four. For example, eufy’s compatibility documentation mainly identifies live streaming for its video doorbells, while Arlo documents doorbell-press announcements but specifically excludes motion announcements for its Video Doorbell.
1. Best overall: Google Nest Doorbell (wired, 3rd gen)
The Nest Doorbell (wired, 3rd gen) is the clearest recommendation for a Google-first household. It is a first-party Google device designed for the Google Home ecosystem, so it is less likely than a third-party model to leave important settings, event history, or notifications in a separate app.
It is the best fit if you already use Nest Hub displays and Google speakers, want the most native Google Home experience, and have suitable doorbell wiring. Wired power is also the better choice for a busy entrance or any household that values longer video history and continuous recording. Google identifies 24/7 video history as a feature for wired Google Nest cameras and doorbells rather than battery models; the exact retention and advanced detection features depend on the applicable Google Home Premium plan.
Check the transformer and wiring before ordering. Existing doorbell wires are not automatically compatible, and installation requirements vary by home. Google provides installation guidance through its Nest installation resources.
Choose it when: Google Home is your primary smart-home platform and you want the fewest integration compromises.
Do not choose it when: you cannot verify compatible wiring, require local-only recording, or do not want a Google account and Google’s cloud-storage model.

2. Best battery option: Google Nest Doorbell (battery)
The Nest Doorbell (battery) is the simplest Google-native option for homes without dependable wiring, renters, and locations where running a new cable is impractical. Google’s US Store listing showed a price of $179.99 during the research period; treat that as a dated price observation, not a permanent price.
The trade-off is recording behavior. Google states that live video from battery-powered Nest cameras and doorbells stops after five minutes. Battery models also do not provide the same continuous-recording path as wired Nest devices. Cold weather, frequent activity, and weak Wi-Fi can increase charging and maintenance demands.
The battery model requires the Google Home app and a free Google Account and is not compatible with the Nest app or Nest website. It may use existing wiring for charging, but that does not make it equivalent to a fully wired model.
Choose it when: easy installation and Google-native control matter more than continuous recording.
3. Best non-Nest alternative: Arlo Video Doorbell
Arlo is the strongest non-Google brand in this shortlist for buyers who want documented Google Home compatibility, a choice of wired or wire-free hardware, and access to Arlo’s wider camera ecosystem. Arlo lists the Arlo Video Doorbell models compatible with Google Home, including the current Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) and Essential Video Doorbell Wire-Free, depending on market and installation requirements.
Arlo supports live streaming to compatible Google displays and doorbell-press announcements. However, Arlo’s current support documentation says the Arlo Video Doorbell does not support Google Home voice announcements for motion detection. That means a visitor pressing the button can be announced, while a person or package detected without a press should not be assumed to trigger a Google speaker announcement.

Arlo also has a practical display-compatibility catch: some Google devices do not support the doorbell’s default 1536 × 1536 stream. If the feed fails to render, Arlo’s manual says the doorbell may need to be set to 1080p or 720p.
Choose it when: you want a mature non-Nest ecosystem, wire-free options, or existing Arlo cameras.
Do not choose it when: Google speaker announcements for motion, people, and packages are essential.

eufy is the better direction for shoppers who prioritize local recording and want to reduce dependence on a recurring cloud subscription. Relevant families include the eufy Video Doorbell E340/Dual and supported C-series models such as the C30 and C31. Storage, hub requirements, chime behavior, and feature availability differ by exact SKU and bundle.
eufy’s compatibility table describes Google Assistant support primarily as livestream. That makes eufy Google-compatible, but not Google-native: expect to use the eufy Security app for many settings, history controls, and advanced features. Do not infer that a live feed means a Google Nest speaker will announce every press or motion event.
For the C30/C31, eufy confirms Google Assistant and Chromecast streaming but says a Google Home Mini is not supported as the chime. eufy’s compatibility documentation has also contained model and platform-specific limitations involving Google TV, so verify the exact doorbell and display combination before buying.

- 2K HD Full Head-to-Toe View: With a 170° ultra wide angle and 9:16 vertical view, the AOSU doorbell camera provides a complete head-to-toe view of your doorstep. Its clear 2K video helps you stay aware of who’s at your door, and clearly see visitors and packages with improved detail.
- Smart Human Detection: Advanced Person Detection features in video doorbell help reduce alerts triggered by animals, shadows, or moving objects, so notifications stay focused on actual visitors.
- Two-Way Audio With Preset Replies & Voice Changer: This door camera supports real-time two-way audio communication with visitors. Pre-set quick replies help you respond when you're busy or away, while a built-in voice changer helps protect your privacy during conversations.
- Smart Home Integration: Connect the doorbell camera wireless with Alexa or Google Assistant for hands-free control and real-time alerts. Enhance your home security ecosystem with ease.
- Flexible Local & Cloud Storage: This smart doorbell supports event-based recording to the storage option that fits your needs. Save footage locally with a microSD card (up to 128GB, sold separately) or back up recordings with optional cloud storage. Connect through 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network (No 5G support).
“Subscription-free” should be read carefully. A model may record locally, while cloud backup, advanced detection, or other features still depend on the model, HomeBase, app, or optional service.
Choose it when: local storage and avoiding a monthly cloud fee are more important than deep Google Home controls.

Wired or battery: which should you buy?
Choose wired when reliability matters
- No routine charging or battery replacement.
- Better suited to high-traffic entrances.
- More appropriate if continuous or extended video history matters.
- Usually the better choice for a permanent home installation.
Confirm transformer voltage, wiring condition, weather exposure, and whether your existing mechanical chime is compatible. A doorbell that is “wired” in a product listing may still require a particular transformer or chime configuration.
Choose battery when installation is the constraint
- Useful where no wiring exists.
- Often easier for renters and outbuildings.
- Can avoid electrical work.
- Requires charging and may be affected by cold weather or frequent events.
Battery models can also have shorter live-view sessions and may require a dedicated indoor chime. Never assume Google speakers replace the supplied chime.

Best Value
- The Nest Doorbell has built-in intelligence and can tell the difference between a person, package, animal, and vehicles and send you an alert in the Google Home app[1], no subscription required
- Easily check in from anywhere 24/7 with live HD video with HDR and night vision[1]; see what you missed with 3 hours of free event video history[2]; or add a Nest Aware subscription (sold separately) for up to 60 days of event video history[3]
- If your Wi-Fi goes down or there’s a power outage, the Nest Doorbell will store up to 1 hour of recorded events so you can see what you missed[4]
- The Nest Doorbell is easy to install wired or wire-free; the built-in battery means it works with any door, or connect it to your existing doorbell wires with the included wire connector
- Whether you choose battery or wired installation, the battery-powered Nest Doorbell cannot continuously record 24/7 video history, even with a Nest Aware subscription
- Nest: Google Home Premium can expand video history and enable additional camera features. Google says 24/7 history is for wired Nest cameras and doorbells. Plan prices and feature tiers can change, so check Google’s current feature documentation before publication or purchase.
- Arlo: cloud recording, advanced alerts, and detection features can depend on Arlo Secure and the exact model. Check the current plan requirements rather than assuming every feature is included.
- eufy: selected models offer local storage, sometimes through HomeBase or a compatible chime. Confirm whether the exact bundle includes the storage device and whether cloud backup or advanced detection is optional.
For a subscription-averse buyer, eufy can offer the most attractive architecture. For a Google-first buyer, Nest’s tighter integration may justify accepting cloud dependence.
How to connect a third-party doorbell to Google Home
- Set up the doorbell completely in the manufacturer’s app first.
- Open the Google Home app.
- Open the account or profile area and choose the option to add or set up a device.
- Select the manufacturer’s service, sign in, and authorize access.
- Assign the doorbell to the correct Google Home structure and room.
- Test live streaming on the intended Nest Hub, Chromecast, or supported TV.
Google’s third-party device setup guidance notes that labels can vary. Arlo’s older manual describes linking through Google Assistant with Set up Device and Have something already set up?; the current Google Home app may present those options differently. eufy’s setup guidance similarly requires linking the eufy account and authorizing it in Google Home.
Example commands for a supported Arlo setup include “Hey Google, show front door on Nest Hub” and “Hey Google, stop Nest Hub.” Use the exact room and display names assigned in Google Home.

Troubleshooting Google Home doorbell problems
The doorbell appears in Google Home but will not stream
- Confirm the manufacturer account is still linked and authorized.
- Update the doorbell, manufacturer app, Google Home app, and display firmware.
- Check that the doorbell is online and the display is connected to the same home network.
- Use a simple, unique room name and repeat the voice command.
- Check whether the display supports that model’s video format.
- For Arlo, try changing the stream from 1536 × 1536 to 1080p or 720p.
- For eufy, verify that the exact model—not merely the product family—supports the intended display.
The phone receives a ring notification but the Google speaker is silent
- Check whether the model supports Google doorbell-press announcements rather than only live streaming.
- Confirm Google Home household members, notification permissions, and speaker volume.
- Check the doorbell’s chime and notification settings in its manufacturer app.
- Do not assume motion announcements are supported. Arlo explicitly excludes them for its Video Doorbell.
- Verify that a separate physical chime or hub is not required.
The live stream stops unexpectedly
Google documents a five-minute live-stream limit for battery-powered Nest cameras and doorbells. Battery models from other manufacturers may also impose their own limits. A timeout is not necessarily a network failure.
Privacy and account considerations
Nest requires a Google Account, and Google describes features such as two-step verification and encrypted video on its Nest doorbell pages. Those are manufacturer statements, not an independent security certification. Review account recovery, household sharing, camera permissions, and notification access before installation.
Also consider where video is processed and stored. Nest and Arlo depend substantially on cloud services for their normal experience. eufy can offer local storage on selected models, but the app, optional cloud features, and some detection functions may still require vendor services. No internet-connected doorbell should be treated as independent of its manufacturer’s long-term support.
Which doorbell should you buy?
- Google-first household with compatible wiring: Nest Doorbell (wired, 3rd gen).
- No usable wiring: Nest Doorbell (battery), provided the five-minute live-view and charging trade-offs are acceptable.
- Best non-Nest ecosystem: Arlo Video Doorbell, especially if you need a wire-free option or already own Arlo cameras.
- Subscription-averse buyer: a supported eufy model with confirmed local storage and the required HomeBase or chime.
- Reliable Google speaker announcements: start with Nest; Arlo is viable for button-press announcements but not motion announcements.
- Continuous recording: choose a compatible wired model, particularly the wired Nest option, rather than a battery doorbell.
The safest buying rule is simple: verify the exact model’s support page for the exact Google display and event you care about. Live video, button-press announcements, motion alerts, chimes, automations, and storage are separate capabilities.
