Bosch does not publish a head-to-head test showing that either is the best overall. The right choice depends on your Bosch model, cycle, water hardness and drying needs; check the manual for your exact model before settling on a detergent.
What detergent to use in a Bosch dishwasher?
Bosch’s US detergent guide lists FINISH Quantum and FINISH Powerball Tabs. Bosch describes Quantum as helping with tough residue and Powerball as including a presoaking agent and rinse aid, but it does not rank one above the other or provide comparative test results. Treat both as Bosch-listed options, not proven winners. Bosch’s detergent guide also discusses powder and liquid detergent.

Tabs are convenient because they need no measuring, but cycle length matters: on some shorter cycles, a tablet may not dissolve fully. Bosch’s SHP65CM5N manual warns that undissolved detergent can leave residue and reduce effectiveness. Where do I put a dishwasher tablet?
Put the tablet in the dry detergent dispenser on the inside of the door, rather than loose on the dishwasher floor. Bosch explains: “A dishwasher tablet goes in the detergent compartment on the inside of the dishwasher door – the same place you put powder or liquid detergent.” The dispenser releases detergent at the programme’s intended time. Model-specific tablet instructions
In the SHP65CM5N manual example, Bosch instructs users to put detergent into the dry dispenser and says one tablet is enough; insert it horizontally. Do not assume that dosage or positioning instructions apply to every Bosch model—use your own manual.
When powder may be a better fit
For SHP65CM5N, Bosch recommends powder on shorter cycles because a tablet may not dissolve completely. The manual gives 1.5–1.75 tablespoons (20–25 ml) as sufficient for normally soiled dishes on this model, with slightly less for lightly soiled loads. These are operating instructions for SHP65CM5N, not a universal Bosch dosage; follow your model’s manual and the detergent label.

Do I need dishwasher salt if I use tablets?
Not necessarily. An all-in-one tablet does not settle the salt question: Bosch ties salt use to your local water hardness and your dishwasher’s settings. Hard water calls for dishwasher salt to support cleaning and help prevent limescale; soft-water households typically do not need it. Check your model manual and water-hardness information from your water bill or local water service. Bosch also suggests using a water-hardness test strip. Should you add rinse aid separately?
Bosch says separately added rinse aid can work better than relying on the rinse-aid component in a combination detergent. If drying results need improvement, consult your model manual about rinse-aid use and settings. What not to put in a Bosch dishwasher
Use detergent made for dishwashers. Do not use hand dish soap: Bosch warns that it creates excess foam and can damage the appliance. Bosch detergent guidance
