For a shower, choose a clear sealant labeled 100% silicone and specifically intended for kitchen-and-bath, tub-and-tile, or sanitary use. No independent head-to-head test here establishes one universally best brand; the practical choice depends on the exact surfaces, the joint’s movement, and the product’s water-ready instructions and mold-resistance claim.
What makes a clear silicone suitable for a shower?
Clear color by itself does not mean a sealant is suitable for a wet area. Check that the product is 100% silicone and that its label identifies kitchen-and-bath, tub-and-tile, or sanitary use. Then confirm it is compatible with the specific materials in your shower and follow its current package directions.

How to choose the right product for your shower
1. Match the sealant to the surfaces
Check the package or technical data sheet for the exact materials in your joint—such as tile, glass, metal, acrylic, or fiberglass. Compatibility is product-specific, so do not assume a sealant works on every shower surface. If the label does not answer the question, ask the manufacturer before applying it.
Sika UK says Sika Forever can be used on plastic or acrylic when surfaces are clean and suggests light abrasion for better adhesion. That advice applies to this UK product; follow its own preparation directions rather than transferring them to other sealants.

2. Consider movement at the joint
Movement specifications can help when comparing sealants for joints that flex or shift. GE lists 35% joint movement for Advanced Silicone 2 Kitchen & Bath and 50% for Supreme Silicone Kitchen & Bath. Sika UK lists 25% movement capability for Sika Forever according to EN 15651-1. These are manufacturer-published product specifications in their stated contexts, not a direct independent performance ranking.
3. Read mold claims as product-specific claims
Manufacturers use different language and bases for mold-related claims. DAP states a 20-year mold and mildew-free guarantee for Silicone Max; GE lists mold-free protections of 7 years, 10 years, or lifetime for the different products in its resource; Sika UK describes 10-year resistance to mould growth and discolouration under simulated ageing. Those statements are not directly comparable measures of real-world service life. Read the applicable product terms and do not treat a protection period or simulated-ageing claim as a promise that a shower joint can never discolor or need replacement.

4. Use the exact water-ready time for your formula
“Water-ready” is the manufacturer’s stated time before water exposure under its instructions; it is not a universal full-cure time. DAP gives Silicone Max a 30-minute shower-ready claim and its standard 100% bath silicone a 12-hour water-ready claim. GE lists 30-minute timing for Supreme Silicone and same-day timing for Tub & Tile Silicone 1. Sika UK says to wait 24 hours before using the bath or shower with Sika Forever. Follow the instructions for the exact product and conditions instead of transferring a time from another formula. These timings are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements.

- Check the format. A cartridge may require a standard caulk gun. A squeeze tube does not require one.
