This is a retrospective guide to baby monitors recommended in 2023. Prices, availability, subscriptions, apps, firmware and support may have changed since then, so verify the exact model before buying. The right choice depends less on a single “best” monitor than on whether your household needs a Wi-Fi smart camera, a local non-Wi-Fi system, or wearable sleep data.
A baby monitor is an observation and alert tool—not a substitute for safe-sleep practices, direct supervision or medical care.

The original 2023 roundup from Gizmochina ranked Nanit Pro first, followed by eufy SpaceView E110, Wyze Cam Pan v2, Owlet Dream Duo and Miku Pro. That ranking was an editorial roundup rather than a transparently documented laboratory comparison, so the recommendations below separate unlike products by use case.
Best premium smart monitor: Nanit Pro
The Nanit Pro was the leading choice in the 2023 coverage for parents who wanted a polished app-based ecosystem. Its stated features included 1080p video, overhead viewing, cry and motion alerts, sound detection, sleep tracking, optional breathing-motion monitoring, developmental milestone capture, split-screen support and floor-stand or wall-mount options. The setup also included a cord-cover safety feature, which should be checked against the exact product documentation.

Nanit makes the most sense for parents who want remote phone access, analytics and the ability to expand to multiple cameras. A separate 2023 Esquire review praised its day and night image quality and ease of use but noted that sleep data required a subscription after the first year.
Choose Nanit Pro if: you want smart alerts, overhead video and sleep analytics, and accept Wi-Fi, account and possible subscription dependence.

Sleep analytics are convenience information, not a diagnosis. Breathing-related features should not replace medical monitoring or professional advice.
Best non-Wi-Fi monitor: eufy SpaceView
The eufy SpaceView E110 was listed with a 5-inch 720p parent display, a 110-degree viewing angle, 330-degree pan, 110-degree tilt and a 2,900mAh rechargeable battery. The SpaceView Pro comparison describes a dedicated display with no smartphone app or home Wi-Fi requirement. It also provides two-way audio.

- Crystal Clear Audio with DECT 6.0 Technology: No static, no white noise, no interference - DECT 6.0 digital transmission means you only ever hear your baby. Unlike analog monitors that produce constant background hissing, the DM111 is completely silent until your baby makes a sound. The moment they stir, you hear it clearly. Encrypted FHSS channel shared exclusively between baby unit and parent unit - no internet, no cloud, no account. Cannot be hacked
- Portable Design with Long Battery Life: 8-hour rechargeable battery and belt clip keep you connected with both hands free. The parent unit attaches to your belt, waistband, or pocket and moves with you through the house, yard, or garage. The 1,000ft range maintains a strong connection wherever you go. AAA batteries (included) serve as backup when you can't charge
- Visual Sound Indicator with Mute Function: Mute the speaker - 5 LED lights still show exactly how loud the nursery is. Check the sound indicator from across the bed without picking up the unit or waking your partner. One light means quiet, five means crying. When your attention is needed, the parent unit emits an alert tone - low battery, out of range, or sound activity above your set threshold
- Simple Setup and Operation: Plug in, power on, connected in 60 seconds - no app, no WiFi, no account, no pairing screens. Connect both units to power and they link automatically. That's the entire setup. Volume is controlled with a single up/down button on the parent unit
- Versatile Use for Multiple Situations: Reliable audio monitoring without complexity for new parents, travel, and grandparents. The DM111 is the monitor you hand to a grandparent without explaining anything, pack in a bag for a trip, or set up as a secondary unit in a second room. Trusted by US families for over 30 years
This design is a strong fit for privacy-conscious households, unreliable broadband connections and grandparents or babysitters who should not need an account. It provides local viewing rather than monitoring from outside the home.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →“Private” does not mean risk-free. Local wireless systems still have range, interference, battery, power and physical-access limitations. Independent 2023 travel-monitor testing found eufy’s range varied by building and reported occasional glitching in basement conditions. Advertised range should therefore be treated as an idealized figure, not guaranteed indoor coverage.
Choose eufy if: you want a dedicated screen and no cloud account in the nursery.
Skip it if: you need remote viewing, cloud recording or alerts while away from home.
Best multipurpose budget camera: Wyze Cam Pan v2
The Wyze Cam Pan v2 is a general-purpose indoor security camera included in the 2023 roundup—not a dedicated baby monitor. Its listed features included 360-degree horizontal coverage, 93-degree vertical coverage, Pan Scan with up to four custom waypoints, Starlight low-light color imaging, local-storage support, smoke and carbon-monoxide alerts and optional AI detection through Cam Plus.

- 30HR BATTERY & SMART VOX MODE – Equipped with a 3500mAh rechargeable battery, get up to 30 hours of audio/video in VOX mode or 10 hours with the screen on. The auto-wake VOX function triggers the screen instantly when it detects crying, saving power while keeping you alert.
- 2-WAY TALK & LULLABIES – Soothe your little one from any room using the two-way audio talk-back system. This smart baby camera also features 8 built-in lullabies to help your infant drift back to sleep, making it an essential nursery security camera.
- NIGHT VISION & TEMPERATURE SENSOR – Rest easy with automatic infrared night vision that captures clear video in total darkness without disturbing baby’s sleep. The integrated room temperature monitor sends instant alerts if the nursery gets too hot or cold.
- HACK-PROOF PRIVACY & FEEDING ALARMS – Protect your family with 100% secure FHSS technology; this no-WiFi baby monitor requires no apps or internet, making it unhackable. Includes a convenient feeding timer alarm to help parents stay on schedule.
Its appeal is flexibility. It can provide broad room coverage, smartphone access outside the home and useful security-camera functions after the baby stage. Local storage may also reduce reliance on cloud recording, depending on the exact setup and service terms.
The compromises matter in a nursery. It may not provide a dedicated parent unit, baby-specific mounting or specialized sleep tools. Phone notifications can be delayed, muted or blocked by operating-system settings. A pan-and-tilt camera can also point away from the crib. Security-camera features do not establish nursery-specific reliability or safety.
Independent travel testing cited results for the Wyze Cam v3, not the Pan v2. Those results should not be treated as a direct test of this model.
Choose Wyze only if: you are comfortable managing a Wi-Fi camera, account security, app permissions and updates, and want a device useful beyond infancy.
Best for wearable sleep-related data: Owlet Dream Duo
The Owlet Dream Duo combines an HD camera with the Dream Sock. The 2023 description highlighted wide-angle viewing, zoom, sleep information and manufacturer-described heart-rate and oxygen-related tracking, alongside nursery-environment information such as humidity, temperature and noise.

- SIMPLE, RELIABLE AUDIO MONITORING WITH DECT TECHNOLOGY: The Motorola AM21 uses secure DECT wireless technology to provide a strong, consistent connection with clear audio. A dependable audio baby monitor with no WiFi required for private, uninterrupted monitoring.
- LONG RANGE COVERAGE UP TO 1000 FT: Move freely around your home while staying connected. This long-range baby monitor lets you hear your baby from another room so you can complete daily tasks with confidence.
- HIGH-SENSITIVITY MICROPHONE WITH CRY DETECTION: The built-in microphone picks up even subtle sounds and alerts you when your baby starts crying, helping you respond quickly when needed.
- PORTABLE PARENT UNIT FOR FLEXIBLE USE: Battery-powered (AAA x2, NOT included) parent unit allows you to monitor your baby from room to room without being tied to an outlet—ideal for active parents.
- EASY-TO-USE CONTROLS WITH VISUAL ALERTS: Adjust volume directly on the parent unit and stay informed with LED indicators for power, sound detection, and out-of-range alerts.
This may appeal to parents who specifically want more data than video and sound. It also introduces more components to charge, fit, clean and interpret. Wearable sensors can produce false or confusing alerts because of fit, movement, blankets, charging or sensor limitations.
Consumer wellness and sleep information is not the same as clinical monitoring. A reading cannot guarantee that a baby is safe, rule out illness or replace a clinician’s advice. Do not use the Dream Duo—or any consumer monitor—as a promise that it prevents sudden infant death or detects every emergency.
Best feature-rich alternative: Miku Pro
The Miku Pro was described in 2023 coverage as offering humidity and light tracking, motion and sound detection, two-way audio, lullabies and multi-camera support. The cited review also described no subscription fee, seven-day video storage and a one-year warranty at the time.

Miku is a candidate for parents who want broad nursery information and who place value on avoiding a recurring plan. The trade-off is cost and usability: the cited reviewer praised its capabilities but found the app difficult to navigate and the product expensive.
Claims about encrypted communications should be understood narrowly. Encryption terminology does not by itself prove a complete independent security audit; check the current manufacturer documentation for what is encrypted, where and under which account controls.

Wi-Fi versus non-Wi-Fi baby monitors
| Consideration | Wi-Fi smart monitor | Non-Wi-Fi dedicated monitor |
|---|---|---|
| Remote viewing | Usually available through an app and internet connection | Generally unavailable outside local range |
| Privacy | Requires careful account, sharing and cloud settings | Avoids most cloud and account exposure |
| Internet outage | May lose remote access, alerts or cloud recording; local behavior varies | Local viewing can continue if camera and parent unit have power and range |
| Ease of use | More features, but also apps, updates and permissions | Usually simpler and faster to operate |
| Alerts | Can depend on phone settings, background operation and cloud services | Often provides a direct local audio or video link |
| Long-term flexibility | Often useful as a general indoor camera later | Usually optimized for the baby-monitor period |
What to compare before buying
- Video: resolution, night vision, field of view, zoom and whether the camera stays pointed at the crib.
- Audio: continuous sound, cry detection, two-way talk, noise filtering and alert delay.
- Connection: Wi-Fi or local radio, indoor range through floors and walls, router-outage behavior and travel requirements.
- Privacy: cloud recording, local storage, two-factor authentication, password controls, camera sharing, deletion options and firmware support.
- Total cost: hardware, mounts, travel accessories, replacement batteries, wearables and subscriptions after any introductory period.
- Nighttime usability: parent-unit battery life, screen brightness, operation without unlocking a phone and whether Do Not Disturb can suppress alerts.
Simpler alternatives
Infant Optics monitors are a reasonable category to consider when you want dedicated local viewing without Wi-Fi. VTech offers straightforward audio and video options, including lower-complexity models. HelloBaby and Babysense also appeared in 2023 comparison coverage, while Google Nest Cam represents another general-purpose smart-camera approach.
These alternatives should be checked for current model names, availability, support, warranty and safety documentation. The same rule applies to older product listings: a 2023 price or retailer link is not evidence of current stock or current subscription terms.

Baby-monitor safety checklist
- Keep camera cords well away from the crib and secure them so a child cannot pull or reach them.
- Use a stable stand or secure wall mount, and reposition the camera as the child grows.
- Keep the camera, parent-unit charger and accessories out of the child’s reach.
- Test the monitor from the actual sleeping location, including through closed doors and overnight.
- Test sound, motion, cry and wearable alerts before relying on them.
- Check phone permissions, background operation, volume and Do Not Disturb settings.
- Use strong, unique account credentials and two-factor authentication where available; review viewer permissions regularly.
- Respond to an alert by checking the baby directly. Do not treat an app reading as medical advice or a substitute for safe sleep.
Which monitor should you buy?
Buy Nanit Pro if premium smart features, overhead video and sleep analytics matter more than avoiding subscriptions and cloud dependence.
Buy eufy SpaceView if you want a dedicated screen, local monitoring and fewer account or internet requirements.
Buy Wyze Cam Pan v2 only if you specifically want a flexible security camera and are prepared to manage its phone-based alerts and security settings.
Consider Owlet Dream Duo if wearable sleep-related information is the central reason for buying, while keeping its non-medical limitations in view.
Choose Miku Pro if environmental and sleep-related features are worth its higher historical price and less straightforward app experience.
For many families, a simpler dedicated monitor remains the best practical choice: fewer dependencies, fewer subscriptions and a direct screen that works while your phone is doing something else.
