Best Amazon Echo Show: Which Smart Display Should You Buy in 2026?

The Echo Show 8 (fourth generation) is the best all-purpose choice, while the Show 5, 10, 11, 15, 21, and Echo Hub suit distinct spaces and priorities.

For most households, buy the 2025 Echo Show 8 (fourth generation). It offers the best balance of screen size, audio, video calls, smart-home control, and easy countertop placement. Choose the Echo Show 5 for a bedside table, the Echo Show 10 (third generation) for a rotating screen and stronger sound, the Echo Show 15 or 21 for a wall-mounted family dashboard, and the Echo Hub if smart-home controls matter more than entertainment.

This guide covers the current U.S. Echo Show lineup and the practical compromises that screen-size comparisons often miss: placement, privacy hardware, camera behavior, smart-home protocols, Fire TV features, and software availability.

Quick comparison

Model Best for Format Standout feature Main drawback
Echo Show 5 Bedside tables, desks, and small counters Compact countertop Smallest footprint Limited screen readability and modest audio
Echo Show 8, fourth generation Most households Countertop Best balance of size and features Not ideal for wall dashboards or room-following calls
Echo Show 10, third generation Video calls, active kitchens, and music Rotating countertop 13MP auto-framing camera and display that follows you Bulky and mechanically more complex
Echo Show 11 Larger countertop viewing Static countertop Bigger screen without wall mounting Reportedly lacks the Show 10’s rotation and physical camera shutter
Echo Show 15 Family calendars, recipes, and wall dashboards Wall-mounted 15.6-inch Full HD display, portrait or landscape mounting, and Fire TV Requires wall space and installation planning
Echo Show 21 The largest Alexa display Wall-mounted Maximum viewing area and Fire TV-style use Oversized and unnecessary for basic Alexa tasks

Best overall: Echo Show 8, fourth generation

The fourth-generation Echo Show 8 is the safest recommendation because it solves the most common smart-display problems without specializing too heavily in one use case. Its screen is large enough for recipes, weather, shopping lists, calendars, short videos, and calls, but the device remains practical on an ordinary kitchen counter, desk, or bedside table.

#1 Best Overall
Amazon Echo Show 5 (newest model), Smart display, Designed for Alexa+, 2x the bass and clearer sound, Charcoal
  • Alexa can show you more - Echo Show 5 includes a 5.5” display so you can see news and weather at a glance, make video calls, view compatible cameras, stream music and shows, and more.
  • Small size, bigger sound – Stream your favorite music, shows, podcasts, and more from providers like Amazon Music, Spotify, and Prime Video—now with deeper bass and clearer vocals. Includes a 5.5" display so you can view shows, song titles, and more at a glance.
  • Keep your home comfortable – Control compatible smart devices like lights and thermostats, even while you're away.
  • See more with the built-in camera – Check in on your family, pets, and more using the built-in camera. Drop in on your home when you're out or view the front door from your Echo Show 5 with compatible video doorbells.
  • See your photos on display – When not in use, set the background to a rotating slideshow of your favorite photos. Invite family and friends to share photos to your Echo Show. Prime members also get unlimited cloud photo storage.

It is also a better shared display than the Show 5. Multiple people can read it more easily, and its audio is more suitable for a kitchen or living area. At the same time, it avoids the Show 10’s rotating mechanism and the installation demands of the wall-mounted models.

That makes the Show 8 the right default for an Alexa user replacing an older Echo Show, a first-time smart-display buyer, or a household that wants a mixture of timers, music, recipes, calls, photos, and smart-home commands.

Do not interpret “best overall” as “best at everything.” The Show 8 is not the best option for a display that follows you, a large family command center, or the largest possible video screen. It is the best compromise for most homes.

Choose by use case

Buy the Echo Show 5 for compact spaces

The Show 5 makes sense when space is the deciding factor. It can handle alarms, timers, weather, basic voice control, music, and occasional visual information from close range.

Its small display is also its defining limitation. Recipes, calendars, video calls, and shared household information are harder to read, while its sound is better suited to personal or background listening than room-filling playback. Avoid it as the main family display or primary video device.

Buy the Echo Show 10 for moving video calls and better built-in sound

The third-generation Echo Show 10 remains the specialist choice for people who actively use video calls or move around a kitchen while interacting with the screen. Its display rotates to follow the user, and Amazon lists a 13-megapixel auto-framing camera among its key features. See Amazon’s device buying guide for the model’s defining hardware.

The rotating screen can keep you in frame during a call or make a recipe easier to follow while you move around. Its larger speaker system also makes it the strongest practical choice in this lineup for music, although it is not a replacement for a dedicated high-end speaker.

Rank #2
Amazon Echo Show 15 (newest model), Full HD 15.6" kitchen hub for home organization, with built-in Fire TV, Designed for Alexa+
  • MEET ECHO SHOW 15 - A stunning 15.6" Full-HD (1080p) smart display that's perfect for your kitchen and ready to show you more. Use customizable widgets to keep your day on track, watch your favorite shows with Fire TV and powerful vibrant sound, and enjoy natural video calling, with 3.3x zoom and wide field of view.
  • FAMILY ORGANIZATION HUB - See your top widgets at a glance, like your family’s calendars and to-do lists, local weather, smart home, and more.
  • ALL YOUR FAVORITES, ALL RIGHT HERE - Built-in Fire TV unlocks endless entertainment, so you can enjoy your favorite content from thousands of apps like Prime Video, Netflix, YouTube, Apple TV, and more (subscription may be required). Fire TV remote included. Plus, now you can quickly add a device to play music with Active Media - start playing a song in the kitchen, then add the living room and bedroom on the fly.
  • SMART HOME CENTRAL - Control smart devices with your voice or a few taps using the smart home dashboard. Easily turn on all your living room lights at once or check live camera feeds to see what's happening around your home.
  • YOUR FAVORITE MEMORIES ON DISPLAY - Brighten your space (and your day) by turning your home screen into a photo slideshow that displays your favorite memories. Auto curate your images and show off your favorite family memories.

The trade-off is substantial counter space. The base and moving screen need clearance, and the mechanism is unnecessary if you mainly set timers, ask questions, or look at a static display. It is also an older design than the current Show 8, so compare the price carefully rather than assuming that its premium features make it the better general-purpose purchase.

Buy the Echo Show 11 when you want a larger static countertop screen

The Echo Show 11 fills the gap between the ordinary countertop models and the wall-mounted Show 15 and 21. It is for buyers who want more readable visual information but cannot or do not want to mount a display.

Think of it as a screen-size purchase, not an automatic upgrade over the Show 8. Current review coverage reports that the Show 11 does not have the Show 10’s rotating display or a physical camera shutter. That makes the Show 8 or Show 10 potentially better choices for privacy-conscious buyers and frequent video callers. TechRadar’s Echo Show 11 review discusses these trade-offs.

Buy the Echo Show 15 for a wall-mounted family dashboard

The Show 15 is the natural choice when the Echo Show is meant to stay visible in a shared area. Its 15.6-inch Full HD display can be mounted in portrait or landscape orientation, and it combines Alexa features with Fire TV functionality.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It suits a kitchen, hallway, or family room where people need to see calendars, shopping and to-do lists, recipes, photos, reminders, and other information from several feet away. It can also provide casual streaming without occupying a separate television stand.

It is a poor fit for a bedside table or a buyer who only wants voice commands. Before buying, plan the wall location, outlet access, cable routing, viewing height, and whether the desired mount and accessories are included or sold separately. “Wall-mounted” does not necessarily mean professional installation or all mounting hardware is included.

Buy the Echo Show 21 for maximum viewing area

The Show 21 is for buyers who specifically want the biggest current Echo Show display for a kitchen, living area, or household command center. Its scale makes information easier to see across a room and gives its Fire TV-oriented features a stronger case.

Rank #3
Amazon Echo Show 11 (newest model), Vibrant Full-HD 11" display with more viewing area and spatial audio, Designed for Alexa+, Graphite
  • New size, more viewing area: The 11“ smart display features a vibrant Full-HD touchscreen with 60% more viewing area versus Echo Show 8 (2025 release), built-in smart home hub, AZ3 Pro chip for powerful performance, and Omnisense technology for highly personalized experiences.
  • Content looks and sounds incredible: Watch shows on Prime Video, Netflix, and more on the vibrant Full-HD 11" screen and enjoy room-filling spatial audio, crisper vocals, wider sound stage, and up to 2x bass versus Echo Show 8 (2023 release). With Alexa+, find the name of that song you love and discover new shows based on your preferences.
  • Your everyday assistant: The 11" display makes it easy to see recipes and calendars at a glance, find meal inspo, and manage your shopping lists. With Alexa+, find recipes based on foods you love, make reservations, order groceries, and more.
  • Simple Smart Home control: Pair and control thousands of devices that work with Alexa without needing a separate smart home hub. Easily view your camera feeds. Manage lights, thermostats, and more using the display or your voice. With Omnisense technology, you can activate routines via temperature, presence, or visual ID detection.
  • Crystal-clear video calls: Video calls feel natural on the vibrant 11" screen with a centered, auto-framing camera, 3.3x zoom, and noise reduction technology. Use live view to check in on your family, pets, and more while you're away.

However, more screen is useful only when the room and viewing distance justify it. The Show 21 demands careful wall planning and can overwhelm a smaller space. It is excessive for timers, weather, music, and ordinary Alexa questions. Choose it because you need a large shared display—not simply because it is the newest or largest model.

Consider Echo Hub for smart-home control only

If your priority is lights, locks, cameras, routines, scenes, and other controls, compare an Echo Show with the Echo Hub. Echo Hub is designed more explicitly as a wall-mounted smart-home control panel and may be a better conceptual match.

It is not a complete Echo Show replacement. Choose an Echo Show instead if you also want substantial video, music, recipes, photos, calls, or Fire TV features.

Echo Show 8 versus Echo Show 10

For countertop buyers, this is the most important comparison.

  • Choose the Show 8 for a static display, easier placement, a better general-purpose balance, and a lower-risk purchase for mixed household use.
  • Choose the Show 10 when the screen physically following you is a core feature, particularly for frequent video calls or an active kitchen workflow.
  • Choose the Show 10 for sound if built-in music playback matters more than compactness, while keeping expectations below those of a dedicated speaker.
  • Choose based on privacy as well as camera resolution. A camera is useful for calls and personalization, but physical shutter availability differs by model.

The moving display is a feature, not an unconditional upgrade. It takes more space, may be distracting, and adds a mechanical component. If you rarely make calls and normally stand in one place, the Show 8 is usually the more sensible buy.

Echo Show 15 versus Echo Show 21

Both are wall-oriented models, so the question is whether the extra display area will be useful in your room.

Choose the Show 15 when you want a visible household organizer, recipe display, photo frame, or casual Fire TV screen without making the largest possible installation. Choose the Show 21 when several people will view the screen from farther away or when maximum dashboard and video size is the main requirement.

Rank #4
Amazon Echo Show 5 (newest model), Smart display, Designed for Alexa+, 2x the bass and clearer sound, Glacier White

Measure before ordering. Check the wall type, mounting position, portrait or landscape preference, outlet location, cable route, and whether cabinets or sunlight will obstruct the screen. A large display placed too high, beside a bright window, or near cooking splashes may be less useful than a smaller countertop model.

Which Echo Show is best for kitchens?

For most counters, choose the Show 8. It is large enough for recipes and visual information without demanding the footprint of the Show 10.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Show 5: timers, alarms, and basic voice commands in a very small space.
  • Show 8: the best general kitchen choice.
  • Show 10: cooks who move around and want the screen to follow them.
  • Show 11: buyers with enough counter depth for a larger static display.
  • Show 15 or 21: kitchens where wall mounting is practical and the screen will serve the whole household.

Steam, grease, splashes, and glare all matter. Avoid placing a display where it is difficult to clean or directly beside a cooktop. The Show 10 also needs clearance for its rotating base and screen.

Which is best for families?

Choose the Show 15 or 21 when shared visibility is the point: calendars, shopping lists, household reminders, recipes, photos, and information viewed from several feet away. The Show 8 is better when the family wants similar capabilities in a portable countertop device.

Do not promise a permanently visible calendar in a particular layout without checking the current software. Small Echo Shows may cycle through cards, widgets, or recommendations rather than keeping one dashboard exactly as configured.

Smart-home compatibility: do not assume every Echo Show is a hub

No, every Echo Show does not have identical smart-home hardware. Compatibility depends on the model, generation, protocol, and sometimes a separate manufacturer bridge.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Matter controller: allows Alexa to commission and control compatible Matter devices.
  • Zigbee hub: connects compatible Zigbee products directly when the Echo includes the relevant built-in hub.
  • Thread border router: must be verified for the exact model; Matter support alone does not prove Thread support.
  • Wi-Fi or cloud skill: may work through a manufacturer service even when the Echo does not contain the accessory’s radio.

Amazon’s Matter support documentation lists compatible Echo devices, including the Echo Show 10 and newer Echo Show 8 releases. Amazon separately explains devices with a built-in Zigbee hub in its Zigbee smart-home help. Verify the exact model before buying accessories.

Identify whether your devices use Wi-Fi, Matter over Wi-Fi, Matter over Thread, Zigbee, a proprietary cloud skill, or a manufacturer’s bridge. “Matter-compatible” is not the same as “pairs directly with every Echo Show.”

Alexa+, widgets, Fire TV, and changing software

Alexa+ and visual features can make a larger Echo Show more useful, but availability may depend on country, account, device, subscription or Prime eligibility, and rollout timing. Amazon has described visual shopping experiences for the Echo Show 15 and 21 while noting that features were coming to other devices. Read the current Alexa+ device announcement and visual shopping announcement for official availability context.

Do not buy solely for a promised AI feature unless Amazon confirms it for your country and exact model. Features can arrive unevenly.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Show 15 and 21 have the clearest case for video because of their size and Fire TV integration. They are not automatically equivalent to a conventional smart TV: app selection, viewing angle, audio, placement, and remote-control behavior differ. Browser-based YouTube access and streaming behavior can also change by region and software update.

Amazon’s visual surfaces may include recommendations or promotional content. Do not assume an Echo Show is ad-free unless a current Amazon policy explicitly guarantees that setting or plan.

Privacy and placement checks

Before buying, decide whether the device belongs in a bedroom, shared room, kitchen, or hallway. A camera is useful for calls and visual personalization, but many households will prefer hardware that provides a physical shutter or a device with no camera for more private locations.

  • Use the physical microphone and camera controls provided on the device.
  • Check whether the specific model includes a physical camera shutter; current coverage reports that the Show 11 does not.
  • Enable Voice ID or Visual ID only if the household is comfortable with the additional profile information used for personalization.
  • Review and delete Alexa voice and smart-home activity through Alexa privacy controls.
  • Keep the display away from bathrooms and consider whether a bedroom camera is appropriate.

Amazon documents Alexa privacy and smart-home history controls in its Alexa privacy FAQ. Menu names and paths can change, so use the current Alexa app and device software rather than relying on an old screenshot.

What to check before you buy

  1. Confirm the generation. “Echo Show 8” and “Echo Show 10” can refer to multiple generations.
  2. Measure the placement. Check counter depth, rotation clearance, wall dimensions, viewing distance, glare, and outlet access.
  3. Check privacy hardware. Confirm the camera, shutter, and microphone controls on the exact listing.
  4. Verify smart-home protocols. Match your accessories to Matter, Zigbee, Thread, Wi-Fi, or a required bridge.
  5. Check the live U.S. price. Echo Show prices fluctuate around Prime Day, Black Friday, holidays, and device launches. Do not rely on an old review’s launch price.
  6. Check subscriptions. Streaming services are separate, and Alexa+ eligibility and pricing can change.
  7. Check included accessories. For the Show 15 and 21, confirm whether the mount, stand, and cable-management parts you need are included.
  8. Confirm the return policy. This is especially important for large wall-mounted devices and for testing whether the display works in your room.

Final recommendations

  • Best overall: Echo Show 8, fourth generation.
  • Best compact or bedside model: Echo Show 5.
  • Best for moving video calls and built-in sound: Echo Show 10, third generation.
  • Best larger countertop model: Echo Show 11, if its privacy and static-screen compromises suit you.
  • Best family wall dashboard: Echo Show 15.
  • Best largest-screen option: Echo Show 21.
  • Best dedicated smart-home control alternative: Echo Hub.

Start with the Show 8 unless your placement or workflow clearly points elsewhere. The right Echo Show is determined less by the biggest screen or newest model than by where it will live, who will use it, whether the camera and privacy controls are acceptable, and which smart-home protocols your devices require.
