For a six-person hot tub, compare the seating layout, dimensions, filled weight, electrical requirements and local installation support—not just the advertised headcount. Caldera’s Geneva, Tahitian and Makena and Jacuzzi’s J-365 are manufacturer-listed options for six or more people, but the published specifications do not establish which one will feel most comfortable. Use them as a shortlist, then check the exact model-year details and site requirements with a local dealer and qualified installer.

What to compare in a six-person hot tub

“Six-person” is a manufacturer-stated capacity, not an independent comfort rating. Six adults may have different expectations for personal space, legroom and seat depth. Review the seat plan and, if possible, try the layout in person before choosing. A lounger and an open-seat design serve different preferences; the specifications below do not show which layout feels better to a particular household.

Dimensions and water volume help you assess fit and operating needs, while weight matters for the supporting surface and delivery plan. Always distinguish dry weight from filled weight. Electrical supply, sanitation and filtration, insulation, cover, warranty and nearby service also belong in the comparison; the figures below do not settle those questions.

Four six-person models and their published specifications

These are manufacturer-published figures, not results from comparative comfort or performance tests. Specifications can vary by model year and configuration, so confirm the exact version offered in your area.

How the published figures affect a real installation

Measure the tub and the route to its final position

Start with the tub’s external dimensions, then measure gates, turns, stairs and any other delivery obstacles. The Geneva and Makena are each 7 ft 5 in square; the Tahitian is 7 ft square. The cited J-365 page does not state dimensions, so request the exact model drawing before planning a space or delivery. Allow for whatever access and service clearances the manufacturer specifies for the offered configuration.

  • Durable Construction: MaxHold fabric internal beams provide superior air pressure retention, stability and lightweight portability. Plan for filled weight, not just the empty shell

A hot tub’s load changes substantially when filled and occupied. Geneva’s listed filled weight is 5,470 lb; Makena’s is 5,365 lb. Caldera says the Makena figure includes occupants assumed to average 175 lb each. The Tahitian and J-365 sources list dry weight but do not state filled weight, so do not estimate or compare their filled loads from those dry figures. Ask the dealer for the applicable filled-load data and have a qualified local professional assess the supporting surface.

Confirm electrical service and configuration

The J-365 page specifies North American 240 VAC options at 40A, 50A or 60A. That is not a universal installation instruction: confirm the selected configuration, circuit requirements and local code with the dealer and a qualified electrician. Do not infer the electrical requirements for the Caldera models from the specifications listed here.

Choose by fit and priorities, not a supposed universal winner

  • Consider Geneva if its stated six-adult capacity, 55 jets and listed filled weight fit your space and installation plan.
  • Consider Tahitian if its 7 ft square footprint and 375-gallon volume suit your site; obtain the missing filled-weight and configuration details before committing.
  • Consider Makena if its 7 ft 5 in square footprint, 395-gallon volume and published filled-weight figure work for your site.
  • Consider J-365 if its 6–7-person published capacity and open-seating design appeal to you; verify dimensions, electrical configuration and filled weight for the exact model.

These are comparison prompts, not rankings. Jet count alone does not establish comfort or performance, and the cited specifications do not provide a common basis for comparing warranty coverage, care systems, insulation or total cost.

Check the site, service and total cost before ordering

Request a written, itemized quote that identifies the precise model year and configuration. Confirm delivered price, availability, delivery route, installation scope, electrical work, required base, warranty terms and who provides service in your area. Ask which sanitation and filtration system is included, what routine care it requires, and what cover or insulation features are part of the quoted model. None of those local or changing details is established by the product specifications above.

Water care and hot-tub safety

Hot-tub water can spread germs that cause respiratory, skin or gastrointestinal illness. The CDC advises keeping water at or below 104°F (40°C), checking disinfectant and pH with test strips, and following its user guidance of at least 3 ppm chlorine or 4–8 ppm bromine and pH 7.0–7.8. Use the appropriate test product and follow its directions. CDC: What You Can Do to Stay Healthy in Hot Tubs.

Temperature alone does not control Legionella. The CDC identifies sediment and biofilm, temperature, water age and disinfectant residual as factors affecting Legionella growth; its hot-tub control toolkit gives a pH range of 7.2–7.8 in that control context. Do not confuse that toolkit-specific range with the CDC user page’s pH guidance. Follow the applicable operating instructions, maintain disinfectant, and clean surfaces: the toolkit recommends vigorous scrubbing when draining. CDC: Controlling Legionella in Hot Tubs.

Legionella can spread when a person inhales contaminated mist. The CDC identifies older adults, current or former smokers, people with chronic lung disease and people with weakened immune systems as groups at higher risk. Read its guidance on protecting yourself from Legionella in hot tubs.

A 2023 CPSC recall notice covered certain Sundance and Jacuzzi brand tubs because inaccurate temperature readings could create a thermal-burn hazard. The notice reported 185 reports of inaccurate readings and no injuries. That dated notice does not mean every current model is affected. Check the model and serial number against current recall information; for a tub confirmed to be affected, follow the recall instructions and verify water temperature with an accurate external thermometer before entering.
