Belkin ended Wemo app and cloud support for select Wemo products on January 31, 2026. Affected devices can no longer use the Wemo app, receive Wemo app updates, or rely on Wemo cloud features such as remote access, Amazon Alexa integration, and Google Assistant integration. The shutdown does not mean every Wemo device instantly became unusable: some products that were already configured with Apple HomeKit may continue working locally in the Apple Home app, while certain Thread-based models are listed by Belkin as unaffected.
If you own a Wemo device, identify its exact model or SKU before resetting it, removing it from HomeKit, buying a replacement, or throwing it away. Belkin says eligible products still under warranty may qualify for a refund with proof of purchase.

What changed on January 31, 2026?
Belkin’s official end-of-support notice confirms that Wemo cloud services and app support ended on January 31, 2026. The Wemo app no longer functions for affected products and will not receive further updates. Belkin also ended its support and troubleshooting commitment for Wi-Fi-based Wemo products on that date. Belkin’s Wemo end-of-support notice contains the official product tables and refund instructions.

For an affected cloud-dependent device, the following features no longer work through Wemo:
#1 Best Overall
- Voice Control with Alexa & Google: Hands-free control for your whole home — just say "Alexa, turn on bedroom lights" when your hands are full, or "Hey Google, turn off all lights" before bed. Perfect for dark rooms, cooking, or when you're cozy under the covers.
- Easy DIY Installation: No electrician needed — the GHome app walks you through step-by-step wiring and setup in minutes. Fits standard wall boxes, works with existing light fixtures (no need to replace bulbs). Neutral wire required, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only.
- Remote Control & Schedules: Check if you left the lights on from anywhere, and turn them off with one tap. Set schedules to match your routine — porch light on at sunset, bedroom light off at 11pm, or Away Mode to simulate presence while traveling.
- Whole Home Smart Lighting: Replace every switch in your house — bedroom, living room, kitchen, hallway, garage. Group controls let you turn off the entire house with one command. — Smarter than smart bulbs.
- Safe & Reliable: UL & FCC certified for safety, built with flame-retardant material and overload protection. Backed by GHome's responsive support team. Works with all standard single-pole setups — Input and output: 120V/60Hz, 15A max, 1800W rating. The cover measures 4.73"*2.76"*0.35"(120*70*8.7mm), the internal dimensions without cover are 4.1"H*1.75"W*1.34"D (104*44*34mm).
- Adding or setting up the product in the Wemo app
- Changing settings through the Wemo app
- Remote control from outside the home
- Wemo cloud automations and related account functions
- Amazon Alexa integration that depends on Wemo’s cloud service
- Google Assistant integration that depends on Wemo’s cloud service
- Belkin’s normal app, Wi-Fi, and troubleshooting support
This is a service shutdown, not simply an app update problem. Reinstalling the app, changing your router, or using general computer and network troubleshooting software cannot restore a cloud service that Belkin has discontinued.
Not every Wemo device has the same outcome
The practical result depends on the product model, how it was configured, and whether it can operate through Apple HomeKit or Thread. The product name alone is not reliable because several Wemo generations share names such as “Mini Smart Plug.” Check the label on the device, its packaging, purchase record, or the model information in your existing smart-home setup. Use the exact SKU when comparing it with Belkin’s list.
Products that may continue through an existing Apple HomeKit setup
Belkin lists the following products as continuing through Apple HomeKit when they were configured before the January 31 cutoff:
- Wemo Smart Light Switch 3-Way, models WLS0403 and WLS0503
- Wemo Wi-Fi Smart Light Switch with Dimmer, WDS060
- Wemo Smart Light Switch, WLS040
- Wemo HomeKit Bridge, F7C064
- Wemo Dimmer Light Switch, F7C059
- Wemo Mini Plugin Switch, F7C063
- Wemo Outdoor Plug, WSP090
- Wemo Mini Smart Plug, WSP080
- Wemo Stage Smart Scene Controller, WSC010
- Wemo Smart Plug with Thread, WSP100
- Wemo Smart Video Doorbell Camera, WDC010
“May continue” is important. These devices may keep working locally in Apple’s Home app if they were already configured with HomeKit before the shutdown. That does not mean Belkin’s Wemo app or cloud features remain available.
Belkin also identifies four Thread-based products as not affected by the cloud shutdown: WLS0503, WSC010, WSP100, and WDC010. Do not treat “HomeKit-compatible” and “Thread-based” as interchangeable descriptions. The two groups overlap, but a HomeKit-compatible Wemo product is not necessarily a Thread product.
Do not reset a surviving HomeKit device casually
Belkin says that after the cutoff, users cannot set up or reconfigure a Wemo device through the Wemo app or HomeKit. As a result, a device that still works in Apple Home may be difficult or impossible to add again if it is removed, factory-reset, or disconnected during troubleshooting.

Before resetting or deleting a working HomeKit Wemo device:
Recommended Free Tools
- Record the exact model and SKU.
- Confirm whether it is currently visible and controllable in the Apple Home app.
- Check Belkin’s current support notice for that model.
- Make sure you have a supported re-setup path rather than assuming HomeKit will discover it again.
- Only then decide whether a reset or removal is worth the risk.
If the device still performs an important function, such as controlling exterior lighting, a pump, or a security-related accessory, consider installing and testing a replacement before dismantling the working setup.
Which Wemo products are affected?
Belkin’s affected list includes older Wemo Link, Humidifier, Crock-Pot, Heater, Air Purifier, Coffee Maker, Baby Monitor, LED Lighting Bundle, Motion Sensor, Maker Module, Zigbee Bulb, Insight, Switch, Light Switch, and Mini Smart Plug products. It also includes WLS0403 and other models whose cloud or setup support ended at the cutoff.
Because names and generations overlap, do not conclude that a product is supported or unsupported from a description such as “Wemo Mini” or “Wemo Light Switch.” Compare the SKU, description, last-sold date, warranty information, and HomeKit-compatibility information in Belkin’s official table.
What still works on an affected device?
A Wemo shutdown affects the smart-control layer, not necessarily every physical component. For example, an affected plug may still pass power when its physical button is pressed, and a switch may still operate a connected light manually. A connected appliance may continue to work when operated at the appliance itself.
That does not make the product a fully functioning smart device. App control, remote access, cloud automations, and the affected voice-assistant integrations are no longer available through Belkin’s service. The exact manual behavior depends on the model and its electrical design, so test it safely rather than assuming that every unit behaves the same way.

Can you get a refund?
Possibly. Belkin says a Wemo product that was still under warranty on or after January 31, 2026 may qualify for a refund. Proof of purchase is required, and eligibility depends on the product’s warranty period and documentation. A refund is therefore not automatic.
To prepare a claim, gather:
- The exact product model or SKU
- Your receipt, order confirmation, or other proof of purchase
- The purchase date and seller information
- Any serial number requested by the form
- Photos or other information that identify the product, if requested
Use the Wemo end-of-support refund form linked by Belkin. Belkin previously stated that refund requests would not be processed before the shutdown date; now that the cutoff has passed, owners should check the current form and its eligibility instructions rather than relying on older retailer or forum advice.
Should you replace a Wemo plug or switch?
For a device that has lost smart control, the most durable replacement strategy is to choose a product based on an established, multi-platform standard rather than another accessory that depends entirely on one manufacturer’s proprietary cloud. Matter, Apple HomeKit, and Thread can reduce dependence on a single vendor, but none eliminates the need to check compatibility.
The Connectivity Standards Alliance describes Matter as an interoperable smart-home connectivity standard. Its Matter FAQ explains an important limitation: Matter uses local connectivity, but remote control generally still requires an internet-connected controller, such as a compatible smart speaker or home hub.
Replacing a Wemo plug
A plug-in replacement is usually the least disruptive option. When comparing a Matter smart plug, check:
- Whether it supports the ecosystem you use, such as Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa
- Whether a Matter controller or hub is required for initial setup
- Whether the product uses Wi-Fi, Thread, or both
- Its electrical rating and suitability for the appliance you intend to control
- Whether local control continues if the manufacturer’s account or cloud service is unavailable
- Whether the plug includes energy monitoring, outdoor weather protection, scheduling, or other features you actually need
Matter does not guarantee that every feature appears identically in every smart-home platform. Confirm the device’s supported ecosystems and controller requirements before purchasing. Do not buy old Wemo inventory simply because it is discounted: Belkin’s shutdown means the Wemo app and cloud are not a dependable long-term basis for a new installation.

Replacing a hardwired Wemo switch or dimmer
A wall switch requires more than a matching brand name. A Matter smart light switch must match the electrical and physical conditions of the installation, including:

- Single-pole, three-way, or another switching arrangement
- Load type, wattage, and dimming requirements
- Box depth and the available space for the device
- Indoor or damp-location requirements
- Supported smart-home ecosystem and hub requirements
Turn off the correct circuit breaker and verify that the circuit is de-energized before any work. If you are not qualified to identify household wiring, do not install a hardwired switch yourself. A licensed electrician can determine whether the existing wiring, box, load, and replacement device are compatible. A Matter label does not make a switch universally compatible with every home.
When a Thread border router or hub is needed
Thread-based products may need a Thread border router, a compatible smart-home hub, or both. Apple says Thread accessories may require a Thread-enabled home hub such as an Apple TV 4K, HomePod mini, or second-generation HomePod, depending on the accessory and setup. See Apple’s Home app and Matter accessory guidance before buying a Thread replacement.
A Thread border router or compatible smart-home hub is an optional infrastructure purchase, not a universal requirement. Verify the exact requirements of the replacement device and your chosen ecosystem first. Some homes already have a compatible controller built into an existing speaker or hub; others may need additional hardware.

- Identify the SKU. Photograph the label and compare it with Belkin’s official table.
- Check current operation. Test both manual control and smart control without factory-resetting the unit.
- Look for an existing HomeKit setup. If it still works in Apple Home, avoid removing or resetting it until you have a replacement or confirmed re-setup plan.
- Check warranty status. Gather proof of purchase and submit a refund request if the product may qualify.
- Choose the replacement type. Use a smart plug for a plug-in device; use an electrically compatible switch for a hardwired installation.
- Verify the ecosystem. Check Matter certification or stated HomeKit, Alexa, and Google Home support, along with controller, Wi-Fi, and Thread requirements.
- Install safely. Do not improvise household wiring or exceed the replacement device’s electrical rating.
- Recycle responsibly. Use an authorized electronics-recycling or e-waste center if the old device is no longer useful.
How to dispose of an unusable Wemo device
For a product that cannot continue through HomeKit and is out of warranty, Belkin recommends disposal through an authorized e-waste recycling center. Smart plugs, switches, cameras, sensors, and connected appliances contain electronics that should not automatically go into ordinary household trash. Local rules vary, particularly for products containing batteries.

The larger lesson for home projects
Wemo’s shutdown is a reminder to assess service dependency when specifying connected products for a home, rental, renovation, or construction project. A device can be physically reliable yet become difficult to manage when its app, account system, or cloud backend disappears.
For future installations, document the exact model, wiring arrangement, hub requirements, firmware or setup process, and manual fallback. Prefer products with clear local-control behavior and standards-based compatibility where that fits the project. Matter can improve interoperability, but it is not a promise of permanent support, universal feature parity, or remote operation without an internet-connected controller.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does every Wemo device stop working after January 31, 2026?
No. Belkin ended Wemo app and cloud support for select products, but some devices already configured with Apple HomeKit may continue operating locally in Apple’s Home app. Belkin also lists WLS0503, WSC010, WSP100, and WDC010 as Thread-based products not affected by the cloud shutdown.
Will Alexa or Google Assistant still control my Wemo device?
Belkin says cloud-dependent Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant integrations no longer work after January 31, 2026. A device’s previous voice-assistant compatibility is not a guarantee that it will continue after the Wemo cloud shutdown.
Can I factory-reset a Wemo device that still works in HomeKit?
Do so only after confirming that you have a supported way to add it again. Belkin says users can no longer set up or reconfigure a Wemo device through the Wemo app or HomeKit after the cutoff, so resetting or removing a surviving device may leave it unusable as a smart accessory.
Can Belkin refund my discontinued Wemo product?
A refund may be available if the product was still under warranty on or after January 31, 2026 and you have proof of purchase. Belkin determines eligibility through its Wemo end-of-support refund process; approval is not guaranteed.
Is Matter completely independent of the internet?
No. Matter is designed for local connectivity, but remote control generally requires an internet-connected controller such as a compatible home hub or smart speaker. Buyers must also check whether their replacement uses Wi-Fi or Thread and whether additional hub hardware is required.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe Bottom Line
Belkin’s Wemo support shutdown is complete, not pending: the cutoff was January 31, 2026. Identify the exact SKU, preserve any working HomeKit setup until you have a re-setup plan, check refund eligibility, and replace failed smart functions with a compatible Matter, HomeKit, or Thread product rather than unsupported Wemo inventory. Dispose of unusable electronics through an authorized e-waste recycler.
