Bedford County’s routine non-emergency dispatch number is 540-586-7827. A Sheriff’s Office notice gave 540-586-7664 as a temporary alternative for callers who received a busy signal during a scheduled phone-system upgrade, but the notice does not identify the year. That alternate number should not be assumed to be active now.

When is a call non-emergency?
The Town of Bedford’s FAQ gives examples of non-emergency police matters: a break-in that is not in progress, property damage, traffic concerns, and dead animals in the roadway. These are examples rather than a complete triage rule; if a situation is an emergency, call 911. Town of Bedford FAQ

The notice’s alternate number was tied to its scheduled upgrade, and the county’s routine contact listings do not establish that it remains a standing backup. If you are calling during a current interruption, check for current instructions from the Sheriff’s Office or county rather than relying on an undated notice.
