FC Bayern is expanding its existing first-team performance centre and renovating the training pitches at Säbener Straße. A separate, much larger five-floor performance-centre proposal—reported to cost up to €150 million—remains on hold, according to media reports citing Sports BILD. The club’s own update confirms the active construction work, but does not confirm the larger project’s reported cost, approval history or reason for its delay.
Two projects, with different status
| Project | Scope | Status established by available sources |
|---|---|---|
| Existing first-team centre and training pitches | Extension of the current centre, plus pitch and site improvements at Säbener Straße | FC Bayern says work began in June 2026 and set out a schedule for construction and staged openings. |
| Separate five-floor performance centre | A larger proposed facility, reportedly costing up to €150 million | Secondary reports say the project is on hold. FC Bayern’s July update does not confirm its cost, approval history or delay rationale. |
The distinction matters: active work at the existing facility does not mean the separate five-floor proposal has gone ahead. The club’s 19 July 2026 update describes the work it says is proceeding at Säbener Straße.

What FC Bayern says is being built now
Expansion of the existing first-team centre
The club says construction started in early June 2026, during the summer break, and would continue through autumn and winter while training continued. The existing first-team performance centre is planned to gain around 1,000 square metres, bringing its total area to around 3,500 square metres. The new structure replaces the existing terrace, runs from the basement through the second floor, and connects the Profihaus with the Service Center.

The design also links rehabilitation and fitness areas and adds strength and endurance zones, space for stretching and diagnostics, and elevator access to the second floor.

FC Bayern scheduled the construction through the end of January and said areas were expected to open in stages beginning with the autumn international break. Those are announced targets, not confirmation that the work or openings have been completed.
Training pitches and site improvements
The club said all three pitches were receiving hybrid turf, new drainage and turf heating. It also reported that a cistern had been installed, training-pitch lighting changed to LED, and an additional grass warm-up area was planned. The club’s stated target was to complete the three pitches by the end of September 2026. Since that date has passed, the July update alone does not establish whether the target was met.
CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen described the intended benefit: “The renovated pitches, the modernised rehab area and the extension of the first-team block will create further training, diagnostics and rehab possibilities – and thus even better preconditions for our sporting success.”
What is reported about the €150 million proposal
Bavarian Football Works, in an article updated 3 October 2026, reports—attributing the account to Sports BILD—that the separate proposal is a five-floor performance centre estimated to cost up to €150 million. The report says the supervisory board approved plans in 2024, the project remains on hold, and the club would currently prefer to invest the money in its squad. It says whether or when the centre will be built remains open.

Bulinews published a similar account on 28 September 2026, also attributing it to Sports BILD. The “up to €150 million” figure is therefore a reported upper estimate, not a final budget confirmed by FC Bayern. The club’s July construction update does not substantiate the reported approval, pause or squad-spending explanation. Read the accounts at Bavarian Football Works and Bulinews.

What the status means
- Construction and pitch work at the existing Säbener Straße facility are confirmed by FC Bayern’s published account.
- The up-to-€150 million estimate and the explanation that squad investment is currently preferred come from secondary reporting attributed to Sports BILD, not the club’s update.
- The larger proposal’s schedule remains unresolved in those reports; the available club statement does not establish when or whether it will proceed.
