On 4 October 2026, Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman ordered officials to accelerate work on Dhaka’s Inner Circular Road after a progress review at the Bangladesh Secretariat. He asked the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry and the Local Government Division to review the project plan together, remove implementation obstacles and set a realistic timeframe. The stated aim is to help ease traffic congestion; the reports do not show that congestion has already fallen.
What the prime minister asked officials to do
The review was focused on faster implementation of the existing Inner Circular Road project. According to BSS, the two ministries were asked to work jointly rather than address project delivery in isolation. The Business Standard also reported the directive and its traffic-relief aim.
- Review the existing project plan jointly.
- Identify and remove obstacles to implementation.
- Coordinate the agencies involved.
- Agree a realistic completion timeframe.
- Show visible progress.
The reports describe instructions to government officials, not an approved revised plan or evidence that construction has accelerated as a result.
Why the project is under review
The stated purpose is to help ease Dhaka’s traffic congestion. The coverage does not quantify expected congestion reduction or establish that the road has delivered any traffic benefit. The directive is therefore a push to address project delivery, not a report of a measured transport outcome.

No new completion date or cost is reported
The October 4 reports say officials were asked to set a realistic timeframe, but they do not provide that timeframe or a fixed completion date. They also do not establish a revised project plan, an updated cost, or current construction status by section. Until officials publish those details, claims about a new deadline, budget or the pace of work would go beyond what has been reported.
Earlier reports on construction sections
A previous Daily Star report described work underway on the Rayerbazar, Hazaribagh and Kamrangirchar sections and referred to a 12-kilometre project. That is dated context from before the October 4, 2026 review—not a current construction update or confirmation of the final route’s total length.
