Bambu Lab’s CyberBrick is not a single boxed toy. It is a modular system that combines 3D-printed bodies and mechanisms with solderless, programmable electronics that can be moved from one project to another. Users can build vehicles, robots, interactive toys and gadgets from designs shared through MakerWorld, then configure them in an app or program them with MicroPython.

The important buying detail is that the CyberBrick hardware kits listed by Bambu Lab’s U.S. store contain electronics only. The printed parts, tools, filament and other project supplies are not included. The store page showed an $80.99 price signal when reviewed, but stock, regional pricing and delivery should be checked before buying. Bambu Lab’s store listing

What is CyberBrick?

CyberBrick is a MakerWorld ecosystem developed by the MakerWorld team at Bambu Lab. Its purpose is to make 3D-printed models interactive by adding reusable wireless controllers and electronic modules.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The system has four connected parts:

  • Programmable hardware: wireless, solderless modules for functions such as movement and control.
  • 3D-printed structures: bodies, frames, mounts, wheels, housings and other project-specific parts.
  • Software: app-based configuration for beginners and MicroPython programming for more advanced users.
  • MakerWorld designs: official reference projects, instructions, CAD files and community-created compatible models.

MakerWorld describes CyberBrick as having open design specifications and reference designs. That does not, by itself, establish that every part of the hardware, firmware or software is open source. The system can be technically open enough to encourage new designs while still depending on proprietary electronics and Bambu Lab’s surrounding ecosystem. CyberBrick on MakerWorld

How the reusable-electronics concept works

Instead of buying a separate electronic control system for every printed toy, a user can move compatible CyberBrick modules between projects. A typical build looks like this:

  1. Choose a compatible model and read its parts and assembly requirements on MakerWorld.
  2. Print the body, chassis, wheels, mounts and other mechanical components.
  3. Assemble the printed structure and add any required screws, motors, servos, batteries or other hardware.
  4. Install the CyberBrick modules without soldering.
  5. Pair and configure the system using the app.
  6. Operate the project with ready-made controls, adjust parameters or write custom MicroPython behavior.
  7. Remove the electronics and transfer them to another compatible build.

The reusable part of the proposition is primarily the electronics. The printed structure is often specific to each design, so a new project may still require new wheels, a different chassis, flexible parts, extra hardware or a different filament.

Bambu Lab presents this modularity as a way to avoid replacing a complete electronic toy for every new design. That could reduce consumption when the electronics are reused repeatedly, but no independent lifecycle analysis or verified e-waste reduction figure was identified. Printing also consumes filament and electricity, while failed prototypes, broken parts, batteries and damaged electronics still create waste. Bambu Lab’s launch announcement

What can you build?

Official CyberBrick material highlights remote-controlled vehicles, robots, forklifts, trucks, tanks and interactive gadgets. The Bambu Lab store also lists projects such as the Duel Bumper Car, CyberBrick Tank and DodgeBot.

Not every project appearing around MakerWorld should be treated as an official Bambu Lab product. Check whether a design is:

  • an official CyberBrick project;
  • a community-created compatible design; or
  • an unofficial remix or experiment that may require different modules, tolerances or extra parts.

That distinction matters when diagnosing a failed build. A community model may be interesting and useful, but its instructions, fit and compatibility may not receive the same support as an official reference project.

Does CyberBrick require a Bambu Lab printer?

The available official information does not establish that a Bambu printer is technically mandatory. A buyer does need access to a compatible 3D printer for the do-it-yourself route, or must arrange for the parts to be printed elsewhere.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A Bambu printer may make the workflow more convenient because CyberBrick designs are distributed through MakerWorld and the two services are closely integrated. However, the compatibility of each project depends on its print volume, tolerances, material requirements, print orientation and instructions. Do not assume that every model will print successfully on every machine.

Before starting a project, check:

  • the largest part’s dimensions against the printer’s build volume;
  • the specified filament, such as rigid or flexible material;
  • whether supports or special print settings are required;
  • the need for screws, shafts, gears, tires, batteries or other non-printed parts; and
  • whether the design is intended for a particular CyberBrick configuration.

The hardware-kit listing explicitly says its kits include electronics only, not 3D-printed parts or tools. Check the current kit contents at Bambu Lab’s U.S. store

What comes in the kits?

Bambu Lab’s U.S. store lists two principal hardware-kit categories:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The store showed $80.99 for the hardware-kit listing when reviewed. That is not the complete cost of a finished collection of working toys. Depending on the design, the buyer may also need a printer, filament, tools, screws, batteries, replacement parts and time for assembly and troubleshooting.

How does the coding work?

CyberBrick is designed to offer a lower-friction entry point than building a robotic vehicle from individual boards, wires and motor drivers.

Beginner configuration

The app provides ready-made configurations and wireless Bluetooth connectivity. Users can adjust parameters and control a project without starting with conventional embedded programming. This may suit a first build or a younger learner working with adult supervision.

Advanced programming

MicroPython gives users a path toward custom event-based behavior, more complex interactions and original project logic. Bambu Lab also positions the platform as a progression from guided configuration to CAD and programming.

That does not make CyberBrick a general-purpose robotics controller. The available material does not verify its exact processor, exposed pins, sensor support, motor limits, firmware replacement options, Arduino-library compatibility or real-time-control capabilities. Buyers who need those features should confirm them for the specific module before committing.

Kickstarter launch and current store status

CyberBrick’s launch began as a crowdfunding initiative rather than a conventional toy-line release:

  • March 6, 2025: Bambu Lab announced the CyberBrick pre-launch.
  • March 15, 2025: the company announced the planned Kickstarter launch.
  • April 15, 2025: Bambu Lab originally announced this as the shipping start date.
  • May 2025: later coverage reported that early kit fulfillment was expected around May.

CyberBrick should not now be described as Kickstarter-only. The product is listed through Bambu Lab’s U.S. store, although availability, inventory and shipping times are date- and region-dependent. The historical launch schedule is not a current delivery promise.

Gadget Voize’s launch coverage provides additional context on the crowdfunding campaign and early fulfillment expectations.

Safety and compatibility warnings

The store gives a specific charging warning: do not use chargers above 5 V or 2 A. It warns that higher-output fast chargers and 9 V or 12 V adapters can cause damage, overheating or fire. This is especially important for projects likely to be handled by children; use an appropriate power source rather than assuming any nearby USB charger is safe.

Other practical precautions include:

  • Keep small components away from children who may swallow them.
  • Supervise projects with exposed gears, wheels, motors, servos or other moving mechanisms.
  • Inspect printed parts for cracks before operating a loaded or fast-moving model.
  • Use the filament and assembly method specified by the project.
  • Confirm the battery type, charging method and whether batteries are included.
  • Do not force modules or gears into parts that do not fit; incorrect placement can cause electrical or mechanical damage.

Common failure points

“Solderless” reduces one barrier, but it does not mean every build is plug-and-play. Expect possible problems with:

  • wireless pairing or device discovery;
  • incorrect module placement or channel binding;
  • firmware or app behavior;
  • weak or unsuitable battery power;
  • gears that bind because of print tolerances;
  • misaligned axles and mounts;
  • warped, undersized or failed prints; and
  • missing parts or incompatible community designs.

A sensible troubleshooting order is to check the model’s required module list, inspect the mechanical assembly without power, verify the approved power source, charge or replace the battery, then repeat pairing according to the project instructions. If the design is community-created, confirm that its parts and firmware assumptions match the hardware you own before treating a failure as a CyberBrick-wide defect.

Who should buy CyberBrick?

CyberBrick is a good fit for:

  • 3D-printing hobbyists who enjoy building and iterating;
  • families exploring robotics, CAD and coding;
  • educators and makers who want a printable project platform;
  • existing MakerWorld users; and
  • buyers who prefer reusable electronics over a separate control board for every build.

Reconsider it if:

  • you want a finished toy that works immediately out of the box;
  • you do not own a printer and do not want to outsource prints;
  • you need high-torque motors, advanced sensors or broad electrical expansion;
  • you expect a completely vendor-neutral open-source platform;
  • you need guaranteed long-term app or firmware support; or
  • the intended user is too young to handle small parts and moving mechanisms safely.

The true cost is more than the hardware-kit price. A printer bought solely for one small project may make the economics unattractive, while a buyer who already prints regularly may view CyberBrick’s electronics as a useful addition to an existing workshop.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Bottom line

CyberBrick’s strongest idea is not that Bambu Lab has released another range of 3D-printed toys. It is that one set of programmable electronics can give many printed designs movement and interaction. That makes it promising for makers, STEM families and educators who value construction, experimentation and reuse.

The trade-off is convenience. Buyers supply the printing, materials, tools, assembly time and troubleshooting. The ecosystem also depends on MakerWorld designs, Bambu Lab software and proprietary hardware. Treat the $80.99 store signal as the cost of a listed electronics kit—not a complete toy collection—and verify the current regional listing before ordering.
