The Bundesliga record is listed at eight seconds; Sportschau’s hand timing and AFP put it at 8.4 seconds. Augsburg and Bayern finished level at 2-2.
How Augsburg scored from kickoff
Bayern kicked off and passed the ball back to goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Under pressure from Fellhauer, Neuer took a heavy touch and tried to lift the ball over him. Fellhauer intercepted, ran toward the unguarded goal and scored. The Bundesliga described the goal as coming in under nine seconds. The league’s account recounts the goal and Fellhauer’s reaction.

Why the record is reported as both eight and 8.4 seconds
The Bundesliga and its data provider, Sportec Solutions, reported the record time as eight seconds. Sportschau says its hand timing measured 8.4 seconds, a figure also reported by AFP. “Eight seconds” is the league’s reported record time, not a claim of an exact 8.000-second measurement. Sportschau’s report explains the distinction; AFP also reports 8.4 seconds.

Who held the Bundesliga record before Fellhauer?
Before Fellhauer, the record was nine seconds, shared by Kevin Volland and Karim Bellarabi. Volland scored for Hoffenheim against Bayern on 22 August 2015; Bellarabi scored for Leverkusen against Dortmund on 23 August 2014. The Bundesliga’s fastest-goals ranking places Fellhauer first ahead of the two former record holders.

How the match ended
Augsburg’s early lead did not decide the match: the official result was 2-2. The goal sequence was Fellhauer (1′), Ismael Saibari (55′), Rodrigo Ribeiro (64′) and Nathaniel Brown (80′). Kane assisted both Bayern goals. The Bundesliga match report records the score and sequence.
What Neuer and Fellhauer said afterward
Neuer called his decision a “silly mistake” in an interview with Sky after the match. He said he should have moved the ball onto his left because two players were closing him down from the right, and that he should have chosen differently. The quotation is translated from Neuer’s German remarks reported by Sportschau.

Fellhauer told Sportschau that Augsburg had discussed Bayern’s kickoff routine before the game and that his job was to pressure the goalkeeper so he could not play a controlled long ball. He said he was overjoyed when the ball went in. The Bundesliga also quoted Fellhauer saying he did not realise the significance until an injury break, when teammate Gregor came over and told him he was “buying the drinks now.” The league’s match coverage carries that recollection.
