Army Corps planning documents describe a new, second boat launch at Prompton Lake, but they do not establish a current construction start date or say whether the existing launch will be affected. The Corps’ April 2024 briefing gave a conditional, now-historical forecast: a contract award was expected that month, with construction to begin after permits were secured. Visitors should check current Corps and Pennsylvania State Park information before travelling.
What is planned at Prompton Lake?
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Philadelphia District’s 2024 congressional briefing says plans and specifications were completed for a new boat launch at Prompton Lake. The Corps’ January 2023 master plan had described a second launch as under development. Neither document establishes the final design, dimensions, capacity or amenities.
These are planning milestones, not confirmation that construction began or that the launch is now open. The sources also do not establish a project cost, construction duration or completion date.

When will construction happen?
The 2024 briefing said a contract award was expected in April 2024 and construction would begin once permitting was secured. That was a forecast, not a confirmed award or start date. The official material available here does not verify whether those milestones occurred or provide a current construction schedule.
Will the existing boat launch, parking or roads be affected?
The available sources do not say whether work will close or restrict the existing launch, parking areas or roads. They do not confirm a closure or detour, so visitors should not assume either that access is unchanged or that the ramp is closed. Check current operational notices with the relevant operator before setting out.

Where to check before visiting
Prompton State Park provides boat-launching and picnicking facilities at Prompton Lake, which is operated by USACE. Pennsylvania DCNR lists the lake’s area as 290 acres; that figure describes the waterbody, not the construction project.
- For Corps-operated facilities: Check the USACE Corps Lakes Pennsylvania operational-status page for current notices about Prompton Lake and the Prompton Boat Ramp. The listing alone does not establish a specific construction closure or current ramp condition.
- For state park operations: Check the Pennsylvania DCNR Prompton State Park page or contact the park office using the details there. General park hours do not guarantee that a particular facility is available during construction.
USACE explains that its recreation-status site covers USACE-owned and operated areas, not state-, local- or vendor-operated parks and facilities on Corps project lands. For those facilities, check with the operator that manages them. See the USACE announcement about the Recreation Operational Status website (May 22, 2025).
