Arena Bruja House returns its client to the lemon orchard where they grew up, shaping a 205 m² home around the relationship between family memory, shelter and landscape. Designed by Un Estudio Propio in Llano de Brujas, Spain, the 2026 project divides daily living and sleeping between two volumes, with the entrance hall occupying the space between them.
A house rooted in an orchard
The architects describe the project as an effort to restore a bond with a family home while acknowledging the client’s later urban experience. The aim was not simply to build beside the orchard, but to make house and landscape feel as though each could extend into the other. The project text calls the orchard a “third landscape,” a setting for roots, shelter and attachment.
“This house is a story about healing the bond with a family home and reclaiming the stabilizing effects that come from having an attachment to a place.” — the architects, via ArchDaily.
How the plan separates day and night
The house is organized as two volumes: one for daytime activity and one for sleeping. Rather than treating the separation as a corridor, the design makes the gap between them the entrance hall—a threshold between the home’s two rhythms and its orchard setting.

Day volume: open to the orchard
The living room and kitchen occupy a double-height space. South-facing windows bring views of the orchard inside, while a porch provides protection at the openings. A beige-red stair-grandstand rises from the living room to the upper level, where an open study overlooks the room below. An adjacent bedroom looks toward both the dining area and the landscape.
The kitchen also links to practical service spaces: a restroom, pantry and garage. This keeps everyday functions close to the main living area without making them the focus of the shared space.

Night volume: a more controlled relationship with outdoors
The sleeping volume uses windows of controlled size and exterior wooden shutters, drawing on the orchard’s architectural language. In the main bedroom, the sloping roof creates a double-height interior alongside exposed concrete slabs.
Materials and construction
The project contrasts a homogeneous, insulated exterior envelope with interiors where raw materials remain visible. Its walls are described as confined masonry with concrete toothed joints. Precast hollow-core concrete planks form the roof; the architects say they were installed in a single morning. An Exterior Insulation and Finish System (EIFS) forms the envelope.

The available project description does not identify manufacturers, product models or technical specifications, so the construction systems can be described but not attributed to a particular supplier or performance rating.
Sustainability strategies—and what is not quantified
The architects identify thermal inertia in the envelope and a coplanar photovoltaic system on the roof as sustainability measures. The photovoltaic installation also informs the interior volume. The project feature does not report panel capacity, energy yield, operational data, an energy rating or quantified energy or carbon savings; no measured performance conclusion can therefore be drawn from those stated strategies.
