There is no single winner among these three home products. The Aqara U400 is the most compelling choice for an Apple-heavy smart home that genuinely benefits from hands-free door access. IKEA’s PS 2026 collection is best treated as a design-led furniture range—not a complete replacement for IKEA’s broader catalog. Govee’s Smart Nugget Ice Maker Pro is attractive for frequent nugget-ice users, but its $499.99 price and maintenance burden make it difficult to recommend without independent testing.
This roundup covers the Aqara Smart Lock U400, the IKEA PS 2026 collection and selected practical and smart-home additions appearing on IKEA’s US “New” pages, plus the GoveeLife Smart Nugget Ice Maker Pro. Prices and availability are US-market snapshots and can change by store, region, stock position or promotion.

Aqara U400 review: premium convenience with real setup requirements
The Aqara U400 is a retrofit smart deadbolt listed at $269.99 in the United States. Its headline feature is UWB-based hands-free unlocking: Aqara says the lock can recognize a compatible phone or watch as the user approaches. It also supports Apple Home Key, fingerprints, passcodes, NFC cards, physical keys, app control and voice control. The result is unusually flexible access, but the premium price is justified only if the hands-free feature matters to you.
Recommended Free Tools
UWB is more specific than simply unlocking a door from an app. In principle, the lock can distinguish a nearby authorized device from one that is merely connected to the home network. In practice, reliability, timing and perceived usefulness depend on the phone or watch, operating system, hub, door geometry and how the user approaches. The available evidence does not establish how consistently the U400 unlocks during real arrivals, whether it triggers too early or too late, or whether users must pause at the door. Those are the questions that matter most in daily use.
#1 Best Overall
- 6-Minute Rapid Ice Production: Crave-worthy nugget ice in just 6 minutes. Thanks to advanced thermal exchange and a high-efficiency compressor, you get quick, quality ice—perfect for impromptu gatherings, sudden cravings, and seamless daily use.
- 60lbs Daily Output Capacity: Reliably produces up to 60lbs of ice per day. The innovative dual-tank system (2.2L/0.59gal + 4.9L/1.3gal) maximizes efficiency, yielding over 15lbs of ice per single water fill to minimize refills. Maintain a high-volume, consistent ice supply for every need.
- 40dB Ultra-Quiet Operation: Experience ice-making as low as 40dB, reducing acoustic energy by over two-thirds. The patented AI NoiseGuard system is an active sentinel: it monitors, identifies, and eliminates disruptive evaporator noises within seconds for ensured quiet.
- Smart Connectivity & Voice Control: Manage ice hands-free with voice commands or remotely via app. Schedule ice for your arrival and receive automatic cleaning reminders. Smart tech ensures you never run out and maintenance is effortlessly on schedule.
- 2 Self-Cleaning Modes for Effortless Maintenance: Your choice for a quick refresh or a thorough clean. Use the 10-minute mode for daily upkeep or the 30-minute deep descale to fight limescale. Just add cleaner and activate—optimal hygiene with minimal effort. Tips for purchasing accessories: On the Amazon website, search for "B0G1MN3B7N" to purchase the descaling agent accessories, and search for "B0G1MTX3TF" to purchase the cleaning agent accessories.
Compatibility checklist before buying
- Confirm the existing lock: Aqara describes the U400 as a retrofit for a single-cylinder deadbolt. It is not automatically compatible with every mortise lock, multi-point lock or unusual deadbolt arrangement.
- Measure the door: Check door thickness, backset, interior clearance and strike-plate alignment. Aqara lists approximate inner-panel dimensions of 178 × 76 × 46.9 mm and outer-panel dimensions of 167 × 76 × 25.5 mm, but check the exact regional model.
- Check the selected package: Aqara lists multiple U400 model variants and package configurations. Do not assume that every region includes identical accessories or has identical hub requirements.
- Check the smart-home controller: Matter-over-Thread requires a Thread-enabled Matter controller for the ecosystem you intend to use.
- Check Apple hardware: Aqara says UWB unlocking requires an iPhone 11 or later, excluding the iPhone SE and iPhone 16e, running iOS 18.5 or later, or an Apple Watch Series 6 or later excluding the Watch SE, running watchOS 11.5 or later.
- Decide which feature you actually need: A keypad, fingerprint reader or physical key may solve your access problem without requiring UWB, Matter or a particular home hub.
Door alignment is especially important. A smart lock motor has to turn the deadbolt under load; a door that already needs lifting, pushing or pulling to latch may produce slow operation, motor strain or failed locking. The included strike plate may also require careful alignment on an older frame. Aqara says modifications may be necessary for doors with different dimensions.
Apple Home, Matter and Aqara Home are not interchangeable
Matter-over-Thread improves the possibility of cross-platform control, but it does not guarantee identical features in Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, Home Assistant or Samsung SmartThings. Basic lock control may transfer through Matter while UWB unlocking, Apple Home Key, firmware updates, detailed access management and Aqara-specific automations remain platform-dependent.
Apple Home is the clearest fit for the U400’s headline feature, provided the household already has a compatible Thread-enabled Apple home hub. Aqara Home may still be necessary for setup, advanced settings, firmware management or features that do not appear in the chosen Matter platform. Buyers should therefore view “works with Matter” as an interoperability claim, not a promise of feature parity.

Entry methods and failure planning
The U400’s strongest practical argument is redundancy. If UWB does not trigger, a user can try Home Key, a fingerprint, passcode, NFC card, physical key or app control. That is more reassuring than relying on one phone-based method. Aqara also lists USB-C emergency power, which can help when the lock’s internal battery is depleted, although it does not replace carrying or storing a physical key for emergencies.
Consider the failure cases before installation:
- A dead phone or watch may eliminate the preferred hands-free method.
- A network or hub outage may affect remote or ecosystem-based control, even though local entry methods can remain available.
- A depleted rechargeable battery requires charging or emergency power.
- A misaligned door can prevent the motor from moving smoothly regardless of wireless connectivity.
- Auto-lock depends on the built-in gyroscope detecting that the door has closed. Test it carefully rather than assuming the feature will suit every frame.
Aqara claims up to six months of battery life, IP65 exterior protection and a recognition rate of up to 98.6 percent. These are manufacturer claims, not independently measured results. Battery life can vary with traffic, temperature, wireless conditions and settings; Aqara lists an operating range of −18°C to 55°C. An exposed door should be evaluated against local weather and installation conditions rather than the rating alone.

- Patented Dynamic Timing Algorithm: Built-in sensors detect water & ambient temperatures, then calculate the optimal ice-making time for each size. Offers precise process control in any condition—ensuring professional-grade ice cube size and shape.
- APP & Voice Control Makes Easy Use: It's only one click to remotely activate, make reservations and view the ice production chart through the APP, making the joy of the party not require even a single second of ice waiting. Even busy kitchen time can also be conveniently turned on/off the ice maker with a single voice command.
- Hassle-Free Self-Cleaning: 10-minute self-cleaning eliminates manual disassembly and washing. Schedule via the app to run during idle time without disrupting use. After a party, activate with just one voice command—ready and clean for next time.
Who should buy the U400?
Buy it if you have an Apple-heavy household, a compatible deadbolt and a Thread-enabled home hub, and you regularly arrive carrying groceries, luggage, tools or a child. The multiple fallback methods also make it a sensible premium retrofit for households that want more than a keypad.
Choose a simpler or different lock if you are renting, cannot replace or modify the deadbolt, lack the required Apple hardware, or want an appliance-like installation with minimal ecosystem management. At $269.99, UWB is the reason to choose this model—not merely the existence of a keypad or app.
IKEA PS 2026 and the “new IKEA lineup”: a collection, not one catalog launch
“The new IKEA lineup” is too broad to describe as one product release. IKEA’s US new-products page is a live catalog containing more than 1,000 items across furniture, storage, lighting, rugs, kitchenware, appliances, beds and other categories. Items may be newly designed, newly available in the US, newly listed or simply surfaced by the catalog filter.
The more useful scope is the IKEA PS 2026 collection plus a small selection of practical and smart-home products appearing in the US catalog. IKEA describes PS 2026 as its tenth PS edition, with more than 40 pieces developed by 12 designers around “playful functionality.” The collection includes objects and furniture intended to rotate, fold, rock, climb or otherwise introduce movement and flexibility into ordinary home goods.
What PS 2026 gets right—and what to question
PS collections are most interesting when an unusual mechanism improves a real constraint: a small room, a shared space, occasional guests or furniture that must change jobs during the day. A folding, movable or convertible piece can be genuinely useful in an apartment or multipurpose room. The design language is also a reason to choose PS over basic IKEA ranges: these products are meant to be noticed, not merely to disappear into a room.

- LEGIT NUGGET ICE: Serve up chewable, crunchable, craveable nugget ice that's ready fast and retains its flavor, unlike traditional hard cubes. Refreshing nugget ice is made from compacted ice flakes and is perfect for iced coffee, cocktails, smoothies, sodas, and more.
- RAPID ICE PRODUCTION, UP TO 36 LBS PER DAY: Enjoy your first batch of ice in 5 minutes or less from this fast ice maker that produces 1.5 pounds of ice per hour or up to 36 pounds per day. The removable 2 lb. ice bin fills up all the way automatically and without any monitoring.
- TOP-FILL CONVENIENCE: The top fill station lets you conveniently add water from the top. While the batch-based ice system filters and recirculates water to continually create new, fresh ice.
- SMALLER FOOTPRINT: At 11.6”W x 15.6” D x 14.56” H, the Opal Mini is 30% smaller than the original Opal Nugget Ice Maker – so you can enjoy soft, chewable nugget ice wherever you want it.
- WI-FI COMPATIBLE: The built-in WiFi lets you schedule ice production, receive maintenance alerts, update software or order Opal accessories using the SmartHQ App or Amazon and Google Voice devices.
The risk is that movement becomes the feature rather than the solution. Before buying, check whether the mechanism adds wobble, noise, awkward cleaning, difficult assembly or poor ergonomics. Ask how often you will use the transformation. A chair bed that is opened twice a year has different value from one used nightly; a movable desk must remain stable when writing or working; a storage item must be accessible without becoming a decorative obstacle.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →As with other flat-pack furniture, inspect the assembly instructions, finished dimensions and wall-fixing requirements before ordering. Stability depends on correct assembly and the floor or wall condition. Limited-edition availability also matters: a damaged or missing part may be harder to replace than a component from a permanent IKEA range, and a matching piece may disappear from stores.
Practical additions worth examining
A representative shortlist on IKEA’s US new-products page includes the IKEA PS 2026 chair bed, listed at $349 in the captured catalog; the LÄNGDHOPP pull-out desk at $119.99; the FÅGELFJÄLLET wardrobe; the GREJIG hallway furniture set; the KJUGE storage pouf; and the IKEA PS 2026 floor uplighter, listed at $49.99. These prices are dated catalog signals rather than guarantees of current stock or price.
The chair bed and pull-out desk illustrate the most promising IKEA direction: furniture that helps one room perform several jobs. But price alone does not establish value. Compare the footprint when open, usable sleeping or working dimensions, storage capacity, assembly time and whether the mechanism will withstand the frequency of use you expect.
IKEA customer ratings can provide an early warning signal, but they are not laboratory testing. At the time captured, the BILRESA remote-control kit was listed at $27.99 with 2.9/5 stars from 31 reviews, while the IKEA PS 2026 chair bed showed 4.3/5 from 14 reviews. Such ratings can reflect delivery, missing parts, assembly and customer service as well as design or durability, and both prices and counts change.

The new smart-home angle
IKEA’s smart-home additions deserve separate evaluation from furniture. Matter compatibility, Thread versus Wi-Fi or legacy Zigbee, hub requirements and regional availability can change the ownership experience. The BILRESA remote-control kit was marked Matter-compatible in the captured US catalog, but that does not mean every new IKEA smart product uses Matter or offers the same Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or Home Assistant features.
Check each SKU individually for its required hub, app, firmware and platform support. Existing IKEA Home Smart users should also consider migration: a new Matter device may coexist with older equipment without making every old automation or accessory behave identically. Low prices are attractive for beginners, but they may come with fewer sensors, controls, diagnostics or automations than a mature specialist system.
Who should buy from the new IKEA range?
Buy selectively if you want unusual design, flexible furniture or affordable smart-home controls and can accept flat-pack assembly and changing stock. PS 2026 is especially well suited to small apartments, rentals where freestanding flexibility matters, and multipurpose rooms.
Skip or choose a permanent IKEA range if you need factory assembly, heirloom-level materials, guaranteed long-term replacement parts or consistent inventory. Treat “New” as a shopping filter, not proof that every listed item launched together in 2026.
Govee Smart Nugget Ice Maker Pro: appealing output, unproven ownership case
Govee lists the Smart Nugget Ice Maker Pro at $499.99 in the US. The company claims first ice in six minutes, up to 60 pounds of production per day and operating noise of 40 dB. It also promotes app-connected controls and a three-year quality guarantee on its smart-kitchen collection.
Best Value
- Built-In Wi-Fi & Voice Control: Pair your ice maker with app. Use voice commands via Alexa and Google Assistant for a variety of smart functions. Monitor device status and schedule fresh ice anytime, anywhere. (Supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only).
- Rapid Ice Making: With GoveeLife Smart Countertop Ice Maker, enjoy nine refreshing bullet ice cubes in just 6 minutes. A 2L water tank allows for up to 26 pounds of ice to be produced every 24 hours, offering ice as and when you need it.
- Efficient Self-Cleaning: Maintain a clean and hygienic ice maker with a simple press of the Clean button. This 10-minute self cleaning process can be app customized for interval cycle times, ensuring healthy, clean, and fresh-tasting ice every time.
- 3 Ice Cube Sizes: Our ice maker features three adjustable bullet ice cube sizes (small, medium, large), and using purified water can minimize ice cube sticking. This product comes with a 1.5 lb portable ice basket, providing versatile ice cube combinations.
- Smart Reminders: Monitor ice status and water levels via the RGB ice basket and app. The app will send you an alert notification when the ice is full or the device is running out of water. The RGB ice basket offers customizable color displays through the app, providing a personalized ice-making experience. (Note: The beeping alerts can be turned off in the app.)
The product’s appeal is not simply making ice. It is making nugget-style ice quickly, in a countertop appliance with smart controls and a larger claimed capacity than many inexpensive machines. That can be worthwhile for a family that uses nugget ice daily or hosts often. It is much harder to justify for occasional use, when bagged ice or a less expensive conventional countertop maker may cost less and demand less attention.
What the headline specifications do—and do not—tell you
“Six minutes” should be read as a first-production claim under particular conditions, not a guarantee that a full basket will appear in six minutes. Water temperature, room temperature, ventilation, basket status and operating mode can affect the result. Likewise, “up to 60 pounds per day” is a maximum production figure, not a prediction of ordinary household output. A machine may spend much of a day waiting for water, storage space or user intervention.
The 40 dB figure is also a manufacturer-listed operating claim. Measurement position and operating mode matter, and compressor cycling may be perceived differently from a steady fan. A kitchen may tolerate the sound easily while an office, open-plan living area or bedroom-adjacent counter may not.
Countertop appliances also need more planning than their product photographs suggest. Measure the appliance footprint, allow the required ventilation and make sure the water reservoir and drain can be reached. Nugget ice makers generally are not refrigerator freezers: stored ice can melt, sending water back into the machine or reservoir rather than keeping ice frozen indefinitely.
Maintenance is the real buying question
A self-cleaning cycle can reduce work, but it does not necessarily eliminate wiping surfaces, draining old water, cleaning the basket or following descaling and sanitizing instructions. Water sitting in the machine for several days is a hygiene and taste concern. Owners must be willing to refill, remove or manage meltwater, drain the appliance and clean it on a regular schedule.
The available evidence confirms Govee’s specifications but does not provide robust independent testing of ice texture, sustained output, energy use, noise, drain design, cleaning effort or long-term reliability. It would be misleading to describe the Pro as definitively quiet, maintenance-free or capable of its maximum output in normal household conditions.
Who should buy the Govee Pro?
Buy if you regularly want nugget ice, value rapid replenishment and are comfortable treating the appliance as a maintained countertop system. The app may be useful for status, scheduling or alerts, but it does not remove the need to interact with the machine physically.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteChoose a cheaper conventional ice maker—or simply buy bagged ice—if you use ice occasionally, have limited counter space, expect refrigerator-style storage or do not want recurring cleaning and draining. At $499.99, the Pro’s value depends primarily on how much you value nugget ice and convenience, not on the maximum daily number alone.
Quick Recap
Which product is best for which home?
- Best for Apple smart-home users: Aqara U400, provided the door, Apple devices and Thread controller are compatible.
- Best for design-focused small-space furnishing: Selected IKEA PS 2026 pieces, especially where folding, convertible or movable furniture solves a genuine space problem.
- Best for frequent nugget-ice users: Govee Smart Nugget Ice Maker Pro, subject to its maintenance burden and the absence of a firm independent performance verdict.
- Best value overall: No universal winner can be declared from the available evidence. Current sale prices, installation constraints and usage frequency will matter more than a simple feature count.
Buying checklist
- Recheck the exact US price, stock status and capture date before purchase.
- For the U400, verify deadbolt type, door dimensions, strike alignment, regional model and required hub.
- Confirm iPhone, Apple Watch, operating-system and Thread-controller compatibility before paying for UWB.
- For IKEA, distinguish PS 2026, practical new products, seasonal items and products merely newly listed in the market.
