April Wilkerson set out to build a 3,000-square-foot workshop on her Texas property and documented the project in YouTube videos and Instagram updates. A 2018 Make: article follows the build through both progress and setbacks, including floodwater that soaked newly installed wall boards and insulation.
What the project involved
Make: described Wilkerson’s effort to create a large workshop from the ground up on her new Texas property. The planned space was 3,000 square feet. The article is a feature about following the project, not a construction guide: it does not provide building plans, a materials list, a budget, a schedule, or step-by-step instructions.
How to follow the build
Wilkerson shared stages of the project through YouTube videos and Instagram posts and Stories, according to the article. Make: points readers toward the rest of the build series. Read Make:’s April 19, 2018 feature and follow its series link.
A major setback along the way
The feature recounts a Texas flood that soaked newly installed wall boards and insulation in one corner of the shop. Make: presents the build as a project with highs, lows, and serious setbacks, and characterizes Wilkerson’s response as positive and persistent. That account reflects the article’s description; it does not establish the project’s eventual outcome.
