Apple’s Smart Home Hub May Be Delayed Again, With a Late-2026 Launch Still Possible

Apple’s rumored smart home hub appears to have been delayed again. The latest reporting puts a possible release between October 2026 and early 2027, but Apple has not announced the product or confirmed a launch date. The reported holdup is the upgraded Siri experience the device is expected to rely on.

What is the latest reported launch window?

Apple has not announced a smart home display, so there is no confirmed release date. The newest reported window is October 2026 to early 2027, with October described as a possible target rather than a commitment. A March 2026 report had pointed to September as an earliest opportunity alongside the expected Siri rollout. 9to5Mac’s March 9 report and later coverage of the October-to-early-2027 window both reflect reported plans, not an Apple announcement.

The timeline has shifted repeatedly: reports first pointed to March 2025, then later 2025, then 2026 and spring 2026. Those missed targets are a reason to treat the newest forecast cautiously, particularly because it extends into early 2027.

Why is the hub reportedly delayed?

The reported delay is primarily about software, not necessarily unfinished hardware. Bloomberg-sourced reporting says Apple wants the display to arrive with a more capable, personalized Siri and Apple Intelligence features. The device is reportedly intended to serve as a voice-led command center, with Siri able to understand requests in context and take actions across Apple apps and smart-home controls. Earlier coverage linked the design to App Intents, Apple’s framework for carrying out actions through apps. MacRumors’ January 2025 report and its July 2025 account of the Siri dependency describe that connection.

A screen alone would not make the product distinctive: Apple Home controls are already available on iPhone, iPad, HomePod, and Apple TV. If Siri cannot reliably interpret and carry out requests, the new device could amount to a dedicated screen for controls users already have. That is why the reported software readiness matters as much as the physical hardware.

Reporting has described the display as finished or close to finished, but that does not establish that mass production has begun or that Apple has approved a retail launch. The product’s release is reportedly being held until its supporting Siri software is ready.

What is the rumored device expected to do?

Reports describe a dedicated household display that would combine Apple Home controls with Siri, widgets, Apple apps, media, video calling and camera access. Household uses could include checking weather, calendars and reminders, controlling lights or other accessories, and viewing compatible home cameras. These are reported intentions, not a confirmed feature list.

Reported design and hardware

  • A square screen of roughly 6 to 7 inches.
  • A tabletop version with a speaker-like base, plus a possible wall-mounted configuration.
  • A possible camera for FaceTime or facial recognition.
  • An A18-class chip, reported as a possible way to support Apple Intelligence features.
  • The name “homeOS” has appeared in reporting, but Apple has not announced an operating system by that name for this product.

None of those specifications has been confirmed by Apple. The device has also been called HomePad, a HomePod with a display, or a command center in coverage; its official name, if it launches, is unknown. Earlier reports have floated a price around $350, but Apple has not confirmed pricing. MacRumors’ early reporting and its 2026 timing report provide examples of the rumored design details.

What Siri and Apple Intelligence features can buyers expect?

At this point, none can be promised for the unannounced hub. Reporting ties its purpose to a redesigned Siri and broader Apple Intelligence capabilities, and links its timing to Apple’s operating-system cycle, including iOS 27 and related updates. That does not establish which functions will be ready at launch, whether all reported AI features will ship, or what model or service architecture Apple will use.

Coverage of a possible Google Gemini agreement concerns Apple’s broader AI strategy; it is not confirmation that the hub will use Gemini. Apple has not specified whether the product would require a subscription or what its final privacy model would be. Existing HomePod privacy claims should not automatically be applied to a different, unannounced AI device.

How it would differ from Apple’s existing home hubs

Apple TV, HomePod, and HomePod mini can already function as Apple home hubs. A compatible hub can support remote access and automations; the rumored display would be an additional, more visible control point rather than Apple’s first home-hub device. Apple’s Matter documentation says some Matter setups require an Apple home hub, and Thread-based Matter accessories require a hub with Thread support. Requirements depend on the accessory and platform software, so check compatibility before buying a particular device.

For a current Apple Home setup, the differences are practical: existing hubs can coordinate supported accessories without a dedicated screen, while the rumored product could put controls, information, and camera views in a shared household location. It is not established that the new device would replace an Apple TV or HomePod, or that it would have the same capabilities and compatibility as those products.

What other Apple smart-home products may arrive?

Bloomberg-sourced reporting has described a broader smart-home push that may also involve refreshed Apple TV and HomePod mini models, and possibly a full-size HomePod update. Those products have reportedly been held back in part to coordinate with new Siri and Apple Intelligence features. That is not confirmation that they will launch together, at one event, or on the same date. Bloomberg Law’s July 2026 coverage outlines the reported plans.

Should you wait, or buy an Apple home hub now?

Wait if a dedicated Apple screen is the point

Waiting makes sense if you specifically want an Apple-made touchscreen for a shared household interface and are comfortable with an uncertain schedule, unconfirmed features, and no announced price. That is different from waiting for basic Apple Home hub functionality, which current products already provide.

Buy now if you need access or automation

If your immediate need is remote access, automations, or a hub for compatible accessories, an existing Apple hub may be enough. Apple’s U.S. store listed HomePod mini at $129, HomePod at $349, and Apple TV 4K Wi‑Fi + Ethernet (128GB) at $249 when checked August 16–18, 2026; prices and availability can change. HomePod mini is the lower-cost option, Apple TV 4K adds streaming, and HomePod is the audio-focused choice. None provides the rumored dedicated screen. See Apple’s U.S. smart-home listings, HomePod mini page, HomePod page, and HomePod overview.

For Matter or Thread accessories, confirm the exact accessory’s requirements, the capabilities of the hub you own, and whether a manufacturer bridge or app is needed. Buying a hub does not guarantee every accessory will work identically through Apple Home.

Look elsewhere if you need a smart display immediately

If a screen is needed now, compare currently available smart displays on their actual camera, calling, routine, and third-party accessory support rather than buying on the assumption that Apple’s device will arrive by a particular month. The Apple display could be a better fit for an Apple-heavy household, but its final compatibility and feature set remain unknown.

What remains unknown

  • Official product name, release date, launch countries, and price.
  • Screen resolution, camera specifications, and whether the tabletop and wall-mounted versions differ in hardware.
  • Whether a wall mount is included or sold separately, and whether installation is required.
  • Thread and Matter capabilities, including the exact accessory and software requirements.
  • Which Siri and Apple Intelligence functions will be available at launch, and whether any require a subscription.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
