Andhra Pradesh plans to build 177 rural homes using 3D concrete printing in Guntur district, according to a 2 October 2026 report. The 18-month PMAY-G pilot is planned for Burripalem and Obulanaidupalem. Its reported design includes printed walls—not entire printed houses—and barrier-free homes for people with disabilities. A launch event was scheduled for 4 October, but its completion and any construction progress have not been confirmed in the available project reporting.
How many 3D-printed houses will Andhra Pradesh build?
The reported plan is for 177 homes over 18 months under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). The New Indian Express reported the project details on 2 October 2026; they describe planned work, not completed construction.

| Planned homes | Number | Reported size | Other detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard units | 100 | 25 square metres each | Household latrine in each home |
| Barrier-free units | 77 | 32 square metres each | Planned for persons with disabilities; household latrine in each home |
These figures and specifications are reported by The New Indian Express. The report says the pilot is intended to develop protocols and structural benchmarks for 3D concrete printing in rural housing.
Where will the 177 houses be built?
The two reported locations are Burripalem and Obulanaidupalem, both in Guntur district. A 30 September report had described an earlier proposal for around 100 houses at Burripalem; the later 2 October account gives the expanded plan of 177 homes across both villages.

These are the newspaper’s reported budget allocations, not independently verified expenditure. The report assigns the Ministry the funding role and CSIR-CBRI responsibility for technological designs, mix formulations and oversight. It does not name the printer supplier, equipment model or detailed concrete mix.

How does 3D concrete printing work in this project?
The project reporting describes 3D printing as a way to make house walls, not as a method for printing every part of a finished home. The Times of India reported that foundations would be completed before digitally designed walls were printed and installed; it also mentioned fly-ash bricks. Foundations, installation and other construction work remain part of the broader build.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →More generally, 3D concrete printing uses digital modeling data to guide material extruded through a nozzle in successive layers. The mix must be formulated to remain workable during printing and then set, harden and meet mechanical requirements. Automation can reduce the need for formwork in some applications, but those general characteristics do not establish how the Andhra Pradesh homes will perform.

The project’s printer is described only as equipment to be procured from a private entity. No supplier or model is identified in the project reporting. The Times of India account describes the printer and construction approach; the newer New Indian Express report describes CSIR-CBRI’s technical role.
Will 3D printing make these homes cheaper or faster?
That has not been demonstrated for this pilot. The Times of India attributed to a Guntur district housing official an estimate of around 45 to 60 days to complete a single-bedroom home, with fewer workers than conventional construction. The same report said the technology was expected to reduce costs. These are projections, not measured results from the 177 homes, and the newer project account does not report actual completion times or final costs.

The Times of India also reported an expectation that interiors could be around five degrees Celsius cooler than outdoor temperatures. That, too, is a projection—not a measured result from these houses.
For a meaningful comparison with conventional construction, the relevant measures are the cost and time to deliver an occupied home, not just wall-printing expense or print time. Buyers and public agencies would also need evidence on accessibility, durability, code compliance, local materials and labor, maintenance, and utility needs. The pilot’s stated aim of developing protocols and structural benchmarks makes those questions particularly relevant.

Are the homes accessible for people with disabilities?
The reported plan includes 77 barrier-free units of 32 square metres for persons with disabilities, alongside household latrines in each planned home. The reporting does not detail specific accessibility features, such as doorway clearances, bathroom layouts or routes through the site, so the term “barrier-free” alone does not establish how each feature will be implemented.
