Yes—but not automatically for every Prime member. Amazon Key in-garage delivery is a real service for eligible Prime customers whose address, order, and garage meet Amazon’s requirements. You also need a supported smart-garage system, such as myQ, Aladdin Connect, or OHD Anywhere. Check the option for your exact address and order at Amazon checkout before buying equipment.
What Amazon Key in-garage delivery does
Instead of leaving an eligible package on the porch, an Amazon driver can place it just inside your connected garage. The service is for garage access only—not entry into your home.

Amazon’s described process uses temporary, event-specific access. The driver does not receive a permanent garage key or shared access code. The driver arrives during the delivery window, requests access through the delivery app, opens the garage, places the package inside, and requests that the door close before leaving. The system is designed to reduce exposure to porch theft and protect packages from rain, snow, heat, and direct sunlight. It is not a guarantee against theft, delivery mistakes, connectivity failures, or property damage.

Who qualifies?
Prime membership is necessary but not sufficient. You generally need all of the following:
- An active Amazon Prime membership.
- An eligible delivery address. Availability can vary by location, even where the service has previously been expanded.
- A compatible smart garage opener or retrofit controller.
- A correctly linked garage-system account and Amazon account.
- An eligible order and delivery method.
- Amazon Key enabled in your account settings.
Older Amazon announcements cite expansion to thousands of U.S. cities, but those historical figures should not be treated as a current ZIP-code guarantee. Check the exact address through Amazon Key or the relevant garage-system availability checker.
Which garage systems work with Amazon Key?

“Made after 1993” is only a broad screening guideline. Chamberlain says its myQ Smart Garage Control works with many major opener brands manufactured after 1993 when they use standard safety sensors. Genie similarly describes Aladdin Connect as compatible with most suitable residential openers made after 1993, subject to exclusions and model-specific requirements.
A retrofit controller is not the same as replacing the opener. If your existing opener is compatible, you may only need the controller. A new smart opener is generally necessary only when the existing equipment is incompatible or already due for replacement.

How to set up in-garage delivery
- Confirm that you have Prime and that your address is eligible.
- Check the exact opener model, garage-door type, safety sensors, and Wi-Fi requirements against the manufacturer’s compatibility guide.
- Install and update the relevant app: myQ, Aladdin Connect, or OHD Anywhere.
- Add the garage door and confirm that remote open and close commands work reliably.
- For myQ, open the app and select Menu → Amazon Key.
- Follow the prompts to hand off to the Amazon app and link the correct accounts.
- Review Amazon Key settings and enable In-Garage Delivery.
- At checkout, look for In-Garage Delivery or Amazon Day with Key Delivery.
For myQ, Chamberlain says the person completing setup must be the primary myQ account holder or an invited co-owner—not merely a household user. Its setup instructions also provide the Amazon app path for disabling the feature later.
What does it cost?
Prime membership
Prime is required. Prime pricing varies by country, plan, and date, so confirm the current price for your account rather than relying on an old figure.
Delivery fees
Amazon’s public explainer currently lists $1.99 per order for standard one- to two-day In-Garage Delivery. It says the additional delivery fee is waived when you use Amazon Day with Key Delivery, which consolidates deliveries onto your selected Amazon Day. Amazon may display different options or charges by account, location, and order, so confirm the fee at checkout.

- myQ Smart Garage Control: Chamberlain’s official page showed $64.99 when observed. See the current product page for today’s price and compatibility.
- Aladdin Connect retrofit kit: Genie’s official store showed $64.25 when observed, but the product was marked sold out. Check the current listing for stock.
- New smart opener: This costs materially more than a retrofit controller and is not required if your existing opener passes the compatibility check.
These hardware prices were observed on August 16, 2026 and may change. Installation, Wi-Fi improvements, replacement batteries, and other garage work can add to the total.

Are cameras required?
No. A compatible smart-garage access system is the core requirement. A camera is optional, but it can let you monitor delivery activity or retain footage.
Amazon and Chamberlain have identified compatible Ring cameras and LiftMaster/myQ camera options. Recording or cloud storage may require a separate Ring Protect or myQ video-storage subscription. A camera therefore adds visibility—not eligibility—and can create a recurring cost. Older references to Amazon Cloud Cam Key Edition should not be treated as a current product recommendation.
Security and privacy trade-offs
What the system does well
- Places packages behind the garage door instead of on the porch.
- Protects many deliveries from weather and direct sunlight.
- Can be useful while you are away, particularly for groceries or expensive packages.
- Provides remote garage control and status information beyond Amazon deliveries.
What it does not eliminate
- A delivery driver is still being granted temporary access to your garage.
- Your garage may contain tools, chemicals, vehicles, valuables, or other packages.
- The service depends on the opener, internet connection, apps, cloud services, and account permissions.
- A camera is not automatically included.
- Compatibility and delivery eligibility can be confusing.
The documented access model uses temporary, verified access rather than a permanent code. Amazon does not enter the interior of your home. You can disable Amazon Key through the Amazon app settings, according to Chamberlain’s support documentation. Even so, remove or secure valuables and do not treat temporary access as a substitute for normal garage security.

Some users have reported surprise garage deliveries, difficulty disabling the setting, or a door allegedly being left open. These are anecdotal reports, not proof that the normal system always behaves that way. They do illustrate why customers should review delivery preferences, enable status notifications, and check the garage after a delivery.

What can be delivered?
Chamberlain’s support material identifies Amazon Prime packages, Amazon Fresh groceries, and Whole Foods Market grocery deliveries among supported delivery types. That does not mean every item, seller, delivery speed, or grocery order qualifies. Select only the in-garage option shown for the specific order.

The option does not appear at checkout
- Check eligibility for the exact delivery address.
- Open the manufacturer’s app and confirm that the garage door shows its current status and responds to remote open/close commands.
- Confirm that the correct Amazon account is linked.
- Review Amazon Key settings and make sure In-Garage Delivery is enabled.
- Try another order, since item or delivery-method eligibility can vary.
- Contact Amazon or the garage-system manufacturer if the account remains stuck.
In some cases, the available garage option may be tied to Amazon Day rather than standard one- to two-day delivery.
The garage is offline
Do not rely on in-garage delivery until remote status and control work normally in the garage app. Use doorstep delivery, an Amazon Locker, or another location while connectivity is being repaired.
The driver cannot access the garage
The package may be left at another delivery location or outside. Check the delivery photo and garage status promptly. If the expected location is unclear, use Amazon’s order-support flow.

The door remains open
Close it remotely if the manufacturer’s app allows it, check any camera or status history, and contact Amazon support. Do not assume that every incident qualifies for a particular compensation remedy without checking the current terms.
A package is damaged or missing
Save delivery photos or video, note the condition of the package and garage, and report the issue through Amazon’s order-support process. Document any property damage, including damage to the door or opener.
Alternatives to Amazon Key
- Amazon Locker or Counter: Better if you do not want to grant garage access or cannot install compatible hardware. The trade-off is traveling to the pickup point, plus possible size and availability limits.
- Doorstep delivery instructions: The simplest option, but it provides less protection from theft and weather.
- Package room, concierge, or staffed reception: Often more practical for apartment residents or shared garages.
- Smart garage control without Amazon Key: Install a compatible controller for remote access and monitoring, but leave third-party delivery access disabled.
Is buying a smart controller worth it?
Enable it if you already have compatible equipment and value secure package placement. The decision is less obvious when you are buying hardware solely for occasional Amazon deliveries.
- Already have compatible hardware: Try the service before spending money.
- Have a compatible Chamberlain or LiftMaster opener: Compare myQ Smart Garage Control and its current price.
- Have a compatible Genie opener: Check the Aladdin Connect model list and current stock before ordering.
- Have Overhead Door equipment: Investigate OHD Anywhere compatibility for the exact model.
- Only want package security: An Amazon Locker or staffed package room may cost less and avoid third-party garage access.
- Receive frequent deliveries or groceries: The convenience and weather protection may justify the hardware, especially if you also want remote garage control.
Renters, people with shared garages, and anyone with weak garage Wi-Fi should confirm installation authority and reliability before purchasing. Hardware, possible delivery fees, optional camera subscriptions, and privacy concerns all belong in the calculation.
