Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery launched in Canada in September 2024, with Amazon announcing availability in more than 1,700 Canadian cities, towns and neighbourhoods. It lets eligible Prime members have packages placed inside a compatible garage instead of left at the door.
That figure does not guarantee eligibility at every Canadian address. You need an eligible delivery address, a compatible myQ-connected garage, an eligible order and an Amazon Prime membership. The published post-promotion price is $1.99 CAD per faster in-garage delivery; Amazon Day with Key Delivery may waive that delivery fee.

What “available in over 1,700 locations” means
Amazon announced the Canadian launch on September 23, 2024, naming Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, Winnipeg, Halifax and Ottawa among the locations covered. Amazon described the rollout as reaching more than 1,700 “cities, towns and neighbourhoods.” See Amazon’s Canadian launch announcement.
As of 2026, that is a description of the original launch—not proof of a newly expanded or universally available service. The deciding test is your address and order: check whether In-Garage Delivery appears in the Amazon app or at checkout.

How Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery works
Amazon Key is an optional delivery method, not a general home-entry service. The intended process is:
- The driver scans the package.
- Amazon verifies the package and the driver’s location.
- The connected garage door opens temporarily.
- The driver places the package inside.
- The driver leaves and closes the door.
- Amazon says the driver cannot reopen the garage without another authorised delivery for that address.
These are Amazon’s described safeguards and workflow, not the result of an independent security audit. The service is designed to provide temporary, delivery-specific access to the garage—not access to the inside of the house.

You generally need all of the following:
- An eligible Canadian delivery address.
- An active Amazon Prime membership.
- A compatible smart garage-door opener or retrofit controller, usually connected through myQ.
- A garage door that can safely open and close through the connected system.
- An order and delivery route for which In-Garage Delivery is offered.
Being in one of the announced cities or towns is not enough. Eligibility can vary by exact address, product, delivery route and account. Prime membership also does not mean every order will offer garage delivery.

Which garage hardware works?
Amazon’s Canadian launch materials specifically identify compatible myQ smart garage-door openers. Look for the myQ logo, Wi-Fi markings or “Powered by myQ” branding on the opener or connected system, but do not assume that every myQ-labelled setup automatically qualifies.
If your existing opener is not smart, the myQ Smart Garage Control may provide a retrofit route for compatible openers. Check the manufacturer’s compatibility tool before purchasing. The controller must work with your particular opener, garage door and Wi-Fi coverage.
Amazon’s broader U.S. explanation also mentions systems such as Aladdin Connect and OHD Anywhere. That does not establish that those products are automatically supported for Canadian Amazon Key deliveries.

- Is the existing opener listed as compatible?
- Is the garage door mechanically sound?
- Does the garage have reliable Wi-Fi?
- Can the door close without striking a vehicle, tool or other obstruction?
- Is the garage individually controlled rather than shared?
- Does your Amazon address match the garage address?
How to set up Amazon Key
- Check compatibility. Use myQ’s eligibility information before buying a retrofit controller or replacement opener.
- Connect the garage to myQ. Install or activate the compatible device, add it in the myQ app and confirm that you can open and close the door through the app.
- Link myQ with Amazon Key. In the Amazon shopping app, look for Amazon Key or delivery settings and follow the account-linking instructions. Menu names can change, so use the current labels shown in your Canadian app.
- Confirm the address. The Amazon delivery address must correspond to the garage connected to myQ. This is especially important when several household members use different Amazon accounts.
- Select In-Garage Delivery at checkout. If the option is not displayed, the address, order, hardware, account or route may not qualify.
- Prepare the garage. Clear the expected drop-off area and the driver’s path. Remove pets, vehicles, liquids, hazardous materials, tools and fragile objects from the area.
- Monitor the delivery. Amazon and myQ notifications should indicate garage activity. After delivery, confirm that the package is inside and the door has closed.

The original free one- or two-day promotion ended on March 31, 2025. Amazon’s published Canadian information states that the faster in-garage option costs $1.99 CAD per order afterward, while the fee is waived when customers select free Amazon Day with Key Delivery. Confirm the amount and available options shown at checkout because delivery offers can change.

The total cost can also include:
- Amazon Prime, listed by Amazon Canada at $99 CAD per year or $9.99 CAD per month before tax on a recent Canadian page.
- A myQ Smart Garage Control retrofit device or a new compatible opener.
- Installation or repair by a qualified professional.
- Replacement costs if the current opener is incompatible or mechanically unsafe.
Buying a new opener solely to avoid a $1.99 delivery charge is unlikely to make financial sense for occasional deliveries. The hardware is more reasonable when you already want connected-garage control or need an opener replacement.
Is it secure?
Amazon describes the system as using package and driver-location verification before the garage opens, followed by temporary access for the delivery. That can reduce visible packages on the porch and protect deliveries from rain, snow and some theft risks.
There is still a real access trade-off: a delivery driver is being allowed to open a door into a semi-private part of your home. The garage may contain vehicles, bicycles, tools, chemicals and other valuables. The system also depends on Amazon, myQ, your internet connection and functioning hardware.

Practical security checklist
- Use a unique password and multifactor authentication where available.
- Keep valuables and hazardous materials out of the delivery area.
- Set a clearly marked drop-off zone near the garage entrance.
- Review Amazon and myQ activity notifications.
- Tell every household member that garage delivery is enabled.
- Pause or disable the feature when the garage is being serviced, the home changes hands or you no longer want delivery access.
Common problems and what to do
The option does not appear at checkout
Possible causes include an ineligible address, an offline or incorrectly linked myQ account, incompatible hardware, an ineligible item or route, an account that is not eligible for Prime delivery, or another order restriction.

- Confirm the Amazon delivery address.
- Check that myQ shows the garage online.
- Test opening and closing the door through myQ.
- Review the Amazon Key account link.
- Try another eligible item or delivery date.
- Contact Amazon support if the option should be available but remains missing.
The garage will not open or close
A smart controller cannot compensate for a broken spring, blocked track, dead opener, power outage, weak Wi-Fi or another mechanical fault. Keep a traditional remote available, keep the garage clear and use doorstep delivery until the system is repaired.
The driver leaves the package outside
Amazon describes inside placement as the intended workflow, but it does not guarantee that every delivery will be completed in the garage. Access verification may fail, the door may be offline, a vehicle may block the path, a driver may identify a safety issue, or the order may not qualify despite an earlier selection.
Check the delivery photograph, order tracking and myQ activity. Contact Amazon through the order’s support options if the delivery appears incomplete.

Check the myQ app and close the door remotely if it is safe to do so. If necessary, ask a trusted person to inspect the garage. Contact Amazon if the delivery appears incomplete. Avoid repeatedly opening and closing the door while a delivery is still in progress.

Several people share the garage
Coordinate Amazon Key settings across household accounts. Tell everyone that the feature is enabled, agree on a drop-off location and pause the service if any resident does not consent to delivery access.

Alternatives
- Doorstep delivery: Avoids hardware and access concerns but leaves the package exposed.
- Amazon Day doorstep delivery: Consolidates deliveries without a smart garage, but does not provide indoor protection.
- Package lockers or pickup locations: Keep deliveries away from the home but require a trip to collect them.
- Other smart-garage systems: Amazon’s U.S. materials mention Aladdin Connect and OHD Anywhere, but Canadian Amazon Key compatibility must be confirmed rather than assumed.
Bottom line
Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery is most compelling for Canadian Prime members who already have a compatible myQ garage, receive frequent deliveries and want better protection from weather or porch theft. The faster option is published at $1.99 CAD per order, while Amazon Day may waive the fee by trading immediacy for consolidation.
The “over 1,700 locations” announcement should not be treated as universal address coverage, and Amazon’s conflicting Quebec information makes an address-level check essential. Confirm compatibility, prepare the garage safely and decide whether temporary garage access is worth the convenience before enabling the service.
