Verdict: The Amazon Fire TV Omni Mini-LED is a convincing upgrade over Amazon’s earlier budget-focused Fire TVs. Its bright HDR picture, local dimming, 4K/120Hz console support, 144Hz PC mode and integrated Fire TV experience make it a strong mid-range choice. It is not an OLED replacement, however: shadow detail is less refined, built-in sound is ordinary, and only two of its four HDMI ports support 4K/120Hz.
What is the Amazon Fire TV Omni Mini-LED?
The Omni Mini-LED is Amazon’s second-generation Fire TV television line and, according to T3’s review, Amazon’s first TV to use Mini-LED backlighting. It sits between inexpensive LED or QLED televisions and premium OLED or flagship Mini-LED models.

The television still uses an LCD panel, but its backlight contains many smaller LEDs divided into independently controlled local-dimming zones. OLED is different: each pixel is self-emissive and can switch off individually. That gives OLED an advantage in black levels and shadow control, even though Mini-LED can be substantially brighter.
How big an upgrade is it over earlier Amazon TVs?
It is a major upgrade where earlier Amazon sets were weakest. The Omni Mini-LED is much brighter, has stronger contrast, produces more vibrant colours and gives HDR content considerably more impact. The difference is especially obvious with sports, colourful animation, bright studio shows and games.

Local dimming also improves black bars around letterboxed films and helps bright highlights stand out against darker surroundings. However, the advantage is less decisive with dark dramas and muted, shadow-heavy films. OLED retains more convincing pixel-level contrast and can reveal subtle dark detail more naturally.
Picture quality
Bright HDR with useful local dimming
On the tested 55-inch sample, T3 measured 1,191 nits on a 10% HDR test patch in Vivid mode and 1,082 nits in Standard mode. Those are review measurements, not guaranteed results for every size or picture mode; brightness varies with test pattern, firmware and measurement method.
Recommended Free Tools
More than 1,000 nits can make practical differences. Sunlight, reflections, explosions and stadium lighting look more energetic, while the Mini-LED backlight helps keep nearby areas relatively dark. The 55-inch sample reportedly used 512 local-dimming zones, although that figure should not be assumed for the 65-, 75- or 85-inch versions.
The TV supports Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+ and HLG. Dolby Vision IQ can adapt compatible Dolby Vision content to room-light conditions, HDR10+ uses dynamic metadata with compatible sources, and HLG is primarily relevant to HDR broadcast and live television.
Where it falls short of OLED
The Omni Mini-LED delivers convincing blacks for a mid-range LCD television, but it does not provide OLED’s pixel-level control. Dark scenes can lose low-level shadow detail, and the picture lacks some of OLED’s cinematic depth and “dynamic bite.” A high peak-brightness measurement also does not prove perfect black transitions, uniformity or freedom from blooming.
The available review does not provide a full calibration report, colour-volume chart, viewing-angle analysis or detailed blooming measurements around subtitles and stars. Buyers with wide seating should therefore avoid assuming that the picture looks identical from every position.

- HI - QLED MINILED: Striking contrast and vivid, lifelike color put every scene in a new light. Whether it's a sunny landscape or a candlelit drama, the picture leaps off the screen. Mini-LED backlighting uses hundreds of precise light zones to enhance contrast across the screen. Paired with Hi-QLED technology, every color comes through with stunning depth and accuracy
- NATIVE 144HZ REFRESH RATE: Fast breaks, high-speed chases, live finales — every frame stays crisp and fluid, so the action is always exactly where you need it to be. Native 144Hz refresh performance keeps movement fast and sharp, reducing blur during gameplay and live sports. The quick response helps you stay in control during competitive gaming while making rapid camera shots in shows and movies easier to follow
- BUILT-IN SUBWOOFER: Immersive deep bass from the built-in subwoofer pulls you into the heart of the moment, from the rumble of an explosion to the thump of your favorite song. Feel like you’re a part of the action
- ANTI-REFLECTION & GLARE-FREE: Bright rooms are no match for this screen. The anti-reflection and glare-free display keeps your view clean and distraction-free, so you stay focused on what matters — the show
- UNIBODY SLIM DESIGN: Edge-to-edge display and a seamless design that disappears into your room — so all you see is the picture
Vivid mode produced the highest measured brightness, but that does not automatically make it the best everyday mode. Standard, Movie or Cinema modes may provide a more restrained presentation. Game mode should be judged separately for responsiveness and colour, rather than by peak brightness alone.
Motion and colour
T3 found motion reasonably well handled, with limited blur or judder in its testing. Colours are punchy and vibrant, particularly with bright content. The result is a good match for daytime viewing and high-impact HDR, although buyers seeking reference-level accuracy should look for independent calibration measurements.
Gaming performance
The Omni Mini-LED is better equipped for gaming than Amazon’s earlier affordable televisions. It supports 4K/120Hz for compatible consoles, a reported 144Hz PC mode and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. T3 measured 13.4ms input lag at 1080p/60 in Game mode, which is useful evidence of responsiveness but should not be treated as the TV’s latency at every resolution and refresh rate.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S owners should find the feature set attractive, while PC gamers with suitable hardware may benefit from the higher refresh-rate mode. The review does not establish the full VRR range, 4K/144Hz compatibility across graphics cards, chroma behaviour at every refresh rate, automatic low-latency switching or Dolby Vision gaming performance.

The main limitation is connectivity: only two of the four HDMI inputs support 4K/120Hz. That is enough for many households, but it can be restrictive if you have a PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and gaming PC. Reserve the high-bandwidth ports carefully, or plan for cable swapping or a suitable HDMI switch. One HDMI port provides eARC for external audio.
Fire TV, Alexa and smart features
The integrated Fire TV platform provides access to services including Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and Apple TV+, subject to country, account, licensing and software-version differences. The microphone-equipped remote enables Alexa voice search, smart-home control and content requests.

Fire TV’s Ambient Experience displays artwork and customisable widgets; the review cites approximately 2,000 pieces of artwork. Amazon-heavy households may also appreciate integration with Prime Video, Echo and other smart-home products. Buyers who dislike Amazon-centred recommendations, advertising or menus may prefer Roku or Google TV.
T3 found access to picture settings more long-winded than ideal and reported that an automatic room-presence feature could leave the set awake for hours. Treat these as review-unit usability observations: menus, settings and behaviour can change with firmware updates. If the television wakes unexpectedly, check presence, ambient and power-related settings.
Design, installation and connectivity
The TV has a slim profile and small bezels. Its two elongated feet sit near the ends of the screen, giving it a clean appearance but creating a practical installation issue: a narrow cabinet may not be wide enough. Measure the furniture before buying, especially for the larger sizes.
There are four HDMI ports, two with 4K/120Hz support, plus one eARC connection. Connect a soundbar or AV receiver to the HDMI port labelled eARC rather than an arbitrary input. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth are also supported. Wi-Fi 6E only helps when paired with a compatible router and suitable network conditions; it cannot overcome a slow broadband connection.
For wall mounting, confirm the exact model’s VESA pattern, screw depth and weight in the regional manual. Those details, along with exact dimensions, power consumption and tuner specifications, are not established by the supplied review.

Built-in sound: usable, not cinematic
The Omni Mini-LED uses two 12W speakers. T3 found dialogue clear and the presentation less thin than some low-cost LED TVs, but ultimately routine. It is adequate for everyday viewing, not a convincing replacement for a home-cinema audio system.
Films, games and Atmos content will benefit from a soundbar or AV receiver. HDMI eARC is the preferred connection for a compatible external system, subject to the source, cable and audio device. Bluetooth headphones are another option for private listening. A soundbar is not essential for casual viewing, but it is the most obvious companion upgrade if you care about impact, bass or immersive audio.
Sizes, regions and price context
T3 reported 55-, 65- and 75-inch models in the UK, and 55-, 65-, 75- and 85-inch models in the US. Australia was reported as unsupported at the time of the review.
The review listed historical figures of £850, £1,150 and £1,599 in the UK, and $740, $1,040, $1,440 and $1,970 in the US. These were review-era prices associated with a page last updated on July 3, 2025. They should not be treated as current September 2026 prices. Choose the Omni Mini-LED if you want a bright, colourful TV with strong HDR, gaming features and convenient Fire TV integration. It is particularly sensible for Amazon households, daytime rooms and buyers upgrading from an older budget LED or Fire TV.
Choose OLED instead if dark-room cinema, shadow detail, viewing-angle consistency and the most refined black levels matter more than peak brightness or value. Consider TCL or Hisense Mini-LED alternatives if their exact model offers a better price, HDMI layout or platform for your needs, and consider Roku or Google TV if you want a less Amazon-centric interface.
Final verdict
The Amazon Fire TV Omni Mini-LED is a genuine step forward for Amazon televisions. Its measured brightness, local dimming, broad HDR support and capable gaming features give it performance far beyond Amazon’s earlier bargain-oriented sets. It is a strong mid-range TV for bright HDR viewing, sports, animation, streaming and gaming.
But it is not a universal OLED killer. Limited shadow detail, ordinary built-in audio, uncertain off-axis performance and only two full-bandwidth HDMI ports are meaningful compromises. Buy it for brightness, value and Fire TV convenience; choose OLED when the priority is the most cinematic picture rather than the most versatile mid-range package.
