The concept unveiled in 2021 proposed indoor and outdoor pools, fitness and sports facilities, and community amenities. The City of Wanneroo’s current timeline expects the centre to be completed in October 2026 and open in November 2026; those dates are forecasts, not confirmation that it has opened.
What the 2021 concept design proposed
In a report published on 9 December 2021, PerthNow described a City of Wanneroo concept for a new aquatic and recreation centre. It included indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a gym, sports courts and fitness facilities, a function room, a crèche and a café. The consultation invited people to comment on design elements and offer other suggestions or ideas.
The City’s current project description lists indoor and outdoor pools, a fully equipped gym, dedicated fitness studios, multipurpose sports courts, a crèche, café, contemporary change rooms and on-site parking. The available descriptions do not provide a complete record of which design elements changed between the consultation concept and the current project.
Consultation is closed
The consultation is not currently open. PerthNow’s December 2021 article said feedback was scheduled to close on 28 January and that outcomes were expected to go to Council in March of the following year. The City’s project timeline, in contrast, records the public comment period as complete in January 2021 and community engagement and concept plan review as complete in January 2022. These dates are presented differently by the two sources, so they should not be treated as a single, reconciled schedule.

Location and latest construction status
The City places the centre at Alkimos Central, north of Romeo Road and next to the future Alkimos METRONET station. In an August 2026 update, the City said water had begun flowing into the eight-lane, 50-metre outdoor pool. The three indoor pools and children’s splash pad were next to be filled, followed by pool testing ahead of the anticipated late-2026 opening.
