The facility is intended to serve the university’s men’s and women’s tennis programs, but no opening or completion date has been announced.
What Alcorn State has announced
The report says the new complex is being designed by Major Design Studio to accommodate Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and other NCAA competition. It is planned as a home venue for both Alcorn State tennis programs, rather than only a training site.
Alcorn Athletics describes the project as an investment in student-athletes and the broader athletics experience. President Dr. Tracy M. Cook said, “These upgrades mirror our commitment to excellence across all parts of our student-athletes’ experience here at Alcorn State,” and, “We are making a commitment to improve all of our athletic facilities to enhance our competitive atmosphere.” Athletics Director E. D’Wayne Robinson said, “The construction of this new tennis facility represents an important investment in our student-athletes and the future of Alcorn State Athletics,” and, “Our men’s and women’s tennis programs deserve a facility that reflects the standard we are working to establish across our athletics department.” The statements describe the university’s aims, not measured results.
What the facility is expected to include
- Multiple competition courts; the announcement does not specify the number.
- Spectator seating.
- ADA-accessible accommodations.
- Alcorn State branding throughout the complex.
The report says the project is intended to improve training and competition conditions as well as the spectator experience. Its competition capacity could also create opportunities to host collegiate tennis events on campus.

When will the tennis facility open?
Alcorn Athletics has not provided an expected completion date in the October 6, 2026 report. It says further project details, including additional amenities, will be released later. The announced September construction start therefore does not establish when the courts will be ready for use.
What public records say about tennis work at Alcorn
A Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration procurement page lists an archived Alcorn State University invitation for bids for tennis lighting. The solicitation was advertised April 10, 2026, but the vendor and award amount fields are blank. It confirms a lighting solicitation, not that a contractor was selected or that the solicitation covers every element of the newly announced facility. In an August 13, 2026 account of the State of the University address, Alcorn also referenced athletics improvements that included tennis courts. That earlier account did not specify the new facility’s cost, completion date, or amenities. Alcorn State University news
